hyde park disc golf course (18 holes)

HYDE PARK DISC GOLF COURSE (18 HOLES)
designed by Dave Higgins / Andrea Stephens
Some Rules (not sure if they’re official, but they work):
1. You may take a run up to tee off.
2. When you tee off you must release your throw from behind the previous “hole” (e.g. a tree), no more than 6 feet or so from it to the left or right.
3. Except for the tee throw (when you don’t have to stand still), your back foot (usually pivot foot) must not be closer to the hole than where the disc lies.
4. You may pick up the disc by reaching for it like you would to get away from the sideline in Ultimate.
5. You simply have to hit the target, to “sink your putt”. If the target is a tree, you must hit the trunk. Roots count, but only if they are connected visibly to the
tree (i.e. a root that buries and resurfaces is not valid).
6. On this course: ALL CONCRETE IS WATER. So if you land on concrete, even if you bounce or roll off, you are in the water, and can play from
anywhere where the disc was last over land, all the way back to where you threw it if you like. You can’t just throw from the nearest land. To get out of
water costs an extra throw, as in golf. If your disc rolls towards water and ends up half in and half out, it is still in play. Your disc is wet if the whole disc is
in.

Description
From flagstone paving in front of Queen Victoria (nr Firkin), throw to the 3rd major tree to
the right of the path which goes diagonally across the park to Brudnell Rd. The tree has a
bendy trunk.
Turn and face Wrangthorn church steeple (over skatepark). The hole is the furthest upright
of the wooden “hurdle” furthest to the right, directly between you and the steeple. The
paving is not “water”.
Face the traffic. See 5 wooden posts to the left of the path. The hole is the tree between the
last two posts to the left.
Stand the park side of the concrete path. Look towards Hyde Park corner, parallel with the
road, down a corridor of trees. The hole is the tree in the dead centre of the corridor ahead.
It leans to the right.
This hole same direction, down the side of the park. It is the last tree on this side of the
park, just 15 ft approx. from the corner of the tennis court.
Walk to the next tee, which is past the statue of Peel across from the Night & Day, to
behind the second red bus stop. Throw down the long corridor of trees along the side of the
park. The hole is the last tree on the left before the path.
Throw up the park, towards the allotments. The hole is the first of two wooden posts just
left of the path, half way up. It has green paint on it.
Throw up in the same direction. The hole is right of the path at the top. It is a small tree
surrounded by three wooden posts. The posts don’t count.
Throw in the same direction again. The hole is a concrete bin in a grass island. The dirt
path is not water, only concrete.
Turn right, facing down the path towards the University. There is a row of trees on the right
of the path which end at the bowling green. The hole is the last tree in the row.
Throw across the path towards the University and the swampy part of the park. The hole is
the red dog-poo bin and its pole.
Look back up towards the Firkin. The hole is the young tree 15 ft behind the seat, on the
right hand side of the “water”. (For when you get closer: there are two trees behind the seat,
it is the second tree.)
Staying that side of the path, throw back the way you came, to the tree nearest the railings.
Look back up towards the Firkin. Just left of the path, across from the seat and a bit further
up, is a tree with a black hole half way up the trunk. That tree is the hole.
Look towards the Firkin. The hole is a leaning tree just left of the gate on the RHS of the
path.
Turn back towards the field. Throw towards the bowling green, to the tree sticking out most
into the field, nearest to the Ultimate practice area.
Look towards Akmal’s. Follow the neat hedge with your eye along to the left-most end.
The tree nearest that end as you see it now is the hole.
Look around the corner towards the road, mid way between the Firkin and Akmal’s. There
are three wooden hurdles. The nearest upright of the hurdle nearest the Firkin is the hole.
The paving stones are not “water”.

If players of very different abilities are playing,
use a handicap system. Your handicap is your
average shots-over-PAR over your last four
rounds. Deduct it from your score when you
play versus another player. They will deduct
their handicap also, and thus the better player
on the day, compared to their usual
performance, will win. You cannot have a
negative handicap: if you average -1 for
example, your handicap is just zero.
