Competition Guidance
What to Bring to a Sports Competition
Each participant, team manager and helper will need to
bring with them:
 Sports kit appropriate for the sport you are competing in
 Change of clothes in case of inclement weather
 Packed lunch, drinks and snacks
 Water bottle
 Suntan lotion
 Waterproofs
 Hat/cap
Each school, team should bring with them:
 Completed team declration form
 Practice equipment appropriate for the sport
 Optional groundsheet for wet weather conditions
 For outdoor sports, teams may also bring a gazebo for shade/shelter
but please ask Sport Organiser where it can be placed before erecting it.
 First Aid kit
Transport
It is the responsibility of each school to make their way to each
of the competitions.
Team Registration
You will need to bring the competition team registration form with you
to each of the competitions you enter and hand to the Registration Table
for your sport when you arrive at your competition (see page 50).
Some sports will be required to provide a declaration prior to the day of
the competition (Gymnastics, Swimming and Athletics).

Competition Guidance
Photography
Official photographers and the Press will be present at some of
the New Forest competitions.
Photographs and videos taken may be used in future publicity by the
organising committee and their partners (specifically Schools, School
Sports Partnerships, Sport Hampshire & IOW, New Forest District Council
and National Governing Bodies of Sport), either in printed publications, in
media, on video and/or on websites.
Every school is responsible for ensuring they have gained consent for
each individual child from their school attending the games as to whether
permission is given or not given in relation to photography/videoing. You
will be required to declare this on your Team Entry Form which you will
hand to the sports registration on the day of the competition. This form
MUST be signed by your Headteacher.
Please note that photography/video consent is valid for five years from
the date of the competition.
Those without photography/video consent will be given a
wristband/sticker indicating this.
A red wristband/sticker will be an indication that permission has NOT
been given. It will be the responsibility of the Teacher/Team Manager
to ensure young people in their care are wearing the wristband/sticker,
where appropriate. You will be given the stickers / wristbands at the sports
Registration Table on the day of the competition.
For players in the Basketball & Netball competitions, we request that these
wristbands are worn around the ankle ensuring they are still visible.

Code of Conduct
Young people, Team Managers and Spectators are reminded
abddefg
that the New Forest Primary School Sport competitions are
played in the spirit of the School Games Values; Determination,
Honesty, Passion, Respect, Self Belief and Teamwork.
Each competition will have a specific School Games Value
focus.
 The emphasis is on competition enjoyment. Those involved
in the New Forest Primary School Sport compettions are
representing their school and should reflect their behaviour
accordingly
 Winning at all costs is NOT encouraged and teams/
individuals must compete within the rules of competition
 We ask that everyone takes pride in themselves and their
team. Always respect the Officials and Referees decision. Have
fun and enjoy the competitions.
Welfare - Duty of Care
This is a schools event and it is expected that all teams travelling will be
attending as a school team. As with all school trips you are required to
complete your regular off-site forms for your school. We expect all teams
to abide by their school policy on use of adult helpers to support the teams
travelling to the event and providing support on the day.
Duty of Care remains with the school teacher at all times. We expect
all schools to have taken responsibility for ensuring all the team
managers and adult helpers have undergone the appropriate checks
and briefings on safeguarding of young people on school trips.

First Aid
We would like to remind schools that they should provide their own first
kit for minor incidents. More serious cases will be transferred to:

Playing schedules will be handed out at registration on the day of
competition.
Late Arrivals
If a team arrives at an event after the designated start time because of
unavoidable delay, Sport Organisers have been asked to allow that the
team take part if at all possible within the structure of the event, although
the final decision is left with the Sport Organiser.
Adjudication of Disputes
Sport Organisers have total responsibility for the interpretation and
enforcement of the rules and regulations. The Sport Organiser in charge
of the competition will finally determine any disputes.

A squad will consist of a maximum of 8 players with a maximum of
6 playing at any one time. This includes a designated goalkeeper.
It is recomended that players wear shin pads and footwear suitable
for an astro pitch (moulds and studs are not acceptable).
Schools can enter as many teams as they wish. Subject to the
School Sport Partnership’s confirmation.
Competition Rules / Format
The matches will follow the rules of Mini Soccer, please contact the
School Sport Partnership if you would like a copy of these.
Rolling substitutions may be made at any time during a game, with
the referee’s permission.
There will be no offside.

Only primary schools with 125 pupils or less in their entire school may

SCHOOL GAMES VALUE: PASSION
Team Requirements
4 players must be entered for each team. Teams must consist of 4
boys OR 4 girls. Players must be ranked in skill order, with one being
the most skilful.
Schools can enter as many teams as they wish. Subject to the School
Sport Partnership’s confirmation.
Competition Format
A match shall consist of 8 sets with each set being the best of five
games (eleven up). The order of play shall be as follows: 1 v 2, 2 v 1,
3 v 4, 4 v 3, 1 v 1, 3 v 2, 2 v 3, 4 v 4.

Cross Country Relays
Boys and Girls (Years 5 & 6)
Team Requirements
Schools can enter as many teams as they wish.
Competition Format
Each runner will complete one lap of the course. Each lap is
approximately 1,200m.
The 1st leg runner will start the race (with all of the other 1st leg
runners). They will run the course and then tag the 2nd leg runner
and so on. The race finishes when the 3rd leg runner crosses the
finish line. The first 3rd leg runner home wins the race with their
team.

Swimming - Aquasplash

Boys and Girls (Years 3 & 4)
Team Requirements
Teams of 12 swimmers (6 boys and 6 girls).
It is advised that each swimmer swims a maximum of 2 individual
races and 3 relays races (relay teams must be 4 swimmers per team).
The team declaration form must be emailed to the School Sport
Partnership at least one week before the competition.
Competition Rules / Format
The competition will follow the aquasplash format, full details can
be found via the following website:

One length will be the will be approx. 18 metres.
There will be 9 individual events and 7 relay events. Please contact
the School Sport Partnership for a full description of each event.
Events include: One Length Frontcrawl, Mushroom Float, One
Length Backstroke Kick, Star Float, One Length Backstroke,
Swimming With A Ball, One Length Frontcrawl Kick, Push and
Glide, Frontcrawl Kick Relay, Hoop Relay, Ten Pin Relay, Balancing
Race Relay, Footy Relay, Freestyle Relay and Float Relay.

Competition Rules / Format
Games will be played 5v5
Either team may substitute a player whenever the ball is out of play.
Each team is permitted up to two time-outs of one minute during
each half.
At a change of possession e.g. foul, basket, ball out of play, play
should restart from the nearest side/end line or the top of the arc if
playing half court.
Any player persistently fouling may be removed from the game by
the referee. In the event of a foul the opposing team will receive
the ball on the nearest side/end line. If the player is fouled in the act
of shooting one/two free throws are awarded; one if the basket is
scored and two if the shot is missed. Each free throw is worth one
point.
In the event of a tie a free throw ‘shootout’ will decide the result of
the game.
Scoring: baskets scored from outside the arc (if available) = 3 points,
baskets scored from inside the arc = 2 points.
When a team scores, the other team gain possession of the ball on
the end line or outside the arc if playing half court.

Competition Rules / Format
Each match shall consist of three games with each game being the
first to eleven or timed. The order of play for each match shall be as
follows:

Tag Rugby

Team Requirements
Substituted players can be re-used at any time. Substitutions may
only be made when the ball is not in play, or at half time, and must
always be with the referee’s knowledge.
Competition Information
The tag belt is a belt worn around the waist to which two ‘ribbons’
(tags) are attached by Velcro. One tag hangs down each side. The
belt is worn on the outside of the clothing. Shirts should be tucked
in, with the tag belt on top of the shirt. Tags are positioned one on
each hip and teams are distinguished by the colour of tags they
wear.
Approx. dimensions of playing area:The pitch size for games will be
50 metres in length and 34 in width (Inc. a 5m dead ball line).

Competition Information
‘Play on part of the famous London 2012 hockey pitch’
The emphasis of the festival is based on various skills challenges that
will be set-up on the famous Olympic Hockey pitch.
It is recommended that players have shin pads, mouth guards and
appropriate footwear (no studs).
It is also recommended that schools bring their own hockey sticks as
we can’t guarantee sticks for all players taking part.
Please be aware that car parking is limited by the school. However,
there is a church car park in Woodcock Lane that can be used
(located on the other side of the crossroads from the school)
Teachers / parents will need to sign themselves in at reception
along with how many children are with them

Team Requirements
High Five Netball is a game which may be played by single sex or
mixed squads with a maximum of 3 boys in the squad (only 2 boys
on court at one time). The squad should consist of a minimum of 7
and a maximum of 9 players with 5 on court at any one time.
The squad is made up of the following playing positions GS, GA, C,
GD, GK as well as scorers/time keeper and centre pass marker who
have taken on these roles when off court. In squads of 8 & 9, one
person should also be responsible for recording and calling whose
centre pass it is.
Schools can enter as many teams as they wish. Subject to the School
Sport Partnership’s confirmation.

The ring will be 2.74m (9ft) from the ground.

Competition Format
There are two races. Half of your team of six will run in race one
and the other half will run in race two.
Race One: 2 boys and 1 girl
Race Two: 2 girls and 1 boy
The two teams scores will be added together to give them an
overall score. Incomplete teams are also allowed to run.
For example: If both teams finish 5th in their respective races, the
team will have a overall score of 10pts. The lower the overall score
the better.

The first 3 runners in each team will score as the A team, the next 3
the B team and so on.
Schools can send as few as 3 runners to achieve a team score in a
race. Incomplete teams are also allowed to run.
Team managers will be asked to record their teams’ results on
results sheets provided and return these to the results recorder after
each race.

Competition Rules / Format
The competition is played as a team event and will follow the LTA
Mini-Tennis Red rules.
Matches will follow ‘Timed Tennis’ format of 10 minutes per match,
using ‘Tie Break’ scoring (time is dependant on the number of teams
entered).
Each match will consist of 4 singles and 2 doubles (school to decide
player order).
