FET CERTIFICATE: HAIRDRESSING - NQF 4
SAQA ID 65729
PART TIME – 3 YEARS
MID-YEAR INTAKE
inVOGUE Hair Academy is a fully-equipped salon in Douglas Road, Vincent and is the only training institution in East
London offering an accredited hairdressing programme. inVOGUE is also the only Seta-accredited Trade Test Centre in
East London. The Academy was launched at the beginning of 2011, and since then all promising hairdressers no longer
need to travel to other centres to become qualified.
Why study at inVOGUE Hair Academy?
The focus is on integrating theory with practical learning in our stunning hairdressing salon in Douglas Road. You’ll enjoy
salon days where you practice what you’ve learned – first with model heads (mannequins) and later with real clients.
You’ll cut, style, colour, relax and perm all under the guidance of experienced facilitators and industry experts.
Furthermore, you’ll benefit from exposure to external professionals and product suppliers.
What career opportunities are there in Hairdressing?
After completing the qualifications, you can follow any of the following careers:
•
Hairdressing Salon Management
•
Hair Salon Practitioner
•
Hair Stylist
•
Hairdresser Consultant and Advisor
•
Image Advisor
How do I become a Hairdresser?
The road to becoming a fully qualified hairdresser will take three years. You can start earning an income immediately.
Each year will cover one NQF level. You will attend classes for one day a week and work at a registered salon for the rest
of the week. After 3 years, qualify by taking the trade test.
When do I take the trade test?
To qualify as a professional hairdresser, you must complete a trade test. This happens once (and sometimes twice) a
year. It is conducted by the Services SETA/QCTO at our very own approved trade test centre at inVOGUE Hair Salon.
Trade test assessors are assigned to evaluate the incumbent hairdresser who will perform a number of hair activities in
order to qualify. You will need a certain number of hours/years’ experience and training in order to qualify to take this
test. The inVOGUE Hair Academy programme prepares you for this, and you have the opportunity to gain real-life
experience so that you will be confident when that day arrives.
Admission Requirements:
Although the Academy recommends that you complete grade 12 to be admitted to the programme, the minimum entry
requirement is Grade 10. An admission interview with the Head of inVOGUE Academy is required on application.
