The money will go toward the first phase of renovation of a nearby 23,000-square-foot facility that will allow the program to relocate and begin Downtown Boxing Gym and Quicken Loans accepting youth from the wait list. FUNDRAISING The students at Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program are afforded the opportunity to gain academic success through after-school tutoring as well as learn the sport of boxing in a safe and secure environment. Many of the students compete in other states. Due to the free service that Downtown Boxing Gym provides to each student, it is often difficult for most of the students to compete in tournaments outside of Michigan for financial reasons. The 2015 Ringside World Championships is scheduled for Wednesday, August 5, 2015 through Saturday, August 8, 2015. This tournament, located in Independence, Kansas, gives both our new and experienced fighters the opportunity to fight contenders from all over the world. This is where fundraising becomes very important. We are currently running 2 fundraisers consecutively, the first being the “SPARE CHANGE” fundraiser where the children bring in spare change of all denominations to the gym that will be put into a jug. When the change reaches a certain level, the students will be rewarded with a pizza party. SO, if you have spare change that you can donate to the gym, please send it with your child because it will benefit them greatly. The second fundraiser is a scratch card. Scratch cards will be given to some students in the program to take to their friends, family and others. If your child receives a card, directions will be given. Fundraising is mandatory from every family in order for your child to benefit and participate in the activities and trips planned for the program. “It gets closer to our goal of opening by May 1 and getting some of those kids off the waiting list.” - Coach Khali PLEASE DONATE Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program is a safe haven, educational resource and after-school activity that is made free for all children ages 7 through 18.
