www.eipl.org Your Library is a "Family Place" Last month, the Library was presented with a "Family Place Libraries" banner that now hangs at the front entrance to our building. We know what you are thinking, the library has always been a "family" place. Yes, it is true that hundreds of families have come in every week to use our resources, attend our programs, and check out our materials, but, "Family Place Libraries" is a national initiative and a great achievement for our library. "Family Place Libraries" is a countrywide network of public libraries that believe literacy begins at birth, and that libraries can help build strong communities by nourishing healthy families. Through this initiative, our Children's staff has received specialized training and grants to make their spaces more family friendly. So, please join us. Bring your children or your grandchildren to play in our Children's Room or to attend a program. You'll find that the library is a place where playing, singing and reading leads to families coming together, developing friendships, and building connections with one another, the library and the larger community. The EIPL makerspace was made available through the generous funding from a New York State Grant supplied by Senator Phil Boyle. What is a Makerspace? A Makerspace is a Do-It-Yourself space where people can create, invent and learn. Ours includes an All-in-One touchscreen computer with Windows 8, lots of creative software (see below), a 3D printer, and a large format printer for printing your posters and photos. Recent New York State law requires that anyone born on or after May 1, 1996 must obtain a boating license; this supersedes last year’s Suffolk County law that requires all boaters to obtain a license. Additionally, all persons operating personal watercraft (Jet Skis) must have a boating certificate and be at least 14-years -old. So come in from the cold and take this class to get it out of the way; the license earned in this class is good for both boats and Jet Skis and will last for a lifetime.
