You are invited to the
36th Annual NC EAPA March Conference
“Surf’s Up: Navigating the Tide with EAP”
Get Stoked! This is the second year that the conference will be held in beautiful downtown
Winston-Salem. The 2015 March Conference will be Off the Hook: between the awesome
destination, the epic presentations, and the gnarly exhibitors -- you will be exposed to special
people who understand the tides that Employee Assistance Professionals navigate every day.
Each presentation is designed to help Employee Assistance Professionals sharpen their skills
and better shred the pipeline. Don’t miss this opportunity to hang ten with one another in the
Exhibitor Hall on Wednesday and Thursday.
The NCEAPA Planning Committee would like to thank each of you in advance for attending
and participating in the conference. Without the members of NC-EAPA and professionals who
attend the conference every year, there would be no annual March Conference. We have worked
hard to recruit exhibitors and select speakers that will give you the resources you need to
continue to navigate your EAP journey. We have also planned fun along the way to make your
time with us even more radical. The NC-EAPA Conference is one that you will want to make
part of your journey year after year.
Banzai!! Grab your board. We hope you enjoy the conference!

Hello My Name Is…
Mission of Hello My Name Is…
The mission is to put faces with recovery, focusing on the positive aspects present in the lives of the
people that are living in commitment to recovery. Often, recovery is shrouded in anonymity as many
of us continue to live dual lives, afraid of the social stigma associated with addiction. Others simply
cut themselves off and isolate from the world at large. I ask ~
Where is the freedom in this? When a human being is taken to the depths of darkness by addiction
and recovers, there is a light that grows. My mission with this project is to paint
the light that I see in the mirror as well as the light that I see in the people in recovery around me.
We emerge out of the shadows eager to share this new-found hope with others like us. Hello My
Name Is… offers a look at the faces of people that face their greatest fears and reunite with the world.
Why This Project:
Addiction is often filled with shame and discrimination…Even in recovery many of us still struggle
with these same issues. Having been in recovery for more than a year and a
half, I still experience difficulty at times being open and honest about it with people outside the
recovery community. If we are only as sick as our secrets ~ why is recovery my biggest
secret. How joyous, happy and free can I expect to be when harboring anything that I would not
willingly tell another person. It is my hope that through the Hello My Name is…
project that those that choose to, will find the strength and courage to step outside the rooms and
break free from the lingering social stigma of addition.
About Hello My Name Is…
If we are committed to recovery, what is it that we are
recovering? My name is Douglas Lail and I plan to use my
skills as a portrait artist to extract insight and wisdom from
the people that are living the brave and powerful experiences
that are unique to the path of recovery. I have recovered a
deep, loving relationship with my partner and our families,
a network of caring friends, the gift of gratitude, and the
opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a
full-time artist. It is through painting and collecting
stories about some amazing people that I hope to
reveal what others have recovered as well.
Share Your Recovery Story…
If you are in recovery and would like to sit for a
portrait and share what you have recovered.
Please email me at [email protected].

Movie Night
with NC
EAPA!
THE ANONYMOUS PEOPLE is a feature
documentary film about the 23.5 million
Americans living in long-term recovery from
addiction to alcohol and other drugs. Deeply
entrenched social stigma and discrimination
have kept recovery voices silent and faces hidden
for decades. The vacuum created by this silence
has been filled by sensational mass media
depictions of people in active addiction that
continue to perpetuate a lurid public fascination
with the dysfunctional side of what is a
preventable and treatable health condition. Just
like women with breast cancer, or people with
HIV/AIDS, courageous addiction recovery
advocates are starting to come out of the
shadows to tell their true stories. The moving
story of The Anonymous People is told through
the faces and voices of the leaders, volunteers,
corporate executives, and celebrities who are
laying it all on the line to save the lives of others
just like them. This passionate new public
recovery movement is fueling a changing
conversation that aims to transform public
opinion, and finally shift problematic policy
toward lasting recovery solutions.

EAS-C Certificate Training
Employee Assistance Specialist-Clinical (EAS-C) Certificate Training with Jan Price ,
LCSW, CEAP
The majority of employee assistance programs (EAPs) provide employee assistance (EA)
services via a network of mental health professionals in private practice. If you have ever
thought, “I want to do EAP work. How do I add that to my private practice?” this course is for
you! Written by a team of experts including industry-leading EAP network managers, it
provides you with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge necessary to join affiliate provider
panels and grow your private practice. Already on an EAP panel? How do you become the “goto” clinician consistently providing EAP assessment, referral, and short-term counseling
services, yielding more referrals? The insider information in this course, and the companion
EAPA-backed certificate, will give you the tools you can use to attract more EAP referrals to
your practice.
Jan Price, LCSW, CEAP following a successful career as an EA professional for Georgia
Institute of Technology, Emory University, and Delta Air Lines, joined EAPA’s staff as the
Manager of Professional Learning Resources. In this role, she works with teams of subject
matter experts from EA programs of all sizes and models to provide training opportunities for
EA professionals around the world. Jan also maintains a small private practice delivering
network affiliate services in Atlanta, GA.
What are the benefits of earning the EAS-C Certificate of Recognition?
Listing in EAPA's online EAS-C database of affiliate providers.
Recognition by EAPA that the recipient has completed role-specific foundational training
which includes:
Overview of the role within the context of EAP service delivery systems.
Differentiating the EAP role from other roles the individual may perform (i.e., EA assessment
vs. mental health assessment, etc.).
Ethical considerations specific to the role, with a focus on boundaries of competence, role
fidelity, and fiduciary responsibility.
Integration of evidence-based screening tools into EA practice to provide early identification
and brief intervention for risky behaviors associated with the most costly/deadly mental
health/substance abuse concerns in the workplace.
Verification of completion provided by the association in the form of a certificate of
recognition.
For EAP affiliate providers, network managers are encouraged to check this database first for
new additions to their networks and/or to use these providers when making clinical EAP
referrals.

Thursday Plenary Presentation
Thursday, March 19th 1:00 – 2:00 pm
Plenary Session: Generational Differences in the Workplace:
For the first time in our history, there are four generations active in the workplace. Each has
characteristics that make them unique, based on common interests, experiences and events.
These characteristics cut across race, gender and economic lines, and appear to be consistent
across industrialized countries worldwide. The ability to communicate across multiple
generations is critical and occurs through applying knowledge of the generations and an
understanding of what it takes to be effective. This is particularly important when interacting
with our fellow associates, as each of us is from a different generation, with different styles,
motivations and values.
