Four school authorities in Alberta were
recently involved in a two-year mixed methods
case study of technology in early grades.
Teachers used an inquiry framework to design
worthwhile and technology-rich learning tasks
supported by a research community of
practice.
Presenters will share findings and implications
for teachers and school leaders in developing
technology-enabled, inquiry-based learning
spaces for young learners.

The Learning and Technology Policy
Framework Scorecard: A Mid-Course
Review
Policy Direction Focus:
Over the course of the next year, Alberta
Education will be developing a scorecard to
report on the province’s progress in attaining
the outcomes in the Learning and Technology
Policy Framework.
Join this session to learn how others around
the world use metrics to track the journey of
policies into practice and to contribute your
ideas about the metrics and sources of
evidence that should inform the scorecard.

videoconferencing (VC) support team for a

technical state of Video Communication in
Alberta’s K-12 system.

directions for VC and discuss what’s working
well and what challenges you may be

Flexible Pathways to Success was a
two-year project that explored the impact of
technology on student learning in inclusive
learning environments. In particular, it was
interested in supporting learner differences
with regards to cognitive ability (i.e., from
cognitive disability to gifted).

accomplish, strategies used, obstacles

complex issue to meet the learning needs of all

our journey so far as we work with teachers
and students to positively transform learning

Alberta Education recently released a new
Inclusive Education Resource video series
with discussion guides. The series is called
Building a Shared Understanding for
Supporting Every Student.
Cloud-based services provide a vast array of
opportunities for student learning and efficient
administration of education. However, there
are privacy risks that need to be addressed.
How do you move an entire rural school
authority toward a student-centred approach
to learning? How do you build buy-in and
unleash the power of educators to innovate,
while managing risk and balancing
workloads?
This session will provide an overview of the
recent enhancements to the extranet,
including Google Apps sign in and enhanced
administration capabilities.
This session will focus on the two videos out
of the nine-video series that relate to
technology: Making Sense of Universal
Design for Learning and Using Assistive
Technology to Support Learning.
