The proshop will be closed on Mondays, but carts will be available from the 19th Hole bartender from 12pm-7pm. A Letter from the President I hope everyone had a great 4th of July at Lakeside Country Club this year. Growing up a kid at Lakeside Country Club, 4th of July has been a tradition with lots of great memories. There was beach (yes, we had a beach with actual sand) water games and races. The highlight of the day was when "Cookie Monster" would make an appearance. A life guard would row “Cookie Monster” out to the raft with the high dive and he would climb up all the way to the top of the high dive & jump off. He always acted as if he was scared and pretended he did not know how to swim. One or more of the life guards would pretend to rescue him. When he got back to shore, he passed out Chips Ahoy cookies to all the kids. The families all picnicked like they do today on the 9th fairway and the fireworks were always the best --ending with a lighted American Flag. Today we are trying to keep all the traditions the same with kids pool games on the 4th and the biggest golf tournament of the year on the weekend so you can make your memories last. I feel bad for the kids at Lakeside this year since we have no fish in the lake and, or the first time since I was a kid, we have no swim team. As President, the board and I are working hard to change this for the kids next year. The board will do its best to get fish in the lake later this year and we hope to have a swim team next year. I was not a fisherman as a kid, but I remember the swim meets and yes, they were held in the middle of the lake where the fountain is today. I don't remember how many times in a meet or in practice we ran into the wood wall of the raft, since we could not see in the lake. The opponents did not like to swim at LCC in the lake because of the stories of fish biting and crayfish snapping at their toes, which was to our advantage. Junior golf is entering it second month and Tim is doing a great job with the kids. This was also a highlight as a child. This is where we all learned the to play golf. The course looked so big and it was hard to hit a car as child. Today, as an adult, the fairways are tight and you get use to people in cars on Morrissey Ave yelling "fore" to golfers on Hole #2. Financially the club is doing fine, but in order to get more kids on the swim team, we need the members help. Please spread the word about Lakeside Country Club and we hope to grow with more family memberships. I hope everyone had a safe Fourth of July weekend at Lakeside Country Club.
