Dear Families of Beryl Ford,
Well we have made it through re-organization with much success thanks
to the exceptional team of Leaders at Beryl Ford! Staff have participated
in our Empowerment Day to continue building a positive school climate
and culture for all students to be successful.
Our entire school participated in the Terry Fox Run on September 24th.
Throughout the day we focused on the legacy of Terry Fox and the
wonderful work that he has contributed throughout Canada. Students
participated in our Annual ‘Leader in Me’ POW WOW, which was an
amazing experience for all. Students presented their class ‘Leader in Me’
Banners and their chants. On Friday, October 3rd students will witness
some of our staff having their hair cut to support cancer patients who
require wigs. Special thanks to the Terry Fox Leaders for organizing
such a worthwhile event for our students and staff.
Our Annual Fall Fair was very successful! Students, parents and staff had
an opportunity to meet with each other and share their summer stories. It
was a very enjoyable event - students participated in various activities,
arts & crafts, singing, dancing, having their hands done in henna designs,
face painting and even a food court serving BBQ burgers and hotdogs,
samosas and of course ice-cream.
As we begin this year we will be holding our first School Council
Meeting on Thursday, October 16th beginning at 7:00 pm at Beryl Ford.
It is important for parents/guardians to partner with the school to
continue developing our school for the community. We value your voice
and participation, so please join us. Please welcome our new 2014-15

EQAO Scores
Student results on EQAO assessments
are an important source of information
about student strengths and areas for
improvement. As a school
community, we use them along with
other information, to guide school
improvement initiatives. The testing
results are also used by our school
board and the Ministry of Education to
direct support where needed. Both the

Continuing Education International
Languages program for K-12 students
The opportunity to study a language in addition to English and
French can benefit all students, society in general and an
increasingly independent world. Any student who is currently
enrolled in a Peel District School Board elementary or secondary
school is eligible to attend. Classes operate each Saturday from
September 20, 2014 to June 13, 2015, except for holiday
weekends and school vacations. Continuing Education offers an online,
cashless registration process.

Peel Board Advantage Education Fair on Nov. 8
If you live in Brampton or Caledon, plan to attend the Peel Board
Advantage Education fair at Harold M. Brathwaite Secondary
School on Nov. 8. Drop by between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to learn
about our middle schools with regional programs and secondary
schools in Brampton and Caledon. Staff and students will be available to
answer questions about the schools’ academic and extracurricular programs.
The day will also include student musical performances and sport games in
the gymnasium. Snacks will be provided.
October is International Walk to School Month!
Our school is participating in International Walk to School Day on Wed.
Oct. 8th. On this day, walk, bike, blade, scooter, skip or hop to school….but
don’t drive! International Walk to School month is part of the Active & Safe
Routes to School program.

Teacher Appreciation Day
Since 1994, parents and students from around the world have celebrated
World Teacher Appreciation Day to commemorate the work of teachers and
their contributions to society. During the week of October 5, take the time to
let your child's teacher know he or she is truly appreciated. Thank your
child's teacher and let them know they are making a difference!
Help Keep Beryl Ford’s Students Safe
As members of the Beryl Ford community, we are all working together to
ensure the safety of our students. If you witness dangerous or aggressive
driving in the neighbourhood, the Peel Regional Police Service has a formal
reporting process called Road Watch. This program gives Peel Residents an
opportunity to keep the roads safe by reporting dangerous and aggressive
drivers to the police.
The report form is available at www.bramptonsafecity.ca and will need to
be faxed to 905-456-5911 or emailed to [email protected].
We encourage parents to make use of this valuable service.

Staffing Updates
Due to larger than projected enrolment at Beryl Ford PS, we have seen an increase to
our staff. We are very pleased to have welcomed the following new staff members
to our team of Teacher Leaders:

September reorganization resulted in some student placement
changes at Beryl Ford PS due to higher than anticipated enrolment
across all grade levels. Classes are now more evenly balanced
which is far more beneficial for the students and the teachers. We
thank all of our families for their support and patience during this annual process.

Elementary school is a wonderful time in the life of a child, a time of great
strides in learning and in social and emotional development. Many things
affect your child’s success, from the quality of his or hers teachers, to the

Late arrivals can disrupt the routine of the classroom.
A last-minute rush can be stressful for the child, and get her to school in the
wrong frame of mind.
Missing even 5 or 10 minutes of the day can make it harder for the students to
understand the material being taught.
Frequent absenteeism leads to gaps in a child’s skills and knowledge base,
causing the child to fall behind his/her peers and hurt his/her self-esteem.
Too many missed school days can increase isolation, as the child stands out from
his/her classmates and misses opportunities to develop socially.
Absenteeism makes it tougher for the child to develop a good rapport with the
teachers.
