Community After School Program Secures Boxing Legend
Sugar Ray Leonard for kids Boxing Event
Livingston, California February 2015
The Carlos Vieira Foundation (CVF) is proud to announce that boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard will be a special
guest speaker for its 3rd Annual "Gloves Not Drugs Boxing Show". The event will take place in Livingston, CA at the
Livingston High School Gym on March 28, 2015. Doors open at 1:00 p.m. and the competition starts at 2:00 p.m.
At the event, Mr. Leonard will offer an opening announcement, watch the bouts, and then provide fans with a
photo opportunity.
Longtime CVF supporter and local company 51FIFTY Enterprises sponsored Olympic hero, six-time champion and
beloved athlete.
“Just like the legend Sugar Ray himself said, ‘Within our dreams and aspirations we find our opportunities’ we too
believe the power of providing these at-risk kids with an alternate opportunity to choose a healthy, safe path, and a
place to set their own dreams and make them reality,” says Samantha Yniguez, General Manager with 51FIFTY
Enterprises.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at the foundation's website, www.carlosvieirafoundation.org.
Background about the "Gloves Not Drugs" program and the boxing show:
The mission of the Gloves Not Drugs Boxing Program is to provide at-risk kids in Livingston, Atwater, Delhi, and
Planada a safe place to go after school and learn the sport of boxing. In partnership with the Merced County
Sheriff’s Activities League, the program is designed to keep kids off the streets, out of gangs and away from drugs.
Participants also learn about discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, responsibility, good nutrition, and are provided
with the opportunity to set their own personal goals and the resources to achieve them.
Every year, the participants get to put their talent on display alongside other kids from boxing clubs from all over
the state at the "Gloves Not Drugs" Boxing Show in Livingston. Because it's a sanctioned event, meaning the results
will go on their records, it's always a day filled with great competition.
With continued support, the Foundation and the Sheriff’s Activities League plan to expand the program opening
additional facilities in cities throughout California.
