A new month will finally push winter away as we welcome warmer days. We’re in the final quarter of our school year and we’re keeping our focus on our work as we wait for spring. We’re looking forward to several events and activities coming up, and welcome your family’s participation in our spring music concerts and art shows coming in early May. We’re proud of our Carrie Lee students, for the work they do, and their efforts in being good citizens. We hope you enjoyed the Spring break weekend, and look forward to seeing you at our events. Sincerely, Cheryl Miller, Principal MAP Testing Our spring Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) testing is underway through April 10. Please make sure your child is well rested and has a good breakfast, especially during this testing time. Our results will show your child’s academic growth this year as measured by this assessment. Exciting Opportunity for Your Child and You... Do you find yourself wishing your child had another positive adult role model to spend time with? Helping Services’ youth mentoring program can fulfill this wish. Once you sign up your child, the mentoring team looks through their list of volunteer mentors and matches one of them with your child based on common interests. Each month, your child and their mentor will spend 4-5 hours together doing activities they both enjoy. This new friendship will make your child feel even more supported and valued as a person. Youth Mentoring is comprised of adult mentors who volunteer their services, ensuring there is no cost to you and your family. Youth Mentoring also involves your child in group events and experiences they may not have had exposure to before. These group activities help build friendships and social skills. Give your child the unique opportunity to connect with a strong, dedicated mentor so they can receive that special time with another positive person that you have been wishing for. Contact Kathy Schwartzhoff at (563)387-1720, ext. 108 or visit www.helpingservices.org/mentoring, and explore the options that await you and your family. Striders, Wellness, and Walk to School Day Please encourage your child to rise to our challenge to increase the number of students meeting our goal for walking one mile a day! We hope to increase our participation in this activity! Mark your calendar for May 6th for our last “Walk to School Day.”
