Micro Chicks Take State Championship at First Lego League
The Micro Chicks of Beech Hill Elementary took first place in the South Carolina First Lego League (FLL) on
March 7 at Summerville High School. The overall win makes the “all-girls” team the State Champions of the
East Division. The team will advance to the national competition in San Diego, California - held in May - where
they will compete against more than 60 teams from around the world.
Students Participate in Engineering Competition
Gateway to Technology students from three
Dorchester District Two Middle Schools traveled
to the University of South Carolina in Columbia
for the engineering competition on March 10.
Twenty-four students from DuBose Middle, Oakbrook Middle, and River Oaks Middle competed
and interacted with engineering students at USC as
well as other Gateway to Technology students from
across the state.
Dubose Middle brought home the 2nd place trophy for the Design and Modeling Competition. The
Design and Modeling teams from the three schools
created their models in Autodesk and delivered
professional presentations. The Robotics teams
from the three schools did an amazing job design-
ing and creating robots to compete in the competition. Students benefited greatly from this learning
experience.

Two FCCLA chapters from Fort Dorchester High School recently
attended the State Leadership Conference at the Embassy Suites in
North Charleston and competed in the following areas with much
success.

Career Investigation: Abby Snellgrove - Gold
Mrs. Brown’s Group
Culinary: Corey Chesser, Sarah O’Connor, Savannah Snover - Silver
Nutrition and Wellness: Chastity Matthews Finley - Gold
Career Investigation: Demeneac Williams - Silver
Food Innovations: Johnny Rivera Garcia and Julia Speights - Silver
Hospitality: Khalil Allen, Jaron Burns, Michael Hathaway - Silver
All Gold winners will travel to Washington, DC in July to compete
on the national level.
DD2 Principals Earn Top Honors
Spelling Bee Champ for
Second Consecutive Year
Razeen Basunia, a student at
Rollings Middle School of the
Arts, recenly won the 2014-2015
Lowcountry Spellbound. This is
the second consecutive year that
Razeen has captured the title of
top speller in the lowcountry. He
will now compete in the National
Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

the annual SC PTA Convention on March 14.
