Help Fund Cancer Research – Get Involved Now
Golfers Against Cancer (GAC) is a national organization founded in 1997 by a group of Houston golfers
who lost two close friends to cancer. Motivated to raise money for cancer research, they created an annual
golf tournament with a live/silent auction, with proceeds going to fund grants for local cancer researchers.
Nationwide, Golfers Against Cancer has raised over $22 million to fund cancer research. On July 29th,
2012, the Denver chapter will be hosting their 4th Annual Gala at the Denver Marriott South at Park
Meadows followed by the GO Subaru Celebrity/Pro-Am Golf Tournament at Pinehurst Country Club on
July 30th to benefit Cancer Research.
Golfers Against Cancer is unique in that it sponsors research projects that are in the early stages of
development that would not normally qualify for federal funding. Our mission is to assist researchers in
advancing their project to the stage where they can receive federal grants. Our 2012 goal is to donate over
$100,000, which will be used to provide funding for research being conducted at the University of Colorado
Cancer Center (UCCC) in Aurora, CO. To date, the Denver chapter has donated over $200,000 to projects
at UCCC and we are proud to announce that those projects have received an additional $2 million in grant
money. To illustrate the power of your support, a $23,000 grant we awarded to a project allowed the
researchers to apply for and receive an additional $1,200,000 in funding from the National Cancer Institute!
We are quite proud that our first three years have provided such amazing results…and it just goes to show
that every $25 or $50 contribution can make a huge difference.
Funding for research grants will be raised through corporate sponsorships, individual tickets sales and the
live and silent auctions held during the events. In order to make this event a success, we are asking local
businesses for their support by sponsoring a table, purchasing individual tickets to the dinner, donating
items or participating in the golf tournament. Please see the enclosed information for details on the various
sponsorship levels. Contributions aside from the annual dinner, auction and golf tournament are also
welcome. All donations are tax-deductible and 100% of the proceeds from your sponsorship will go
directly towards research grants. Our tax-id number is 76-0574871.
