The most familiar demonstration of this effect is radiation pressure and its usage for propelling of satellites using solar sails. However, spatial shaping of the laser beam intensity and phase and development of spatial light modulators paved the way for much complex manipulation with objects, however only at the microworld level. A brief review of different examples and applications will be demonstrated, for example holographic optical tweezers, measurement of tiny pN forces, optical rotors, delivery of microparticles and nanoparticles over macroscopic distances by an optical conveyor belt, sorting of objects of different properties by light sieves, pulling and pushing of objects by optical “tractor” beams and various forms of self-arrangements of microparticles into so-called optically-bound matter. 20:00 h Gala dinner Poster award Farewell notes Local Directions in Brno The public transportation in Brno is very efficient, with numerous buses, trams and trolleys serving the entire city and surroundings. There are two main crossing points where lines connect: - at the railway station in the south of the city centre, and - at Ceská street (near the Continental hotel) in the north of the city centre, with tram lines going around the ring road. When accessing the vehicle, you need to validate your ticket in one of the stamping machines onboard as soon as possible. The tickets are available from ticket vending machines or tobacco kiosks throughout the city (20 CZK for 15 minutes, no change of lines; 25 CZK for 60 minutes with a change of lines). More detailed information about public transport in Brno is on http://www.dpmb.cz/default.aspx Directions from City Centre to the conference venue: From City Centre/Railway Station to BUT Campus For Public transportation from the city center and central railway station to BUT campus, take tram No. 12 direction „Technologicky Park“ (every 5 minutes) and exit tram at station „Technologicky Park“. From there, walk 660 meters (see map) or take the bus No.53 and get off at the request stop “Podnikatelská“ (2 stops from „Technologický park“ tram stop). From there, cross the parking lots to the main entrance of the conference site at Technicka 12. Costs for the one-way ticket are 25 CZK. For arrivals at Central bus station (Student Agency buses from Vienna and Prague): Walk about 200 metres to the railway station and take the tram No. 12 in the direction „Technologický park“ (and continue as above). From the Continental Hotel: Walk about 200 m towards city centre to „Ceska street“ stop and take tram No. 12 (every 5 minutes) to „Technologicky park“ terminus (and continue as above). Transfer takes approx. 30 minutes to arrive to the Conference rooms. Getting to the Continental Hotel – main conference hotel – near the Rectorate: From the railway station (or bus station from Prague/Vienna airports), take tram No. 12 (direction Technologicky park) and get off at Ceska (3 stops), or tram No. 1 (direction Reckovice) and get off at Moravske namsti (2 stops). In either case, the hotel is less than 500 m away at Kounicova street 6. You will need a basic ticket for 20 CZK (valid for 15 minutes) or 25 CZK (valid for 60 minutes). You can also take a taxi (about 5 minutes, cost around 100 CZK). Hotel GPS coordinates are: +49°12'02.15"N, +16°36'16.70"E How to reach Brno Brno can be reached easily by direct trains from Berlin, Prague, Vienna, or by plane to Vienna and then by coach or train (130 km). Another possibility is to go by plane to Prague and then travel about 200 km by coach or train. By rail: Brno is on a direct route from Vienna to Berlin and Vienna to Warsaw (with a change at Breclav). The EC trains go every two hours from Germany and every 1-2 hours from Vienna). Time tables are available on http://jizdnirady.idnes.cz/vlakyautobusy/spojeni/?lng=ENGLISH By air to Vienna There is a direct bus connection from Vienna Schwechat Airport to Brno centre (Grand Hotel), with 7-8 buses per day each way. The buses leave from bus stop #2 in front of the airport building. The journey takes 2 ½ hours. A single ticket costs 17 EUR (or 360 CZK) one way, refreshments included. Check the timetables and buy tickets online at www.studentagency.eu or www.studentagency.cz. It is advised to buy tickets in advance. The bus driver will also sell a ticket on the bus, but only as long as free seats are available. At a small fee the ticket can be changed to an earlier or later connection (contact the driver). Travelling into Brno through Vienna Airport is highly recommended. Participants are actually discouraged from travelling to Brno via Prague airport, since the connection between Prague and Brno is more complicated and also takes longer (about 3 ½ - 4 hours). If you still plan to travel via Prague, bus tickets can be also purchased with the Student Agency (www.studentagency.eu); this entails a bus change at the main bus station in Prague). All bus connections from Prague or Vienna to Brno can be found at http://jizdnirady.idnes.cz/vlakyautobusy/spojeni/?lng=ENGLISH By car Brno is located in the southeastern part of the Czech Republic at the crossroads of the D1 (Berlin Prague – Brno) and D2 (Bratislava – Brno) motorways. Both these motorways form part of the transEuropean East-West and North-South highways. Brno is about 120 minutes drive from Vienna or 150 minutes drive from Prague. To reach the Conference venue or town center, use exit 190 (Brno – zapad) when leaving motorway D1. Note: You need a 10-day vignette for the highway toll. You will have to buy the vignette at the Czech boarder and stick it on the wind screen (on a lower right corner). The price for a 10-day vignette is 310 CZK (approx. 12 EUR).
