Students with Autism &Developmental Disabilities
WORKSHOPS FOR TEACHERS IN BROOME
Presented by Dolly Bhargava (M.Sp. Ed)
RE-ENGAGING DISENGAGED & UNMOVITATED STUDENTS
8.30AM—10.00AM
Student disengagement is a growing societal concern. Teaching disengaged students is
a challenge for educators. This practical and interactive workshop will help you ‘see
learning through your student’s eyes’ (Hattie, 2009) and make the necessary adaptations
to unlock the student’s potential, with a particular focus on students with special needs.
The importance of establishing a safe and responsive environment that matches the
student’s current need/s will also be discussed.
MANAGING CHALLENGING BEHAVIOUR (K—YR6)
10.30AM—12.00PM
Do you have students who have challenging behaviours? Take this opportunity to build
on your existing skills and knowledge in this area by learning new strategies and
methods to support positive behaviour in the classroom. Practical skills and responses to
instances where difficult behaviour does occur will also be discussed. This interactive
workshop will support participants to understand adolescent development, internalised
and externalised challenging behaviours, and the positive behaviour support framework
to identify proactive, active and reactive strategies. Throughout the workshop,
participants will be invited to share their concerns and explore solutions to the challenges
they are currently facing.
MANAGING CHALLENGING BEHAVIOUR (YR 7—12)
12.30PM—2.00PM
Teachers and support staff in secondary schools consistently rate the management of
emotional and behaviour problems as one of their major concerns and challenges.
This interactive workshop will support participants to understand adolescent
development, internalised and externalised challenging behaviours, and the positive
behaviour support framework to identify proactive, active and reactive strategies.
Throughout the workshop, participants will be invited to share their concerns and
explore solutions to the challenges they are currently facing.
