Executive Director’s Report
WONDERFUL AND SUCCESSFUL
FIRST ANNUAL FUNDRAISER MAY 15TH
Our fundraising dinner auction on May 15th was
a resounding success. Mayor Earling presented
the first annual “E” award to Rose Cantwell for
her leadership both as President and now as
Capital Campaign Co-Chair. Part of the award
was a portrait of her done by Mike Reagan
Reagan,, the
recent recipient of the Congressional Medal
of Honor Society’s Citizens Service Before Self
Honors award for his Fallen Heroes Project.
Project. Rose was moved by the honor
as we all were. Mike also served as a most entertaining MC and auctioneer
for the evening. The Mayor had some very supportive words about the new
senior and community center. Former Mayor Gary Haakenson led the FundA-Need portion of the program which netted over $11,000 due in no small
part to his energy, humor and style. The total gross for the evening exceeded
$27,000. Cheryl Reagan
Reagan,, co-chair of our Ways & Means Committee and her
organizing committee are to be congratulated for their hard work which had
such a wonderful result.
BEST HEALTHY LIVING FAIR YET SPONSORED BY CAREPARTNERS
Our annual health fair was held on April 24th. The Fair grossed $19,085 and
netted $16,287. We sold all of our premium sponsorships – one Platinum
($2,000), two Gold ($1,000) and seven Silver ($500) and three organizations
wanted to be the platinum sponsor. This is far and away the best we have
ever done financially. There were 66 vendors at 57.5 tables compared to 51
vendors 46.5 tables in 2014. More than 450 people attended. Fairwinds Brighton Court again provided 200 free lunches for participants. People seemed to
enjoy themselves and the vendors were happy. Thanks to everyone who came,
as the Fair continues to be successful because so many people attend.
BOEING EMPLOYEES COMMUNITY FUND GRANT
OF $50,000 FOR NEW 25 PASSENGER BUS
We have received a $50,000 grant from the Boeing Employee Community
Fund for a new 25 passenger bus. The process involved a site visit by two
ECF Board members on April 29th Bob Malone,
Malone, ECF Board President and
Alan Rice Board Trustee. The Fund remains unique in the area as giving
large amounts which enable significant capital purchases. We have begun
shopping for a bus and will make a decision by the end of June.
TULALIP TRIBES AND ROTARY DAYBREAKERS GRANTS
We have received a $3,000 annual grant from the Tulalip Tribes Charitable
Fund to support our bi-monthly bulletin. The Tribes have been a longtime
supporter of the Center. We are grateful for their generosity. We also received a $500 grant from the Rotary Daybreakers for new large screen TV
for the Lobby, which we will use to highlight our Business Members and
special events.
ANNUAL VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION DINNER
Our annual volunteer appreciation dinner was held on May 21st and was
sponsored by Chateau Pacific of Lynnwood.
Lynnwood. It was a delightful event attended
by 120 volunteers including Board members. I heard nothing but good comments about it afterwards. The full salmon dinner cooked and served by our
staff was most appreciated. The songs and keyboards of Cheri Adams were
happy and upbeat. Volunteers remain the heart of this place. The Center
doesn’t work without them. It has been my pleasure to work with many extraordinary people over the years here who really know that it is better to
give than to receive.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS

patience, and just plain love for one another.” —Erma Bombeck
At Edmonds Senior Center we are blessed with wonderful volunteers. They make a difference and help to make our outreach to
our senior vibrant. Without our volunteers, the time they dedicate, and the lives they touch, we would all be poorer.

Ever wondered what it is really like to
live in the country of Saudi Arabia?
Come learn about the country and the
culture, as seen through the eyes of a
Western woman. Although a challenging
place to live, there is much more to the
country than what you see on the news.
Tara Ethridge has lived around the world
for more than 20 years now, teaching in
Ecuador, Venezuela, Cameroon, China,
Thailand and now Saudi Arabia. She and
her husband Dale are now raising their
daughter to also be a global nomad.
Please bring a pot luck item to share

While most Americans say they would prefer to live through
the end of their lives at home, surrounded by friends and
family, the reality is the exact opposite. Studies show that
when people age 65 and older plan in advance with their
doctors they are much more satisfied about their preferences
for care through the end of their lives. Learn how your values
and beliefs can guide your personal choices regarding medical
care, how to select the best person to speak for you in the event
that you are unable to speak for yourself, what life sustaining
treatments may be offered to you at the end of life and the
pros and cons of each treatment and what forms you need to
fill out and share with your doctor to document your choices.
