Why Metal Roofing?
I
f green is the new black, then in the
world of roofing, metal is the new wood
shake shingle. People are often surprised
to learn that different types of metal roofing
exist, let alone that they’ve been available
for more than 50 years. True Green Roofing
Solutions, based in Reno, Nevada, specializes
in metal roofing—and while the company
can and do supply other roofing materials,
they can recommend and consult on almost
any project.
“We live by the rule don’t do 2,000 things
10 times; do 10 things 2,000 times,” laughs
True Green owner Audrey Smith. “We
have high efficiencies in place to minimize
additional costs to the consumer, and our
level of customer service is unparalleled.”

stone-coated metal shake, tile and Spanish
tile from manufacturers like Gerard, a
subsidiary company of Metals USA. At 1.5
pounds per square foot, stone-coated metal
roofing is viable for new construction as
well as reroofing old shakes and decaying
composition. Certain systems can actually
be installed directly over old roofs,
effectively adding extra insulation and
eliminating landfill waste. These versatile
metal roofs install quickly and easily over
a 2x2 wood batten system. They also help
reduce energy costs, as the stone-coated
steel systems allow for continuous airflow
across the deck, which means less heated
air in the attic. This results in less stress
on the cooling system and lower energy
consumption. In areas like Truckee and

Lake Tahoe that experience weather
extremes, this adds an average insulating
factor of R11 to a house, creating a more
efficiently cooled or heated home.
True Green’s Gerard systems are the
only stone-coated steel systems proven to
withstand the climate extremes and snow
loads found in the Truckee-Tahoe areas.
They are class A–rated for fire, come with
a lifetime warranty and are authorized for
use by the respective building departments
throughout the area. While Gerard products
are among the most popular metal roofing
products in the northern California/Nevada
market, there is also a great deal of interest
in painted shake, slate and wood-grained
shingles from companies like Future Roof
and Interlock, also available through True
Green Roofing Solutions.
The use of innovative products resulted
in True Green’s recognition in the Idea Book,
published by the Metal Roofing Association,
for the steel slate replacement of graphite
wood shingles for an intricate Lake Tahoe
waterfront home—a significant achievement
given the regulatory nature of any type of
construction, remodel or improvement done
at The Lake.
Tree Green Roofing Solutions is dedicated
to quality and customer service. The
company specializes in all metals, including
exotics like copper, zinc and titanium zinc;
materials are environmentally conscious
and add protection, value, energy efficiency
and lifetime assurances for homeowners.
