For me, April means long bright days and with the time change a long evening.
It also means Holy Week and Easter, for me, a hectic time of services and Private
Communions followed by a few days holidays, the hope of a good summer and longer
holidays to come.
But first there is Holy Week with all that it means and then the joy of Easter.
Joy is something many people don’t associate with Christianity. For all too many
Christianity, the church, are words they associate with anything but joy. The impression
they have is a negative one of kill joys, of “thou shalt not…” and unfortunately this view is
reinforced by some “Christians” not to mention the wayside posters which declare “The
wages of sin is death” and on one particularly bad corner I noticed the sign nailed to a tree
declaring, “prepare to meet thy God”.
Now both are scriptural and there is a negative element in the Bible but we should
not forget the overwhelming positive elements in it too. We see this especially in the New
Testament and in the teaching and ministry of Christ.
Indeed, when asked about the greatest commandment I expect his questioner was
expecting a negative response and I hope was pleasantly surprised when Jesus gave him,
and us, a very positive one instead of “thou shalt not” Jesus tells us, ‘you shall’... Indeed, all
the negative commandments Jesus summed up in one. “You shall love”. “A new
commandment I give you, love one another” John 13:14.
Time after time we find Jesus emphasising the positive.
Seek and you will find,
Knock and it will be opened,

The blind will see… the lame walk… the dead rise. And Easter with its message that we
serve a living Saviour and the joy that message brings is one we should celebrate and
proclaim.
May the joy and blessing of Easter be yours.
Good Friday

Ask and you will receive
For me, the loveliest Easter story is that of the two disciples on the road to
Emmaus. The journey begins with two sad, dispirited, hopeless disciples telling the
stranger who has joined them the sad story of Good Friday and saying, “we had hoped…”
But now all hope is gone for them. By the end of the journey we read of their joy and
delight, of their hearts burning within them, eager despite the hour and the dangers of the
journey back to Jerusalem to tell the others, “we have seen the Lord”.

Bovevagh Finance update
In a few weeks’ time, after the annual Easter Vestry meeting, parishioners will
receive a copy of the church’s financial position on 31st December 2014.
We are happy to report in advance that the position we are in is very
encouraging.
The loan of £45,437.85 required to complete the building of the new hall has
been reduced to £24,000. Our target is to repay this loan in full at £6,000 per
year over the next four years.

Adele Brown, Emma Halcrow, Lily Steel, Olivia Dazell,
Laura Moore, Joanne Halcrow.
These achievements, and many more, are down entirely to the generosity of a
very large number of parishioners who contribute regularly, mainly through
the Freewill Offering Scheme. We would appeal to all those people to
continue to support the work of our church at Bovevagh. We would also
appeal to those who have not contributed, to come ‘on board’.
This is your church, too. Your attendance on Sundays and, of course, your
financial support would help greatly.
The Select Vestry
Bovevagh Property Fund
At a recent meeting, the vestry decided to ask parishioners to make quarterly
gifts (instead of monthly) to the Property Fund in 2015. This is a reminder that
the first payments to this fund can be made any time within the next few
weeks. For your information, the Property Fund raised the excellent sum of
£5,925.00 in 2014.

DUNGIVEN & BOVEVAGH MOTHERS’ UNION
Heavy snow caused travel problems for our March meeting. Our speaker Mrs
Margaret Fear was unable to come and sent her apologies. 18 members braved
the cold night so after prayer and a bible reading we carried out official business
which had to be attended to. Members were glad to get home a bit earlier than
planned.
Our next meeting is on 6th April at Delma Coopers Garden Centre on the
Ballyquinn Road, Limavady. If you have any gardening questions this will be the
time to ask. Tea/coffee and a wee bun will be served.

not exactly, we hope to be having a salad tea in Maghera Parish church hall with a
