The very latest Chevrolet Cargo Express Van is used as the base for the
Ice Cream Truck. This is then converted with a hardwearing but lightweight
ﬁbreglass body and kitted out with the highest spec refrigeration system
available in the ice cream mobiling industry. Coupled with the fuel-efﬁcient
DDS system and latest Carpigiani soft ice cream machine, these Trucks really

The Cummins Chevrolet
The Cummins Chevrolet is built using the tried and
tested Express Van model. GM offer a 5year/100,000 mile
warranty service with all vehicles registered in the US.
Featuring the Vortec 4.8L V8 engine with a 31USG fuel
tank, the van also includes a 105Amp Alternator, antilock
disc brakes, power steering and the Chevrolet Electronic
Stability Control System as standard.
Once stripped to its basics the van begins its conversion process. This
starts with the ﬁtting of the fully moulded GRP bodywork; lightweight and
hard wearing this material has proved the most successful and long lasting
in ice cream mobiling. The bodywork demonstrates 50 years of traditional
Cummins styling from the UK. Experience has shown that a touch of
nostalgia coupled with the very latest vehicle provides a winning formula
for success.
Inside, the Ice Cream Truck is completed with a fully lined easy clean interior.
This ensures lightweight construction, as well as a bright and spacious
working environment. The counters and shelving within the interior of the Ice
Cream Trucks are assembled using a laminate ﬁnish. This ensures a hard
wearing and easy-to-clean environment for the vendor. This is the preferred
form of construction for Health Departments around the World.
The refrigeration system is the highest standard available within the ice
cream mobiling industry. Each vehicle is ﬁtted with a 17 cu ft cold plate deep
freeze and separate chill with an ice compartment for cold drinks. These are
operated using R404a through the independent system. An overnight charge
via 110 V mains and thermostat control ensures they remain at the correct
temperature. Most important of all is that there is no need for a gas guzzling
generator or other auxiliary power.

The Cummins ice cream truck comes complete with the latest Carpigiani
soft ice cream freezer – the highest performing truck machines available
today. With twin barrels allowing the vendor to offer single and twist cones,
these machines are easily capable of delivering 400 large cones every hour!
The Carpigiani is powered by our Patented DDS (Direct Drive System).
Through the use of various pulleys and an electromagnetic clutch system,
the machine can be continually operated whilst the vehicles engine remains
running at idle – very fuel efﬁcient. This eliminates the requirement for any
generator power and ensures the machine remains constantly available for
serving – unlike electric machines, which often require lag time to refreeze.
Our DDS has revolutionised the ice cream mobiling industry; it allows you to
take the ice cream to the people, no matter where they may be.
All Cummins Chevrolet Ice Cream Trucks are professionally painted and
liveried by our in-house design team. With approximately 10,000 vans
completed between them, they are capable of recreating anything! The

Inside the Ice Cream Truck
The inside of the Ice Cream Truck is your workplace;
therefore it is vitally important that it is comfortable and
enables you to operate the Truck to it’s fullest potential.
The interior is fully insulated and lined. Our ﬁbreglass products have a
smooth gelcoat ﬁnish, which gives the vendor an easy clean 1-wipe surface
to work with. This hard wearing surface ensures product longevity and
cleaning requirements are kept to a minimum. Finished in white, the roof
lining also ensures a light and bright interior. The laminate-ﬁnished shelving
and work surface is hand built and installed to the exact requirement of
the individual customer.
A typical Cummins Ice Cream Truck will be ﬁtted with the very latest
Carpigiani soft ice cream machine. Manufactured in Italy exclusively for
Whitby Morrison, these machines really are the best performing units
available today. They are operated via the patented DDS and will allow you
to serve soft ice cream all day without the need for a generator or any
other auxiliary power.

All trucks have a stainless steel, 17 cu ft cold plate freezer, with four double
lids, ﬁtted as standard. This custom manufactured refrigeration system has
been developed so that following an overnight charge, the freezer is frozen to
the desired temperature. The eutectic holdover tank construction maintains
the operating temperature for the following working day. A chilled storage
with stainless steel interior is ﬁtted alongside each freezer. With two doors
and a lid, this is perfect for storing drinks and liquid ice cream mix. As with
the freezer the eutectic holdover tank design maintains the temperature
throughout the working day. All freezers and chillers have colour-coded
ﬁbreglass lids and doors. These are hand built and of course fully insulated
and hardwearing.
In all cases the speciﬁcation for your new Cummins Ice Cream truck will
comply with the most stringent of health and safety regulations. Truly built
to last, by some of the UK’s ﬁnest craftsmen, it is not uncommon to see a
truck of 20 or even 30 years of age operating as efﬁciently today as the
day it was ﬁrst put on the road.

Carpigiani
Our high performance soft ice cream freezers are
manufactured exclusively for us, by Carpigiani in Italy.
Working closely with Carpigiani, we have combined
our technology and experience to develop the very best
high output soft ice cream machines.
The Carpigiani Van Super Tre is ﬁtted to all our soft ice cream trucks and has
twin high performance freezing cylinders, ‘R’ type pumps and multi element
beater blades. This two-ﬂavour machine allows the vendor the ﬂexibility to
offer two-ﬂavoured ‘twist’ ice cream, or a simple single ﬂavour.
Powered by our DDS, the Cummins ice cream truck allows you to take your
freshly made soft ice cream to the people wherever they may be. For indoor
or special event operations, an additional electric motor drive system is
available. This provides the option to power the soft ice cream machine from
an on-site power.
These fantastic machines are unique to the market and should not be
confused with the lower performance electronically operated ‘shop’ machines.

Whitby Specialist Vehicles was founded in 1962 by Bryan
Whitby as a manufacturer of Soft Ice Cream Machinery and
one-off custom vehicle bodywork.
As time has progressed, our range of products and services has been
carefully developed to reﬂect changing market requirements. Designs are
reﬁned and new ideas incorporated with a constant endeavour to pre-empt
future requirements. The current range of Whitby Morrison mobiles and
equipment are considered ‘World Class’ and are produced by some of the
UK’s ﬁnest craftsmen. Every product is manufactured to the exact preference
of the customer, making it truly bespoke.
Constant high demand and continued repeat business from around the
world has led to further expansion. Our factory is purpose-built with separate
moulding, fabrication, refrigeration, vehicle build and ﬁnishing facilities, whilst
conﬁdential research and development is conducted in our own independent
design centre. As the demands of the market develop, so does the capacity
for innovation and level of in-house ability. Ice Cream Vehicles are the core
product of Whitby Morrison, alongside Trailer Kiosks and Tricycles. We also
continue to develop our involvement in manufacturing unique vehicles to

Today, Bryan’s son Stuart is Managing Director and in 2005 Bryan’s eldest
Grandson, Ed, became the ﬁrst from a third generation of the Whitby family
to join the Company. These three generations and their workforce continue
their work together, with that same belief: ‘we produce the very best, or we
produce nothing at all’. However, clear in our minds is that it is important to
move and adapt with the changes; without such the customer cannot be
satisﬁed.
