134 cars train westbound from Edmonton to the West Coast experienced an undesired emergency brake application
≡ The train derailed when 1 or more rail breaks occurred in the high rail as the train traversed the curve at the east end of Gainford siding.
≡ Railcars 13 through 25 had derailed. ≡ 4 derailed cars were petroleum crude oil and 9 cars were liquefied petroleum gas. (Transportation Safety Board, 2014‐2015)
≡ Incident Time Duration: 5 days, 11 hours
≡ Evacuation of at least 135 residents
≡ Detour of Highway 16 – Yellowhead Trans Canada
≡ Three invasive procedures used resolve the incident
