Welcome to the second newsletter of the Eastbourne Football Club for 2015. The season has kicked-off for all our Senior and Junior teams except for First Kicks which will kick-off on Saturday 2nd May. Our teams look fantastic in the Clubs brand new strip and I’m sure you will have noticed our brand new front-of-jersey sponsor too - Mitre 10 MEGA Petone who signed on as a sponsor the Club for the next 3 years. We are extremely grateful to Mitre 10 MEGA Petone and our other sponsors Maxim Financial Wealth, Chris Swift Builders, winesale.co.nz, Brew’d, printing.com, Harcourts and Blue Carrot Catering for their support of the Club and encourage you to use their services/products wherever possible. Thank you also to all those that have volunteered to be a coach or manager this season. Without your support we simply could not operate. Please look to support them in any way you can. Finally good luck to all players. We hope you have an enjoyable season. Sola Freeman Chair On-Field Junior Football The Junior football started for a number of teams with a pre-season Football Festival tournament run by the parents and supporters of the Eastbourne 11th Grade. The two day tournament held at Williams Park and Wellesley College coincided with the Eastbourne Markets and was by all accounts a fantastic success. The Club received a lot of positive feedback from participating teams commenting on how well the tournament was run and the scenic location so well done to all those involved. All teams from Fun Football up officially kicked off the Junior season last weekend. Thankfully the forecast bad weather held off and all games were able to go ahead as scheduled. A reminder, First Kicks will start on Saturday May 2 at Williams Park in front of the Days Bay Pavilion. Senior Football Senior football is already 3 weeks into the season and both the Senior and Masters teams having had positive starts. The Seniors’ playing in Capital 5 are currently unbeaten after 3 games with 2 wins and 1 draw and are sitting in 3rd place only 2 points off the top of the table. The Masters playing in Masters 3 started with 2 draws but lost last weekend to current leaders Porirua City AFC and are currently sitting 7th place. Football Development Sessions – Term 2 Due to the overwhelmingly positive response from the pre-season sessions run by James Prosser the Club's Football Development Manager, the Club is pleased to announce that it will be subsidising Development Sessions in Term 2 for all Eastbourne Football Club junior members. The Club is really fortunate to have a coach of James' calibre on board for the season. Prior to taking on this role James was the Player Development Manager at the Ole Football Academy in Porirua and has played the game at a Professional Level. The cost of these hour long, weekly sessions is $80 for the term, but if you are a member of the Eastbourne Football Club they will cost $60, with $20 subsidised by the Club. These sessions are open to non-Eastbourne Football Club members as well, but at the full cost. These sessions will focus on individual technique and skill and are in addition to the weekly team training sessions. These sessions will run on Monday and Friday afternoons from 4pm until 5pm and 5.15pm until 6.15pm and will either be at Williams or Bishop Park. Please let James know at [email protected] whether you would like your child to participate in these sessions, which grade your child is in and whether a Monday or Friday works better for you. Can you please also cc [email protected] in your response. James will place the kids in suitable groups based on the response and will communicate with you regarding this initiative going forward. We wish to commence with these sessions in the week commencing 4 May so if you are able to respond by this Friday, 24 April it will be greatly appreciated. ANZAC Day This ANZAC Day marks 100 years since the start of the Gallipoli campaign. There will be no Junior games on ANZAC Day, with all games instead scheduled for Monday 27th April. We therefore encourage as many junior players and parents to commemorate ANZAC Day by attending the local ANZAC Day ceremony in the Eastbourne Village. The Eastbourne Football Club will present a wreath at the ceremony and it would be great if we could get as many Club members as possible to join the parade from Ballinger Gardens to the memorial wearing their full strip. If it is cold your child can wear a white or similar thermal or warm top under their orange top. White shorts and their orange shorts with sneakers too please. Please assemble at Ballinger Gardens from 9.30am onwards. We will be organised by the Parade Marshall, then along with other Eastbourne groups we will ‘march in time’ to arrive at the Memorial Gates for the Service at 10.00am.
