We are beginning the first ever Evergreen Roadrunner Spring Training reading incentive program. Be on the look out for a reading log booklet that your child will keep track of his or her number of minutes read, or read to, during the week. Your child will then turn the booklet in on Friday morning to be logged in and be given the chance to win some cool prizes. Students will be rewarded every week if they have met their individual reading goal. Kindergarten through 2nd grades= 100 minutes per week to be a “Triple A“. (130 minutes per week to be a “Major League“). 3rd and 4th grade= 130 minutes per week to be a “Triple A”. (160 minutes per week to be “Major League”). We greatly appreciate your support by encouraging students to read and/or you reading to your child. Please be sure to remind your student to fill out their log, sign your child’s log, and turn it in on Friday for the minutes to count! If you would like our staff to consider the information for student placement please return the completed Parental Input for Student Placement form by May 29th. You may pick this form up at the office and turn it in between May 22-May 29th only. Forms will not be accepted after May 29th. One of the most critical and time-consuming tasks during the next few weeks is class placement for next year. The staff at Evergreen Elementary works hard to make sure each classroom in balanced according to boy-girl ratio, academic performance, social-emotional development, special learning needs, and independent work habits. We, as professionals, feel that we keep the best interests of children always in our minds as we work for appropriate placement. You, as parents, know your children very well and you may wish to share some information about them that will help us make that decision. The Box Top Contest ends May 1st . Please send in all that you have on or before May 1st. Thank you for all your support. A special thank you goes out to all those that helped collect them! In order to have all meal charges paid off by the last day of school, after May 8th, no meal charging will be allowed. If your child is buying milk or on paid status, they must have money prepaid on their account or they will be required to bring money for their meals. Please remember, if you are pre-paying to the end of the year, be sure to include the last day they will be eating. In the past, we have had a lot of students pay off their balance, but then forget to bring money to pay for their last few meals. Negative balance letters are sent home with your child bi-weekly, indicating any balance due. If you would like to know how much money your child has prepaid on their account, you may call the school cafeteria at 347-3411, op- tion 2. They will be happy to give you the account balance. Report cards will be held for any students that have money owed on their cafeteria accounts. The Spring Scholastic Book Fair will be held at the Elementary School Cafeteria on May 21st from 8:30am-3:00pm and 5:00pm-7:30pm. Hope to see you all there! Your support will help buy new books for the library! WOODSY OWL Woodsy Owl and Rebecca Wilcox paid a surprise visit to the preschool and first grade classes for Earth Day. They reminded us how important Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot are in helping us keep the earth a healthy place to live. Preschool is going buggy! Look out! Walking in their classroom you may find lots of little critters besides the ones seating at their tables. Our preschoolers are learning all about insects. There is definitely a natural love and curiosity there for insects. They are reading books to learn about insects and doing lots of craftivities to show what they learn in a fun way. We’re working hard on our numbers and all our Ready for Kindergarten skills. We want to give a shout out to Grandma Sharon for coming into our classrooms every week and reading us stories. It’s such a treat to have her! Great job filling out your Read Aloud Reading Logs, too, preschoolers. We are so proud of you!
