Cloud Computing Services within a Smart Product Environment International Conference on Cloud Computing and Services Sciences In Lisbon, Portugal on May 20-22 2015 “CLOSER2015” Session chairs A. BOURAS Qatar University- Qatar [email protected] A. SEKLOULI SEKHARI University Lyon2 - DISP laboratory- France [email protected] Y. OUZROUT University Lyon2 - DISP laboratory- France [email protected] Call for papers Thanks to innovations in information and mobile technologies, new product development shifts from physical to hybrid configuration that integrates physical devices within digital platforms. Such kind of Smart Products consist in physical parts working as an interface and software parts collecting data from users or environments and interpreting the results as the services. Integration of communication and information technologies into products enables new functionalities and services to satisfy customer’s requirements. In order to satisfy the desires for personalized products, smart products require variability and customized features. Smart product development is more complex than traditional product and requires knowledge from interdisciplinary expertise. Hence, smart product development requires a collaborative platform to support information/knowledge sharing and decision-making among involved stakeholders (designers, physical part manufacturers, software developers, users). Cloud computing approaches have the potential to support collaborative working environment during the beginning of life (BoL) i.e. product design, development, and manufacturing phase and middle of life (MoL) i.e. use and maintenance phase. BoL requires a collaborative platform for multiple-stakeholders. The development of smart product can be enabled through the integration of online communication, collaborative design, virtual prototyping through in the cloud and developed in modular form. At MoL, smart products desire cloud infrastructure to manage the information among users, service providers, and manufacturers. Several research works on smart product development; digital applications, and cloud computing but they lack a real integration. This leads to new research challenges in developing new methodologies for designing and developing smart products based on cloud computing framework. Collaboration among product development actors and an identification of customer requirements are other challenges. For instance; information extraction can effectively integrate the voice of customers into smart product development. The specific product features and the customer’s opinions extraction enable the early product validation before the production and assembly launch. Moreover, intelligent analysis of the dynamic customer requirements can better support the new product development. The basic information extraction tasks including identifying product features, identifying opinions regarding product features, determining the polarity of opinions, and recommending the relevant information to specific needs. Although more and more works are emerging to handle these tasks, the existing approaches often produce uninformative or incoherent information. In additional, the unstructured and the ambiguous data can raise many new information extraction challenges. Addressing these challenges requires new approaches, which can support smart products development. This special session aims to focus on Cloud Computing based methodologies, tools, and applications implemented during BoL and MoL of smart products. What are the specific features of smart products and how does cloud computing technology facilitate the collaborative product development along lifecycle of smart products? Theoretical approaches and practical case studies are welcome to this Special Session.
