The Director and Members of the Board accept a $20,000 donation from
the John and Linda Bohlsen Family Foundation. Over the years the Bohlsen
family has been very generous to our library, donating over a quarter of a
million dollars to support programs and related purchases. The grand piano in
our gallery and the stage and lighting in our main meeting space have all been
made possible through their generous support. — Thank you John and Linda!

have some time to walk around on your own and see the World Trade
Center Memorial Plaza (note: we will not be going inside the museum).
We will then head to One World Observatory and experience three levels of
innovation and inspiration. Upon entry, you will be greeted in the Global
Welcome Center, then proceed to a pre-show program - Voices - that tells
the personal stories of the men and women who built One World Trade
Center. Next, we’ll board one of five dedicated elevators (Sky Pods) to
ascend to the 102nd floor in under 60 seconds. Immersive, floor-to-ceiling
LED technology in each cab invites guests to experience a virtual timelapse that recreates the development of New York City’s skyline from the
1600s to the present day. The Sky Pod elevators will bring you directly to
the See Forever™ Theater on the 102nd floor. The Main Observatory space
on the 100th floor will include an interactive skyline “concierge” – City
Pulse – that allows guests to connect with the landmarks and neighborhoods they observe. The Main Observatory also features the Sky Portal
where guests are invited to step onto a 14-foot wide circular disc that will
deliver an unforgettable view, using real-time, high-definition footage of
the streets below. Several eating options will be available, from quick
snacks to a sit-down meal. Cost of trip includes transportation via motor coach,

the largest pretzels known to mankind will all welcome you at Bear
Mountain. Don’t worry, you can burn off the beer and brats plus
stock up on fresh air with a gorgeous hike along one of the 50 hiking
trails in Bear Mountain State Park. Located in the Hudson Highlands
just north of New York City, Bear Mountain is home to approximately
5,000 acres of picturesque open fields, over 50 hiking trails, some
breathtaking views, and yes… a yearly Oktoberfest celebration. The
celebration brings together unspoiled nature and a hearty Germanic
festival. Some walking and climbing up an incline is necessary to
reach the Oktoberfest site at Bear Mountain; wear comfortable shoes.

business information that is either unavailable or not easy to find in one place
on the Internet including competitive intelligence, career and investment
opportunities, business rankings, and company histories. By creating a free
account and answering a few questions, patrons can use Law Depot to create
personalized legal forms for business and personal issues, and for those doing
business internationally, the Global Road Warrior provides updated
travel and professional information, high-resolution maps, and culture
reports. While our electronic resources provide valuable information, the
East Islip Library’s Business and Finance Center provides traditional
reference resources that help you do more in-depth research. Directories like
Hoovers and Dun and Bradstreet provide extensive information on national
and local companies while Value Line and S&P’s Outlook let you drill

2015 SUMMER READING CLUB
This year's summer reading club is underway but there is still plenty of time to join! Non-readers ages birth and up
can join our Read-to-Me club. Older children able to read on their own can sign up for the Independent Reader club.
Our young adult listeners are available for reporting on books from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and
Wednesday and Thursday evenings, 7 to 9 p.m. through August 14. This summer's program will conclude with a special
ventriloquist performance by PetraPuppets for those who complete the program. Children completing the reading program
will also receive a certificate and a McDonald’s coupon!
Club members can enter our contests, and our Italian ice raffles, too. Again this year, we'll be recognizing our star
readers by placing their names on display for all to see. Ask one of our volunteers about becoming a star reader when you join the program.
For further information, pick up a copy of our club flyer or give us a call. Suggestions for more summer reading fun are available at the New
York State Summer Reading Club website which can be accessed through the Kids Corner of the library home page at www.eipl.org.
Parents: This summer, give your children an advantage. Even though school is out, it's important for children to keep reading. Research shows
that students who read five or more books during summer vacation can maintain and even improve their reading skills. They can return to school in
September without the summer learning loss that may occur otherwise. Sign up today!
IMPORTANT REMINDER
For all parents and caretakers of toddlers and young children
No child under 9 years of age may be left unattended at any time, anywhere in the library. For the safety and protection of your children
please remain with them. Even in the friendly atmosphere of the Children’s Room, youngsters are at risk of harmful accidents or incidents that could
otherwise be prevented with parental supervision. Librarians and support staff cannot be responsible for overseeing individuals, and we do want your
child’s visit to the library to be a happy and rewarding experience.
PROGRAMS
Programs are one hour in length unless otherwise noted. Please arrive on time for programs. We will hold your place for 5 minutes. After that
we will seat standbys and there may no longer be room for your child to attend. If you cannot attend a program you are registered for, please notify us so
that someone on the waiting list may attend. Thank you for your consideration.
If a program states “no siblings”, please do not bring unregistered children to the class. For the full enjoyment of all participants at the class,
only registered children will be permitted to attend with their adult. Please make other arrangements for younger or older siblings.
This library is inclusion friendly. If your child needs any special accommodations in order to participate, please let us know.
FOOD ALLERGIES? We sometimes serve snacks at a program, so please notify us if your child has any food allergies.
SAY CHEESE! Your attendance at programs sponsored by the East Islip Public Library may be digitally recorded through photographs or video recordings. These images may be posted in the library, on our website, in our newsletter or by local newspapers. If you do not wish your image to be published, please notify a member of the Children’s Department before the program.
