News from the Ken Jervis Kia
Puppy Love
This might sound like a bit of a shaggy dog story, but it seems as though half the staff at Ken Jervis Kia have a new member of the
family all of a sudden. It䳓s not the patter of tiny feet, more the patter of tiny paws...
It might sound barking mad, but we䳓ve noticed that there have been lots of new dogs amongst the staff this year. Everybody loves
a picture of a dog, so we thought you would like a peep at some of the pampered pooches belonging to the Ken Jervis Kia family.
It was Marketing Administrator, Julie Birks
who first noticed that all the Ken Jervis Kia
team were quickly adding doggie additions to
their families. Here she is in the showroom
with Charlie, a Jack Russell/Staffordshire Bull
Terrier cross. Charlie is a rescue dog who was
severely under nourished and in poor health
when Julie took her in. Poor Charlie had been
living on Pot Noodles and crisps, but under
Julie䳓s care she has put on 2kgs in weight and
her coat is now in great condition again.
Pictured here is Bailey, who belongs to
Service Receptionist, Joss. This is a cross
between a Jack Russell and Shih Tzu. We䳓ll
leave you to work out how Joss refers to
that particular mix! Suffice to say it䳓s a
shortened version of a Jack Shih Tzu...
This timid little fellow is Alf, the King Charles
Spaniel belonging to Service Manager, Andy
Southwick. We can䳓t imagine why he looks
so worried 䳍 despite what the lads in the
workshop might tell you, Andy is a softie at
heart!
Sarah from our Sales Team continues the
Shih Tzu cross theme, with Belle, a cross
between a Highland Terrier and Shih Tzu. No
doubt this will become a Highland Shih Tzu.
No wonder Martin Banks is always on the
go. You might have noticed him around Ken
Jervis Kia. He䳓s always picking somebody
up, moving the cars or delivering a car to a
Customer. Well, know you know why. The
only chance he gets to sit down is when he䳓s
in a Kia, because his THREE dogs, Dotty,
Buster and Titch have taken over his sofa in
his house!
Service Receptionist, Kelly Hatton has a new
miniature poodle puppy, Molly. From the
look of this picture, Molly could be the most
pampered pooch in the Ken Jervis Kia team.
Ian Clewes from the Sales Team has 2 collies,
Bob and Marley. There䳓s clearly a reggae
theme going on here, which may give some
clues as to Ian䳓s musical tastes. You may
have seen the film about a dog called Marley
and Me. In Ian䳓s case the film would be called
Bob, Marley and Me, which makes our Ian
sound like one of The Wailers!

After Sales Manager, Chris Rhodes completes
our canine collection with his Bulldog Bruce.
Not only is Bruce the unofficial Mascot for
Chris䳓s Rugby team, Stoke Rhinos (which
is why he䳓s wearing a Rugby shirt), but
apparently he also won a beauty contest.
That䳓s Bruce, of course, not Chris. This also
disproves the theory that dogs look like their
owners. There䳓s no way Chris would win a
beauty contest 䳍 and anyway, Bruce looks
so much more cheerful than Chris. Chris is
hoping to pair Bruce with one of the Ken
Jervis Shih Tzu, to produce a Bull Shih Tzu.
And finally, with all the new puppies around
the place, Garry䳓s having kittens. It䳓s not that
he doesn䳓t like dogs, but he has bucked the
trend and now has 2 little kittens called Tom
and Jerry. Didn䳓t those two spend all day
chasing each other around the house? Yes,
could be very appropriate for 2 kittens.

In addition to our Pink Day, we䳓re also
delighted to support local charities The
Donna Louise Trust and Douglas Macmillan.
We䳓re giving 500 to each charity based
on a donation from each car we have sold
this year. Ken Jervis Kia, Managing Director,
David Norwood said, 䳖These charities do an
incredible job in our community and it is a
constant battle to raise funds. I䳓m glad we
can play a small part in helping them.䳗
Marathon Man Mark
Ken Jervis Kia䳓s Parts Advisor, Mark Smith,
is back in training after injuring his leg.
Which is just as well because he will be
running in next year䳓s London Marathon!
The 26.2 mile course will be a big
challenge for Mark, because although he
is a successful League runner, it䳓s quite a
big step up in the distance he is used to
covering. Mark said, 䳖I normally run about
10K, but now I am back in training I will
be running a couple of half marathons in
preparation, then gradually building up to
the full 26 miles.䳗
We would all like to wish him the very
best of luck, and we䳓ll give you an update
of how he got on in our next issue of
DriveTimes.

Ken Jervis Kia Pink Day 䳍
Friday October 25th
Last month saw Ken Jervis Kia䳓s now traditional Wear it Pink day, in which staff and
customers wear something Pink to raise money for Breast Cancer charities.
Money was raised by Ken Jervis Kia giving 5 to all customers who visited the dealership
wearing something Pink. The Service Reception crew & Sales Team had already
contacted all the customers with appointments that day letting them know about the
fund raiser, so a big thank you to all who took part.
There were also cakes sold and a draw to guess how many balloons were packed into
a Kia Picanto in the showroom. The Charity 䳖swear box䳗 also raised a significant sum 䳍
mostly from the management team!
We also raised over 1,000 to be split
between the Special Baby Care Unit and
Cheathams Children䳓s Ward at UHNS. The
money was raised at a Charity fun night
attended by many of our customers and
friends, so a big thank you again to all who
took part. This donation was especially
poignant for our Sales Manager, Sean
Cosgrove, as the incredible team at UHNS
helped to care for his son when he was
unwell earlier in the year. Sean is pictured
with the rest of the Ken Jervis management
team presenting a cheque to Steve Rushton,
Charity Fund Raiser at UNHS.
Special thanks must also go to Ken Jervis Kia customers Robert Crockard and
Mrs Dagmar Rubin for their generous donations. Not only were they terrific charitable
gestures, but we䳓ll never forget Mr Crockard䳓s Pink boxer shorts!

Meet the latest member
of our family
We would like to introduce you to the latest member of
the Ken Jervis Kia family. He is James Ashworth who has
joined as a trainee member of the sales team working
with Mike Buckley.
18 year old James is a local lad originally from Brown Edge
but now living in Burslem. He studied Physical Education
at Stoke-on-Trent 6th Form College, and is the brother of
Sarah, also a member of our sales team.
Good Luck James from the rest of the team, and we hope

Update on new Kia Carens
The all-new Kia Carens compact MPV has been
awarded a maximum five-star safety rating by
Europe䳓s leading road safety organisation, Euro
NCAP.

The Carens achieved high scores for Adult Occupant
Protection (94per cent), Child Occupant Protection
(76per cent), Safety Assist equipment (81per cent)
and Pedestrian protection (64per cent) and is one
of only two compact MPV models to earn five-stars
in the 2013 Euro NCAP tests.
䳖From the beginning of the new Carens䳓
development programme, Kia engineers were
dedicated to creating a compact MPV with the very
best structure and safety technology to protect
drivers, their families and pedestrians in the event
of an accident,䳗 commented Benny Oeyen, Vice
President Marketing and Product Planning, Kia
Motors Europe.
Standard safety equipment fitted to the new Kia
Carens includes six airbags (front, front side and
curtain), seatbelt reminders for all occupants, ESC
(Electronic Stability Control), HAC (Hill-start Assist
Control) to prevent roll-back and ESS (Emergency
Stop Signaling) which flashes the brake lights to
alert other motorists when the driver is making an
emergency stop.
The new Kia Carens joins six other Kia models cee䳓d, Rio, Venga, Soul, Sportage and Sorento - in
scoring a five-star rating in Euro NCAP crash test
results.

The Kia Carens line-up has been extended to
include the top spec 䳒3 Sat Nav䳓 model which has
been introduced from September and is now
available for customers to order at Ken Jervis Kia.
Based on the high spec 䳒3䳓 model with leather
seats, dual zone climate control, full length
panoramic sunroof and safety features such as
Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) all fitted as
standard. The top spec 䳒3 Sat Nav䳓 is available with
the 1.7 CRDi: 134bhp engine, mated to a 6-speed
manual transmission. It comes equipped with a
seven-inch touchscreen satellite navigation system
with European mapping and Traffic Management
Channel (TMC) a handy feature that alerts the
driver to heavy traffic ahead and then adjusts the
route accordingly ensuring that the driver and
passengers have a less stressful journey.
Also added to the model is an upgraded audio
system that benefits from seven-speakers which
also includes an eight-channel external amplifier
and sub-woofer so that all seven occupants get
great sound on their journey. AUX, USB and iPod
connectivity are also fitted as standard in the
Carens.

Carens crowned
The Carens 䳒3 Sat Nav䳓 is priced from 24,845 OTR
with the metallic paint option charged at 495 and
is available now at Ken Jervis Kia.
Kia Carens was crowned by an established
panel of judges that make up the association
of Scottish Motoring Writers. Alisdair Suttie,
President of the Association of Scottish
Motoring Writers said: 䳖Practicality doesn䳓t have
to be boring and our 2013 MPV of the Year
proves this beyond doubt. As the latest in a long
line of Scottish Car of the Year category winners
from Kia, the Carens offers loads of room and
comfort in a car that is fun to drive and easy on
the wallet.䳗

The Carens range starts from 17,895 and
is available with three engines: a 133 bhp 1.6

Although the new Soul is 䳒all-new䳓 - none of the exterior body panels are carried over, and the interior is
a new design - the 2014 Soul䳓s bears all the hallmark design elements which will ensure the new model
is instantly recognisable as a Soul. Kia䳓s signature grille is also present, though reworked to more closely
resemble the concept and bring it in line with other models in the product line-up.
䳖The Soul has attracted a loyal following among Kia buyers, so it was important that the all-new model
remained true to the original iconic design. Beyond design, our main focus was infusing it with improved
driving dynamics, developing a higher-quality cabin and adding desirable features that improve the Soul䳓s
appeal, value and sophistication,䳗 commented Benny Oeyen, Vice President Marketing and Product Planning,
Kia Motors Europe.
The biggest technical change for the new 2014 Soul is the adoption of an all-new platform, based on that of
the latest Kia cee䳓d. In addition, the new model is slightly bigger with a stronger bodyshell, which together
with suspension upgrades, has enabled Kia engineers to create a car with significantly improved driving
dynamics, ride quality and greater refinement. The new dimensions also allowed improvements to the
vehicle䳓s practicality. The tailgate opening is now 60 mm wider, providing easier access to a larger cargo
area, which has had its capacity increased by 4 per cent to 354 litres (plus additional underfloor storage)
with the rear seats upright.
Buyers will be able to choose between the latest versions of Kia䳓s 1.6-litre GDi petrol and CRDi diesel
engines, as well as six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions. Driver and passengers in the
new Soul will enjoy a significantly quieter cabin, with higher quality materials throughout, and greater sound
proofing compared to the outgoing Soul.
The 2014 Soul will be available with a range of new premium features (depending on model), including:
front LED lights and rear LED 䳒halo䳓 lights; xenon headlights; keyless entry and push-button engine start;
automatic climate control air-conditioning; cruise control; leather seat trim; ventilated front seats; heated
front and rear seats; panoramic glass sunroof; and heated exterior mirrors. An optional Infinity sound
system - tuned specifically for the new Soul - will also be available.
The new Kia Soul will be equipped with a number of safety and convenience features to further give the
new model a 䳒big car䳓 feel. These features include High Beam Assist - a first for Kia in Europe - Parallel
Parking Assist System and a Lane Departure Warning System.
Sean Cosgrove, Sales Manager at Ken Jervis Kia is pleased that the new Soul still gives owners the
chance to personalise their car. 䳖The new Soul will also carry over the outgoing model䳓s reputation for
customization,䳗 he said. 䳖When the car goes on sale early next year, you will be able to choose between
up to 11 exterior paint finishes, as well as three different roof colours - black, white and red. Eight
different alloy wheel designs - ranging from 16-inch to 18-inch in size - will be available, including four
new designs with coloured inserts to contrast - or match - the body colour. Come and see us to find out
