EXPERIENCE Beaumont’s Black Gold Family of Schools INSPIRING SUCCESS GROWING WITH BEAUMONT Beaumont’s first public school can be traced back to 1902. In fact, the current Bellevue school site has been serving generations of Beaumont students since 1912-1913. As the French farming community expanded, the public school system grew along with it. This early map shows Beaumont School District #741. Beaumont’s first public school dates back over 110 years ago. Today, Beaumont is one of the fastest growing and youngest communities in the province. Working closely with families, Black Gold Regional Schools provides the best possible educational experience for students. By reconfiguring school boundaries and grades, students will not have to switch schools every year. To accommodate future growth, Black Gold Regional Schools is awaiting the arrival of École Dansereau Meadows School, a Kindergarten to Grade Nine school set to open its doors in 2014-2015. Experience what Black Gold Schools can offer your family: • Programs ranging from French Immersion and Fine Arts to Career and Technology Studies and the Beaumont Hockey Academy, just to name a few. • Inclusive classrooms with dedicated and passionate teachers. • Leading edge technology and a variety of career options, including many classes transferable for university credit. Experience why generations have entrusted Black Gold Regional Schools with their children’s education. With the last Beaumont public school being opened in September 1995, I realize how rare and exciting of an occasion this is. I look forward to welcoming the families that will be associated with École Dansereau Meadows School and to working with our community partners to develop a safe and caring learning environment for everyone.” - Susanne Stroud, Principal INSPIRING SUCCESS 5 EXPERIENCE: ÉCOLE BEAU MEADOW S Meet the Kryzanowski family Did all of your boys attend École Beau Meadow School? Yes, all of our boys attended Beau Meadow School from day one. For the past 11 years, at least one of our children has attended the school. It is like our second home. What have your experiences been like over 11 years? When it comes to teachers, I am very particular. Some of the best teachers I have ever met are from Beau Meadow School. They just excel in their jobs. You can always pop in and speak with them and get an update on your child’s progress. My youngest child is hearing impaired. Staff has been supportive and the class has a speaker system. The school has accommodated him and he loves it here. Is it true your son loves science more than recess? My son had an exceptional teacher (Mrs. Thompson). By the end of the year, he said, “Science is more fun than recess.” I remember thinking, “Wow, for an active boy that is a pretty amazing thing to say.” Is it easy to be involved in the life of the school? There are lots of volunteer opportunities. You can be on school council, too. The principal and staff really listen to the parents. They work closely with the school council and follow our recommendations on how to make the school even better. 6 SCHOOL Programs - Catholic Religious Instruction - French Immersion - French as a Second Language - Fine Arts - Pre-Kindergarten Program - Counseling and Learning Support Teacher - Inclusive Education - Library Services - Innovative teaching using leading technology - Beaumont Hockey Academy Contact Us École Beau Meadow School 4322-44 Street Beaumont, Alberta T4X 1K3 Phone: 780.929.2175 “Parents often say when you walk through our doors, it feels like home. From the moment you step inside, you notice how inviting the school is. You are greeted by smiles from students and staff. The school is full of energy. The skylights cover the school with bright, natural light and there are plants everywhere that make the school feel like home. What do your kids love most about the school? That’s an easy one. It has to be the new playground. The kids love spending time there. How does École Bellevue School compare to other elementary schools you have experienced? We have been at the school for three years and it has been amazing. We moved in from another community and we felt our kids were a bit behind in subjects like English. Thankfully the school’s support staff took the time to help my daughter get caught up. Within two months, she was reading and writing like the other students in her class. What makes École Bellevue School special? Staff not only talk to the parents they really interact with the kids. It is a fantastic school. I feel confident that the staff who has been hired are the best teachers in the area. 8 OOL Programs - Catholic Religious Instruction - French Immersion - French as a Second Language - Fine Arts - Pre-Kindergarten Program - Counseling and Learning Support Teacher - Inclusive Education - Library Services - Innovative teaching using leading technology - Beaumont Hockey Academy Contact Us École Bellevue School 5103-50 Avenue Beaumont, Alberta T4X 1K4 Phone: 780.929.8663 “At Bellevue, students and staff are encouraged to be the best they can be every day.” - Patrick Gamache-Hutchison, Principal INSPIRING SUCCESS 9 SCHOOL BOUNDARY MAP École Dansereau Meadows School - (K-8 - September 2014 and K-9 in subsequent years) will serve the neighborhoods of Dansereau Meadows, Montalet, Eaglemont Heights and residences residing along the outer ring road in Beauridge North of 52 ave. LAPOINTE S Meet the Munchrath family What do you like most about J.E. Lapointe? From the first day, the school has been welcoming and supportive. We have always felt part of the school’s extended family. What does the school offer its students? There is really something for everyone. Whether it is academics, sports, or band. My kids have done it all. J.E. Lapointe gives students so many opportunities to be involved and feel part of their school. Tell me about the athletic opportunities at the school? For this age group, there is a huge range of activities. Athletics is well promoted at J.E. Lapointe. Students can try a variety of sports, find the sport that best fits them, and then choose whether to continue playing in high school. My daughter Sarah, who has a disability, is given an opportunity to be involved, too. She is the manager of the mini-girls basekteball team. If you are willing to work hard and try hard, everyone finds a place in the athletic program and an opportunity to participate. Has the school prepared your children for high school? Absolutely. My children are ready for high school and beyond. “What I most love about our École J.E. Lapointe School is that the teachers genuinely see the uniqueness of every single student and therefore wonderful relationships grow!” - Marla Tonita, Principal 12 SCHOOL Programs - Catholic Religious Instruction - French Immersion - French as a Second Language - Fine Arts - Career and Technology Foundations - Counseling and Learning Support Teacher - Inclusive Education - Library Services - Innovative teaching using leading technology - Beaumont Hockey Academy Contact Us École J.E. INSPIRING SUCCESS 13 EXPERIENCE: ÉCOLE COLONIALE EST Meet the Scriven family What are the teachers like? How do they interact with families? The staff work closely together and the entire school feels like a team. The teachers know the kids by names and know their siblings, too. What I admire most about the teachers is that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to teaching. Each student is treated as an individual to give them the best education possible. They seek input from families and work cooperatively with parents to get the best results inside and outside of the classroom. How do teachers interact with students? Teachers challenge their students. They provide extra support when it is needed. They assign the right amount of homework for the individual student. This prevents kids from getting bored or stressed out. They provide a structure and a learning pace that prepares students for high school. Talk about the school’s athletic opportunities. Even though Beaumont is a hockey town, the school provides other athletic options for kids that don’t play hockey. My son loves track and field and basketball. Mr. Dellezay (Assistant Principal) is his basketball coach. Having an Assistant Principal be a coach is a good thing? It’s great. Here, Mr. Dellezay is teaching the kids skills, sportsmanship, and more. He is someone the kids look up to and respect. They know him more as a person than as an Assistant Principal. 14 TATES SCHOOL Programs - Catholic Religious Instruction - French Immersion - French as a Second Language - Fine Arts - Career and Technology Foundations - Counseling and Learning Support Teacher - Inclusive Education - Library Services - Innovative teaching using leading technology - Beaumont Hockey Academy Contact Us École Coloniale Estates School 37 Coloniale Way Beaumont, Alberta T4X 1M7 Phone: 780.929.5904 “I love seeing the children at the end of the day as they leave excited about the daily events and can’t wait to share. What has the experience been like for your children? Most parents will tell you that no two children are exactly alike. That’s true in our home, too. What I love about our school is that it embraces different interests. How did the school embrace your children’s interests? Three of my kids have very different interests, but each one is accepted in the school. When it comes to academics, programs are available to challenge them through accelerated projects. For artists, you can perform in drama plays and work on set designs. If athletics is your passion, you can play a variety of sports ranging from football, volleyball, and badminton. There is something for everyone. Has the school prepared your children for their future? Absolutely. My oldest is about to graduate with a science degree from the University of Alberta. My other child is enrolled in a linguistic program at Trinity Western. I really believe the accelerated English program, which counts towards university credits, gave my children an edge. And what about the school’s music program? It’s great! The school offers jazz and French band music classes during lunch. I don’t play any instruments, but I am happy my kids can learn and experience music. Would you recommend the school to other families? You will not find more dedicated teachers and staff. They really want what is best for your kids. Teachers are accessible through email or during school. Everyone goes the extra mile for you. 16 AUMONT COMPOSITE HIGH SCHOOL Programs - Catholic Religious Instruction - French Immersion - French and Spanish as Second Languages - Fine Arts - Career and Technology Studies - Counseling and Learning Support Teacher - Inclusive Education - Library Services - Innovative teaching using leading technology Contact Us École Secondaire Beaumont Composite High School 5417-43 Avenue Beaumont, Alberta T4X1K1 Phone: 780.929.6282 “I love this school because of the diversity of programs and opportunities that are available to students.” - John Mair, Principal INSPIRING SUCCESS 17 NOTES AR CONTACT OUR SCHOOLS École Beau Meadow School 4322-44 Street Beaumont, Alberta T4X 1K3 Phone: 780.929.2175 École Bellevue School 5103-50 Avenue Beaumont, Alberta T4X 1K4 Phone: 780.929.8663 École J.E.
