Message from
Mr Captain Noel
and
Lady Captain Denise
We are honoured to be Captains of Banbridge Golf Club for the 2014
season and, as such, extend a warm welcome to all golfers – members,
friends and visitors for the coming year.
To the Team Captains and Players, who have entered the many GUI, ILGU,
Cowdy Association and similar competitions; we wish you continued
success, over the playing season. Your commitment and dedication is very
much appreciated. To all, we wish a year of good health, prosperity,
contentment and of course good golf.
We send a special thanks to all our Members and Staff who worked
tirelessly to serve the Club in various capacities, for without these efforts
our Club and facilities would not have achieved the reputation and high
standard that it enjoys today.
The assistance, support and leadership of the Vice Captain, Bill McCandless
(who is also the Greens Convenor), is very evident over the past few years
in regard to the on-going development, essential maintenance and repairs
on the course. Without his course planning and foresight, combined with
the efforts of the course construction team, we simply would have been
unable to accomplish our objectives.
We also wish to thank each of our Sponsors for their continued support and
generosity. It is this support that truly enhances the success of the golfing
season. Our Members and Visitors are encouraged to show their
appreciation by supporting these sponsors whenever possible.
We look forward to serving the Club and continuing in the tradition of
excellence that Banbridge Golf Club has achieved over the years. We hope
you accomplish at least some of your golfing ambitions in 2014, but that
above all you will have fun playing this great game.
Our thanks and very best wishes to all for the coming year.

Message from Michael Young,
Juvenile Captain 2014
I am pleased and grateful for the opportunity to be
Juvenile Captain for the upcoming season and I will work
closely with the Juvenile Committee as well as the
Captain and Lady Captain to give more opportunities to
juniors to improve and enjoy their golf.
With a host of promising young golfers I hope that this year our teams can
be successful and add to the Ava and Mahaffey Shields which were won last
year. I hope I can be a good role model for the juvenile club members and
I hope that I can encourage more juniors to take up the game and enjoy
golf at Banbridge.
Finally, I would like to wish all juveniles and fellow golfers good luck in the
upcoming season and hope all teams do well in their respective
competitions.
Regards, Michael

Blues at the Bann Review
When considering a new event for Banbridge Golf Club a night of
Blues music would not immediately come to mind. When Dougie
Stevenson suggested he was friendly with the members of ‘The
Ronnie Greer Blues Trio’ and could probably get them to come to the
Club, the Fundraising Convenor Alan McGowan took the decision to
book the Trio and the wheels were set in motion.
The Trio are known throughout Ireland, especially the lead guitarist
Ronnie who is from Dromore, Co Down and in his younger days
played a bit of golf at Banbridge. Bass was played by Gerry
Mawhinney and he proudly announced on the night that he had won
the Pepper Shield as a juvenile in the Club. John, the pianist, is in
great demand all over Ireland for his playing and has backed many
top line artists including the Sharon Corr Band.
Many members took advantage of the entertainment and booked a
table in Lee-C’s for a meal before the event and then simply kept
their seats for the rest of the evening.
The whole evening was a great success and, with a full house, there
was an atmosphere in the Club not seen for a long time. Many who
were there on the night have requested a return visit from this Trio,
so it is hoped to repeat the event early in 2015 - watch this space for
details later in the year.

Best Wishes For 2014 From Lee-C’s
Lee-C’s would like to give a big thank you to all who attended our
recent Valentine’s evening, it was a great success because of your
support.
We are looking forward to the start of the playing season, particularly
our Captain’s Drive-in on Sunday 16th March, a great kick start to the
incoming year. On that evening we will remain open until all our golfers
are in off the course. We will operate a cut down menu with all your
favourites, this should help to keep our service moving and there
shouldn’t be a long waiting time, but please remember, our food is
‘fresh food’ not ‘fast food’!
On Monday 17th March we will be open from 10.30am in order to
accommodate those playing in the competition. Our normal lunch menu
will be in operation but we also will have an Irish Stew Special to help
celebrate St Paddy’s Day.
Mothers’ Day is also just around the corner, Sunday 30th March.
Booking is advisable as this is always a popular Sunday in the Club.
Menu details are available from our staff but watch the notice boards in
the next few days.
Wishing our members, visitors and friends all the best for the coming
season.
Kerry and the staff at Lee-C’s
Thoughts from a Club Member …
As a member of Banbridge Golf Club for almost 40 years I have seen
many changes, none more than in the last few years. To see the new
greens, tees and bunkers being constructed in a very professional
manner makes me feel good to be a member of this Club.
Banbridge Golf Club has been static in my opinion for years, so it’s good
to see that a number of visionaries have taken the bull by the horns and
moved the Club to where it needs to be - one of the best courses
around. I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate all involved.
