Information sheet for new families

Welcome to Edmonton Suzuki Piano School!
Thank you for choosing Suzuki piano. Edmonton Suzuki Piano School (ESPS) is a parent-driven nonprofit charity that exists to enhance the experience of our children in learning, assist our teachers in
providing an excellent environment for teaching, and promoting successful learning in the Suzuki
philosophy.
Before registering with ESPS, parents and child are required to arrange 4
observations with ESPS teachers. The ESPS Administrator can let you
know which teachers are currently accepting students. You may contact
teachers nearest your area and they will provide potential lesson times for
you and your child to come and observe the program. After you have
completed observations and engaged a teacher, you’ll be provided with a
registration package. Once that’s completed, you can begin lessons.
Parents are also required to attend a parent orientation workshop. The 3-hour workshop provides an
introduction to the Suzuki philosophy, looks at the first book of repertoire that you and your child will
be learning, and provides invaluable tips on effective practising and learning strategies. The next
workshop will be held on Saturday April 18, 2015 from 9 AM to noon at Suzuki
Charter School.
Registration fees for a beginner student are $260. A yearly tuition fee of $1050
for 30-minute individual lessons is payable directly to the teacher. There are
several payment options for this fee, including monthly post-dated cheques.
Families are also asked to provide a $100 volunteer commitment cheque, which
is returned after families complete their volunteer task.
Fees cover the costs of 38 weekly individual lessons, regular group lessons,
parent orientation course, 2 recitals per year, Suzuki books and CDs,
graduation concerts, and a yearly group concert. Fees also subsidize the cost
of special events like our Fall Workshop and Spring Festival.
Please note that you will need an acoustic piano, not a digital keyboard.
