Is hosting a workshop by Holly Thomas-‐Mowery “Trauma-‐Informed Interpreting: Domestic and Sexual Violence” For Sign Language Interpreters! This workshop examines domestic violence and sexual violence (DV/SV) within American society and the Deaf community. We will discuss concepts of power & control, trauma, and the ways DV/SV is experienced within the Deaf community. We will focus on the interpreting task in various settings and will discuss language use, vicarious trauma, boundary setting, self care, safety, and partnering with a CDI. This workshop was developed by, and in collaboration with, the Vera Institute of Justice's Center on Victimization and Safety. Trigger warning: the topics discussed will be graphic and “heavy,” so participants will be encouraged to practice self care. ~ THIS IS A WORKSHOP YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS ~ Monday July 13, 2015 8:00AM – 5:00PM TinyLoon Lodge on Pearl Lake in Stearns County, MN This program is offered for .8 professional studies CEUs and assumes little to no knowledge of the topic.
