The recent East United VIP launch event gave potential buyers an opportunity to get a feel for the hippest new development in Toronto’s
downtown east community. Guests checked out the model suite and floorplans, which were accessed through an interactive, touchscreen table.
Partygoers sampled some of the amazing foodie options close by the condo with beer from the Distillery District, coffee from Rooster, Mexican
fare from Playa Cabana’s new restaurant Cocina Economica and Thai from Mengrai, a local neighbourhood staple. Customizable t-shirts made
on-the-spot were also a big hit.
The team at East United hopes to contribute a new asset to the youthful, dynamic east end community, while preserving its rich heritage and
quirky local culture. Designed for artists, foodies and entertainers, East United will provide residents with a colourful, multi-dimensional living
experience.

Matt Davis, co-founder of The Design Agency, said that the inspiration for the project came directly from the artistic, vivacious area itself.
“The key three points of inspiration we took were from the St. Lawrence Market district with its foodie culture, then you have the King East district,
which is obviously one of the design epicentres of Toronto, and then you also have the Distillery District with its cultural events,” Davis said.

Sebastian Mizzi, vice president of SigNature Communities, said that he and the other project leaders aimed to sustain the existing feel of the
community, while reinforcing east end pride.
“The whole inspiration was uniting the east side and being proud of where you are. I’m hoping what we’re doing here is a reflection of the future,”
Mizzi said.
The 21-storey, 279-unit building’s architecture also speaks to the authenticity of the neighbourhood. The plan is to add edgy, industrial materials
like metal and glass to an existing historical building, serving as a testament to the east end’s unique blend of modernity and conservation of the
past.

The lead architect for the project, Ralph Giannone of Giannone Petricone Associates, said that he and his team wanted the architecture to blend
into the neighbourhood while also signaling its transformation.
“The inspiration for the project was kind of layered. We came here and saw a heritage building and an edgy community and we wanted to make
something that fit in but at the same time, something new,” Giannone said.
