As usual FRCC will have a couple adjoining tables where old club equipment as well as donated items will be sold to raise money for the club. This is a great way to help earn some additional funds for the club. Some members of the junior racing team will be helping me with the event; however, I need some additional help in the following ways: • Donations of cycling or outdoor gear, which we can sell. • Help with setting up the booths/tables on Friday evening. • Help with selling and manning the booth on Saturday, (pick a time that you can help, even if it’s just for 1 or 2 hours.) The first few volunteers will get what available admission tickets that the club receives. Please, contact me if you can help in any way! We should have had more participants, but those of us that did make it had a great time. And no ER visits. We had incredible sunny skies, no threat of moisture, and 2 vans of energetic youth. The van approached saved not only money (from the big coach) but enabled the kids to interact closer with the drivers and themselves. Riders enjoyed the trails, the lake, and playing amidst the trees. And then we enjoyed a nice lunch in Frisco at a fast food restaurant of kids’ choice. It was interesting to witness what the kids chose for their PDF created with pdfFactory Pro trial version www.pdffactory.com CYCLO-CROSS Last month’s newsletter mentioned great to do some riding on a of year for cyclocross. There are December. If you don’t race cross watch, it’s a great spectator fairly short, so you see the riders fun to walk around the course negotiate the various obstacles it’s that time of the year where it’s fixed gear bike. Also, it’s that time many races from now through like me, just go to a race and friendly sport. The courses are come by every few minutes and its watching these amazing riders and technical sections of the course. Many first timers use a mtn. bike easier to lift and run past on the non-technical portions. can’t run, but I do own a cross Veloswap. It’s a lot of fun to ride normally don’t get a chance to bike. I ride many of the trails at Creek State Parks, the Highline many dirt roads S. and E. of the metro area. but a real cross bike is way lighter, obstacles with, and is much faster Personally, I don’t race because I bike that I bought used at the the trails and dirt roads that you ride in the summer on your road Ken Caryl, Chatfield and Cherry Canal, Waterton Canyon and the Looking Back As the current master of FRCC records, I have boxes filled with memorabilia in my attic. In a recent ‘cleaning up’ moment, I came across one box filled with dated RACING EXPRESS editions, spanning the days even before ACA was our governance and BRAC was thriving here in Colorado. There are announcements of races that have long fallen from our annual calendar, shops that have closed their doors. On the other hand, it is wonderful to see the shops that continue to thrive and serve dedicated cyclists in our area, the races that are legendary, and the changes in equipment. My favourite discovery in these old issues were the pictures race results, and articles on our FRCC youth riders. We’ve come a long way over the years, some characters still on the road. Well, after spending time with these old rags, I’m glad to say I’ve placed them back in the box, sparing them from the trash. I look forward to passing them on someday, that we may all remember the great times and see where we’ve been. If you’d like a look at some of this history, give me a call! -Jim Friday Night Social Rides at Washington Park, 6 p.m. We’ve had some great turn outs this year and tons of fun riding and socializing. I hope you got a chance to join us for one of these. If you haven’t attended it maybe to late, the days are just getting short.
