It’s a role that builds relationships and connects people to the whys of the work we do. It’s understanding the important work of all our programs and using your strategic side to connect funders to projects. We’re looking for a proactive and thorough person to join us in limiting, alleviating and ultimately eliminating poverty in Edmonton. Volunteer & Events Officer Marketing and Communications Department Job Purpose To execute outstanding events and connect engaged volunteers to meaningful opportunities. Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Volunteer & Events Officer is responsible for engaging, organizing, and training volunteers who include staff and members of the public. In addition, the Officer is the lead individual for cultivating volunteer opportunities and maintaining a robust volunteer engagement program. The Officer is also directly responsible for leading the execution of E4C events and third party events that benefit E4C. Duties and Responsibilities Volunteer Coordination Build and maintain a catalogue of existing and potential volunteer opportunities at E4C. Maintain a robust volunteer engagement program that identifies, streams, trains, and connects all types of volunteers with E4C volunteer opportunities. Lead regular volunteer orientation sessions to introduce new volunteers to the values, principles, and programs of E4C. Attend community events to recruit new volunteers from the community. Oversee volunteer correspondence and coordinate E4C volunteer intake. Liaise with agency content creators to generate stories, pictures, videos, and messaging for distribution to new and existing volunteers. Support data management by maintaining a comprehensive database that tracks volunteer contact information and previous participation in E4C volunteer events. Event Planning Actively participate in and provide support to third-party events that build profile and awareness of E4C and our volunteer opportunities. Proactively cultivate and directly support third party events that list E4C as their charity of choice. Play a key role in the execution of E4C events such program fundraisers, invitational special events, general public events, and the Celebratory Annual General Meeting. Assist in the coordination of internal events such as gatherings, retreats, and staff and volunteer recognitions. Qualifications At least three (3) years of experience with direct responsibility for volunteer coordination and event planning. Portfolio demonstrating execution of outstanding events. Track record of engaging, streaming, and training volunteers for large-scale events. Related Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Public Relations, Not-for-Profit Management or equivalent professional training/certification. Must provide a Police Information Check. Competencies Strong entrepreneurial focus with the ability to motivate, persuade, and inspire others. Ability to act intentionally, strategically, and proactively in developing outstanding events that include large numbers of volunteers. Capable of establishing effective working relationships with staff and stakeholders in a large and complex operating environment. Sensitive and responsive to personal and cultural differences in how others view partnership and participation in not-for-profit organizations. Confidence and thoroughness in developing event plans and volunteer engagement strategies. Able to uncover ways to improve volunteer recruitment and contribute to finding meaningful volunteer opportunities. Commitment to identifying and actualizing new approaches and strategies volunteer engagement and event planning. Strives to improve professional abilities and knowledge of E4C programming. Takes personal accountability to deliver the best service to all person served. Working Conditions Full time position (40 hours) during regular office hours Monday to Friday. Additional hours may be required on occasion. Must be able to work in an evolving, dynamic working environment with multiple internal and external stakeholders. Physical Requirements The work requires periods of light physical exertion associated with prolonged sitting with limited freedom of movement. Periodically handling/moving office/Agency materials and equipment. Limited to moderate degree of mental/visual effort required. Salary Scale To be negotiated.
