We are getting closer to recital – a day for all of the DDC dancers to show what they have learned this year! Dress rehearsal will be June 13th, and the recital will be June 14th. Please be sure to look in your email inbox for all of the information you need to navigate dress rehearsal and recital. You will find details on the following in the recital email: Schedule your portrait session at www.portrait-palace.com NO LATER than April 23rd. Sign up for the finale dance at the front desk by May 2nd. Please note the rehearsal dates – May 30th, May 31st, June 6th, and June 7th. May 30th and June 7th are MANDATORY rehearsals. Be sure to place your order for your recital t-shirt by May 2nd. Prices range from $18 - $21.50 + tax. We would love to have you volunteer! Volunteers help keep the recital running smoothly; please submit the volunteer sign-up form, indicating where you would like to help out. Recital handbook – please be sure to read this, and keep a copy on hand, as it has all of the information needed for surviving recital. If you would like to place an announcement or advertisement in the Recital program, please turn your form in by May 2nd. Dress rehearsal and recital schedules will be out on April 22nd. This is an exciting opportunity for dads, grandfather’s, brothers (over the age of 12), and husbands of DDC dancers to get their moment in the spotlight, and show off what they’ve got! This Hip Hop dance will be choreographed by Mr. Reggie Faulkner, and is sure to be a crowd favorite! You don’t want to miss out – space is limited. They will show a jazz piece choreographed by Ms. Kirsten Fricke, titled “Birds of Paradise.” This is an exciting opportunity for our talented company dancers, and we hope that you are able to see the show, and support DDCC. Ashley Zimmerman, 1st grader at St. Peters, has made it as a state finalist for the 2015 Miss Ohio Princess Pageant for the National American Miss. Congratulations Ashley! Feeling the heat of the lights, Shining down like the sun, Sweat making my skin shiny. By Abriella Ruby, age 7 Dayton Dance Conservatory March 2015 Page 6 Thank you! Dayton Dance Conservatory would like to thank all of the parents and students for a successful “dress-down” week! We raised $450 for the charity “Stand for the Silent.” Way to go dancers! Stand for the Silent was started by Kirk and Laura Smalley, after their 11-year-old son took his own life after being bullied for over two years. The mission is to prevent similar tragedies by sharing bullying prevention techniques with schools all over the country. To date, this organization has reached 1,037,000 kids in 1,023 schools – and it just keeps growing! And what did you major in? Point Park University, majoring in Jazz Dance. What do you love most about dance? Telling stories, and portraying different characters. If you could travel back in time, what year/time period would you want to go to, and why? The 1920’s… I love the clothes and the hair!!! What’s your favorite show/musical/ballet to watch? Anything by the Nederlands Dans Theater… I am obsessed with that company. Everything they do is brilliant. What’s the most unusual thing you have eaten? Emu (it’s a bird). If you had to describe yourself in one word, what would that word be? Quirky.
