Congratulations!
Credit unions invest in the future by supporting area academic and
sporting events. Each year, Cloverbelt awards six to ten $400 scholarships to outstanding high schools seniors from the area who plan
to attend a four-year college or university or a two-year technical
college or trade school. Scholarship winners are selected based on
their academic achievement, school and community involvement,
work experience, and education and career goals.
To qualify as a scholarship candidate, applicants, their parents or
their grandparents, must have at least a six months membership in
good standing with the credit union.
Please join us in congratulating this year’s scholarship winners. We
wish them all the best.

About 3 years ago, credit unions throughout the nation began
an effort called Project Differentiation. The idea was to have credit unions participate by creating a written document explaining the
ways their credit union was uniquely different from other types of
financial institutions.
I have always believed that hometown and regional banks are
a much-needed part of every community. What is important to
note, however, is that a credit union, such as CCU, is not just a
smaller version of these banks. Not at all! Although CCU offers
nearly all of the same services, the credit union remains uniquely
different in several very fundamental ways.
Although I want to point out some differences, it is not my
intention to criticize banks, but simply to note the philosophical
and structural differences between credit unions and banks. Banks
can be privately-owned. They can be community banks owned by
investors, or publicly-owned by shareholders of the bank stock.
Comparatively, credit unions are member-owned cooperatives governed by a board of directors elected by the members.
How does this affect you as a CCU member?
As not-for-profit cooperatives, credit unions’ earnings are
returned to members in the form of more competitive rates in
deposit accounts and loans, lower fees, and improved services.
Privately owned or publicly-held banks operate with the motivation
to increase the value of the stock and pay higher dividends for the
benefit of the private owners or public stockholders. This may come
at the expense of depositors through less favorable rates and higher fees.
Serving our members with great rates is one of the many benefits we provide. Another is dedication to community service.
The credit union philosophy of “People Helping People” benefits both our members and the community at large. I am very
proud of our Employee Volunteer Program. Under the direction of
long-time employee Kathy Jansen, CCU's dedicated staff has always
taken a leadership role, contributing both time and money to a
wide variety of charitable organizations.
Cloverbelt Credit Union has served our community for nearly
70 years. I could continue to write more, but the articles in our
newsletter will provide you with additional examples of how CCU
is uniquely different and always working harder for you. No matter
what your financial need, let us show you how being a CCU member makes a big difference.

GET PRE-APPROVAL FIRST!
Thinking of purchasing a new or used vehicle? Why not take a
few moments and get pre-approved for your loan before you
start shopping? Pre-approval is quick and easy. Apply over the
phone or on-line. A CCU lender will then advise you of the
amount you're qualified to borrow. Pre-approval is great! It saves
you time and disappointment. So apply today and start shopping. When you find the right vehicle, at the right price just tell
the dealer "I'm pre-qualified with a great rate at CCU!" and give
us a call to complete the loan process.

Many lenders will typically charge a higher rate of interest for
used vehicles. But not CCU! Our philosophy is to reward thriftiness by offering 2002 and newer used vehicles at the same rate
as a new 2004 vehicle. Great Rates on used vehicles! One of the
"BIG Difference" benefits of being a CCU member.

RELAY FOR LIFE
For the 4th year in a row, a team of CCU

This year’s event was held June 13 and

turns walking on the track continuously throughout the 17hour event.
Team CCU raised over $2,700 through collected donations
and the sale of gift baskets and other items in our lobby. Thank
you to those members who bought a basket or made a donation to this very worthy cause.
Over $1000 in prizes will
be given away during the
