Interpreter assignment fees
Aboriginal Interpreter Service (AIS) fees quoted include administration costs and exclude GST.

Cancellation
Cancellations must be made in writing to [email protected] at least 24 hours prior to the assignment.
If cancellation is provided with less than 24 hours notice the minimum assignment charge will apply.
Travel and accommodation
We will make travel and transport arrangements for interpreter assignments as required, and bill you for these
costs on assignment completion.
Travel and transport costs may include:






Airfares
Taxi fares
Accommodation
Travel-time allowance @ $22.80 per hour
Mileage allowance - own vehicle use rate @ 0.76 cents per km
Travel allowance* (including meals and incidentals) @ $92.90 per overnight / or a partial (non-overnight) rate
*Travel allowances (GST is not applicable) will be paid as per the applicable rates set out in Determination 1 issued at the
beginning of each calendar year by the Commissioner for Public Employment for the Northern Territory. Travel allowances
exclude accommodation costs.

Make a booking
You can book an Aboriginal interpreter to work anytime: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Before you book
You will need to provide the following information:

name of the organisation/ section requesting the service
name of the English speaker requiring an interpreter
name, skin name, age and gender of the Aboriginal person/persons requiring the interpreter
Aboriginal language to be interpreted
community of origin
location, date and time the service is needed
topic of the interpreting assignment
Your information allows us to find a culturally-appropriate interpreter, prepare the interpreter for the
assignment, and avoid any last-minute conflicts of interest that could cancel the assignment.
Meeting before the interpreting assignment
You need to meet with the interpreter before the assignment. This can be a phone conversation with the
interpreter to brief them on the topic of the assignment.
How to make a booking
Except in the case of emergencies, booking requests must be made a minimum of 2 days before the
appointment. This gives us time to find an appropriate interpreter, and to make travel arrangements if
necessary.
To book an on-site or telephone interpreting assignment

Call the Booking line to book an assignment outside of standard business hours: Monday to Friday, 8.00am to
4.21pm.
Payment procedures
We will first arrange payment to the interpreter, including travel costs, and then issue an invoice to you.
At the end of each interpreting assignment, you must submit a timesheet, available from the AIS website. You
will be charged based on hours documented in your timesheet. Your timesheet needs to accurately state the
interpreting time, as well as travel time and lunch breaks if required.
Prompt submission of your timesheet allows us to pay AIS interpreters each week. Without a timesheet, we
cannot process their payments.

Billing procedures
We will issue an invoice to you within 30 days of assignment completion, itemising fees and any travel or
transport costs.
If you are a new client to AIS the following information is required at the time of booking an interpreting
assignment.
