Interoffice Communication Memorandum Number: DSOP–15-006 Date: To: Administrators-All From: Thomas A. Phelps, Deputy Superintendent - Operations Subject: Take Your Child To Work Day March 16, 2015 We have received several inquiries about Take Your Child to Work Day on April 23, 2015. Many of the schools have requested some guidelines regarding this day. Take Your Child to Work Day is designed for students ages 8-18 to experience a day at work with their parent. Schools may approve student absences for students spending April 23, 2015 with a parent outside of school district properties as a pre-arranged absence. Parents should complete the pre-arranged absence form. The parent must supply the school with a note from the parent's employer stating approval for the parent to take the child to work with him or her on the designated day. This absence would be considered excused and students should be allowed to complete classwork missed for the day. Please note that April 23rd is one of the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) testing days. Parents should be notified that if they plan to take advantage of “Take Your Child to Work Day”, they must complete the pre-arranged application two weeks prior to April 23rd in order to ensure that schools have adequate time to ensure FSA testing is completed for their child. A letter, which is attached, will be posted on the district website for your staff to refer parents to if they have questions. For reasons of confidentiality, supervision and student safety, school district employees cannot bring their children to work with them on April 23, 2015. Staff member children that are ages 8-18 are encouraged to participate in this day with a parent who works outside of the school district setting. Please remember that there will be no early release of students from school on Wednesday, April 15, Wednesday, April 22 and on Wednesday, April 29, 2015. While we encourage all students not to miss school during FSA testing, parents wishing for their child ages 8-18 to participate in Take Your Child To Work Day on April 23rd, which falls within the FSA testing window, should complete the pre-arranged absence form at the school two weeks in advance of the date for approval. It will also be necessary to provide the school with a note from the parent's employer stating approval for the parent to take the child to work on the designated day. Thank you in advance for making attendance a priority. Students and teachers have worked extremely hard since school began in August to prepare for the FSA. We are confident that their efforts and preparation will show tremendous results.
