Hello Friends,
What a fantastic May this is starting out to be. First, I was proud
to be part of the groundbreaking
ceremony for the new Silver Eagle
distribution facility on Highway
225 near the Beltway. We’re so
glad they chose Pasadena as their
Gary Nickelson
new home. This will create new
Chairman of the Board
jobs, tax revenue and a new
business partner in the community. My hat goes off to the
Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, whose hard work several
years ago resulted in Pasadena becoming a 100% “wet” city.
The Chamber formed a committee that raised money to
hire a consulting firm, worked with local government and
knocked on doors to ensure that Pasadena would vote
“yes” on election day. This win was instrumental for companies like Silver Eagle coming to Pasadena and calling it
home. This is YOUR Chamber at work.
Another great event was the ribbon cutting for the new
completed section of Fairmont Pkwy near Space Center.
Mayor Isbell, Commissioner Jack Mormon, Constable
Phil Sandlin and many others came together to develop
a plan to improve many new streets and general infrastructure for our city. Thanks to all those responsible. Traffic is
certainly moving better now!
The Texas McDonald Invitational is hosting a golf
tournament on June 21st at Timber Creek Golf Course
to benefit the Pasadena and Deer Park school districts.
For more information, go to http://helpdpkids.org/docs/
golf-classic-2013.pdf. This is a great tournament for a
great cause.

The May mixer at the Workforce Solutions (Town Square Mall) was another successful event. We had over 50 participants
who represented various businesses and community organizations. Jaime Campos, Director of the Workforce Solutions,
informed us about the great work they are doing to prepare job seekers and match them with businesses who are hiring.
We learned that the Workforce Solutions goes as far providing child care, gas money and basic equipment.
Our next networking opportunity is
scheduled for June 20th at the ClevelandRipley Neighborhood Center located on
720 Fairmont Pkwy. Our speaker will be
Jose Leal who will give us information
about the upcoming changes in health
care. In addition, we will spotlight a few
businesses. Come prepared to give a quick
plug about your company or organization!
You might be the one selected. Breakfast
will be served at 8:15 a.m.

Plug Into PISD
Snagged from North Dakota
a dozen years ago, Frazier’s
assistant principle bags state award
To moose and mountain lions, North Dakota may seem like paradise. But for
aspiring teachers like Lindsey Lesniewski, the job environment in the Flickertail State
was as inhospitable as chin-high snow.
Twelve years later, North Dakota’s loss continues to pay educational dividends
for Texas and the Pasadena ISD.
Lesniewski, now completing her fourth year as assistant principal at Frazier
Elementary, was recently named Texas Assistant Principal of the Year by the Texas
Elementary Schools and Principals Association (TESPA).
Chosen as the TESPA District 4 winner in January, Lesniewski got the good news
about the state prize from Frazier colleagues last week.
“I thought they were punking me at first,” she said.
A dozen years ago, Lesniewski and husband Jason were plucked from a job fair
in North Dakota. Libby Escalante, principal at Fisher Elementary, ventured north to
represent the Pasadena ISD and enlisted both the Lesniewskis for teaching jobs in
the district.
Lindsey Lesniewski had never been to Texas in her life. But the job market at
North Dakota, at the time, was iced over. She and Jason had no other option.
“For us to get a teaching job in North Dakota, it was impossible,” she says.
“You had to substitute teach for years and the pay was about $19,000 a year.”
Lesniewski stayed seven years at Gardens as a fourth- and fifth-grade teacher
before joining Escalante at Fisher for one year as the school’s peer facilitator.
Lesniewski found her close associations with other Pasadena ISD educators to be
of great benefit.
At Gardens, her mentor was Wendy Wiseburn, then a fellow teacher who now
serves as principal at Frazier. It was Wiseburn’s predecessor, Rhonda Parmer, who
hired Lesniewski to be assistant principal at Frazier.
Lesniewski’s TESPA selection extends Frazier’s legacy of high administrative
honors. Two years ago, Parmer earned Texas Principal of the Year honors and was
later named National Distinguished Principal.
“I have to give Wendy a lot of credit for where I am in education,” Lesniewski
says. “And Rhonda taught me a lot. She gave me my start as an administrator and
we worked very closely together.”
Jason Lesniewski, who also started his Pasadena ISD career at Gardens, now
teaches sixth-grade science at Morris Middle School, just down Beamer Road from
Frazier.
“I’m blessed to be at Frazier,” Lindsey says. “This is a wonderful school. Everyone
is involved to do what is best for the kids. We set our bar high and the parents are
very supportive.”
Lesniewski will be honored at TESPA’s summer conference next month in Austin.
