THE TRIDENT - the Darien Sail & Power Squadron

DSPS DISTRICT 2
THE TRIDENT
Dear Members,
We successfully completed our Basic Coastal Boating/Safe Boating class in early
April. We are sending 58 safe boaters onto the waters in the upcoming boating
season. Congratulations to the new graduates. See the next page for a full list of the
graduates.
We have a very busy schedule of classes and activities before Memorial Day. After
that we focus our time enjoying the summer on the water. We started the
Seamanship class on Monday, April 20th and Sail on Wednesday, April 22nd. You
can still catch up if you contact me or Peter Adler. We are looking at recording the
classes which would allow more flexibility in our students’ schedules. Hopefully
you could watch/listen to the class if you could not attend a session. More to come
on this capability.
Our final offering of the Basic Coastal Boating/Safe Boating class will begin on
Thursday, April 30 at Noroton YC. Come refresh your safe boating skills or obtain
your CT Boating certificate. On May 2nd we have the Tilley Pond Regatta that we
are participating in with the Darien Youth Commission. This is for young children
and parents. We could always use a few more volunteers. It should be a fun time
for all in the family.
Our Spring Refresher is scheduled for Saturday, May 16th 8:30-11:30am launching
from Noroton YC. This is open to all Basic Coastal Boating participants, DSPS
members and guests. This is our 4th year and it keeps getting better. We have 5
boats and could use a few more captains. If you have a boat and would like to
participate, please send me an email at [email protected] .
On Monday, May 25 we will participate in the Darien Memorial Day parade and
the Post 53 Fair at Tilley Pond following the parade. We hope the weather in May
is sunny and warm for these activities. Sunny and warm!
The DSPS Bridge (Board) has given each graduate of the Basic Coastal Boating
course a free 6 month membership in the squadron or a 6 month extension for those
that signed up for an annual membership. We hope that these new members will
come to our classes and activities to learn more about Darien Sail & Power. We
hope you will like what you see and become a full member. By the way, it would
be fun to see some of the current members at one of our upcoming events as well.
Come join us!
