Problem Statement
Ensuring we both possess and can find “Fit for Purpose”
test data, in support of good testing, is difficult.
However without this capability we are exposed to low
productivity and rework.
Test Data Challenges Include:
Understanding & Mining for test data is complex
• Rarely is data in one place (many apps, many DBs)
• Architectures and Data Sources are typically diverse
Cross platform searches are time consuming
• Fulfilment often dependent on many Application/DB SMEs
• Mining can be difficult, hard to synchronize or repeat
Too few test environments cause data contention
• Contention increases corruption & Data Related Defects
• Contention causes an agile fall (execution being blocked)
Data Issues impact overall testing productivity
• Less Productivity means weaker exercising of solutions
• Lack of agility results in costly delays to your projects
Storage Spend
Global industry surveys have
identified that up to 40% of
organisations total testing cost is
directly attributed to Test Data and
Environment related activities.
Managing the organisations test data is non-Trivial
• Difficult to track/identify data requirements or data usage
• Difficult to understand test case and test data relationships

DataView – The Face to your Test Data
What is DataView?
DataView sits above your existing TDM Investment (ETL & Fabrication).
DataView is a tool to promote DevTester productivity through the use
of Test Data Accessibility & Governance mechanisms. Key features
include “self service” test data mining and test data booking
management. Tool also has a central portal for Data Orchestration and
collaboration.
What is DataView DataHotSpot?
DataHotSpot is an admin function within DataView. It is used to
reverse engineer your test data layer (thus promoting transparency),
automatically identifying where “sensitive data” (PII data) resides and
then validating whether test data has been appropriately privatized
and is compliant.
Combined with DataView, DataHotSpot allows you to extend your existing Test
Data Management model (typically ETL/Fabrication focused) and ensure that data
is better understood, engineering is accelerated, customer risk is reduced and
DevTest productivity is increased through self service.

Select E2E data that will make your DevTesters most productive
Create “aggregated” views that show E2E data and relationships
3. Have DevTesters proactively “self service” that test data
•
•
Have DevTesters filter and/or mine their own test data
Have DevTesters book/reserve data for “safe” testing
4. Use embedded mechanisms to better manage the data
