Eulogy
On March 6, 2015 our Lord and Savior laid to rest Mrs. Beryl Fahie an extraordinary,
proud, strong, hardworking, sociable, friendly, beautiful, family-oriented Woman of
God.
This earth has been blessed for 84 years to have such a wonderful individual as herself
who spread positivity and created long lasting memories in all who she encountered.
Beryl was born on January 17, 1929 on Tortola, one of the nature islands in the British
Virgin Islands to Hettie Linda Fahie and Abraham Blyden. She grew up in Hope Estate
and was the fourth child of six children.
Beryl acquired many talents from her mother to include cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting and gardening. As a young woman Beryl soon met and fell in love with a tall,
handsome fellow also from Hope Estate named Ebenezer Z. Fahie who at the time
was working between Tortola and St. Thomas. They decided to start their life together
and were wed on September 2, 1958 in Christ Church Methodist on St. Thomas. Out
of their union they had six children. In life, circumstances arise that test or highlight
our strengths and again Beryl was a mighty woman. She later moved back to Tortola
to be close to her mother to raise at that time her eldest three children, while Ebenezer
remained in St. Thomas to work and provide for his family across the water.
Eventually Mr. and Mrs. Fahie settled in St. Thomas and continued growing and raising
their family. Opportunities arise without warning and one can either rise to the occasion or allow it to pass them by. Beryl never let anything great pass her by. She started as
a janitor at the Ivanna Eudora Kean high school and one day the opportunity to cook
presented itself and you can easily guess, her talent spoke for itself. From that moment
she became the cook in the kitchen and retired several years after as such and she was
respectfully known as "Mrs. Big B" by the students and staf£ This prime example of
her life represents that it's not how you start, but how you finish.
Beryl was blessed with the gift to rub and people from near and far would travel to
her Tutu home to have bones set or fixed and their body rubbed. She was active in the
Methodist church as an Alto singer in the 11 am choir and she was also a m ember of
the Women's League. Beryl was the core of her family. She was the "go to person," the
glue, the voice of reason, the big mama, the prayer warrior. She was even monumental
in raising her grand and great-grand children. Her life was filled and was nothing short
lived. As a woman of God she has now gone home to rest peacefully with her sweet
mother Hettie Linda, smiling, awaiting the day that we will all be reunited in the Kingdom of H eaven.
