DATA S H E E T Entuity Quality of Service Module The Entuity Quality of Service (QoS) module places QoS details within the context of network device availability and performance, thus reducing QoS administration and improving troubleshooting and mean time to repair. The module also provides a detailed inventory of your QoS configuration as well as realtime monitoring of the performance of each interface. Highlights Automatically discovers critical configuration details and presents them in the context of overall network performance Provides control over resources, with visibility into the current and historic utilization of resources, such as bandwidth and devices Managing QoS Using Entuity Entuity QoS is a full SNMP integration using QoS configuration information and its associated performance and availability statistics are accessible through: the Cisco-Class-Based-QOS-MIB. Entuity QoS discovers interfaces that support the MIB, collecting configuration, availability and performance data. Entuity understands the possibly recursive structure of QoS implementations where, for example, a policy can include a class map which in turn can include policy and class maps. Entuity presents these interrelations under the relevant policy map on the device’s port. WebUI, where the latest polled configuration and statistical data is presented, but you can also use graph and change history tools to view trends over the past 28 days Reporting tools, for example a new QoS Port report and custom reports using drag and drop Report Builder Enables efficiency of network resource usage through greater visibility into what your network is used for Allows delivery of services through close monitoring of the traffic flows that are most important to your business QoS graph showing real-time pre and post policy traffic utilization 1 entuity.com DATA S H E E T Entuity Quality of Service Module Traffic Identification through Access Groups Through access lists devices can classify packets by physical port, source or destination IP address, application port, IP Protocol type, MAC address and so on. Entuity displays access lists: Ordering them in the same sequence as they are configured, and therefore the same order as they are applied Pre-and post-policy traffic performance statistics Traffic Management through Class Maps Classification and admission control are typically performed at the network edge, ensuring traffic conforms to the internal network policy. Packets can be marked with special flags (colors), which are used inside the network for QoS management. For each class, Entuity displays traffic management configuration and pre- and post- policy performance statistics. Using Entuity’s Business Views you can monitor the traffic policing configuration on interfaces at the edge of your network. Typically conforming traffic is transmitted and traffic that exceeds is sent with a decreased priority or dropped. Through Entuity providing detailed QoS configuration information and extensive statistics on port performance, you can amend the configuration to meet changing network requirements. Managing Congestion through Queues Queue management is an important congestion tool, for example for avoiding tail drops, where high priority packets are dropped before they are added to a router’s queue, and so identified. Entuity details both queue configuration and current performance, for example current queue depth and number of discarded packets. You can check queues associated with high priority classes are assigned greater resources, reducing the probability of losing high priority packets, than those associated with lower priority classes. Managing Policy Maps Policy maps are applied to the interface as service policies. Each interface has a maximum of two service policies, one for inbound traffic, one for outbound. Entuity details the classes associated with the policy map. QoS Traffic Policing Traffic policing allows you to control the maximum rate of traffic sent or received on an interface, and to partition a network into multiple priority levels or Classes of Service (CoS). QoS configuration associated to a Port 2 entuity.com DATA S H E E T Entuity Quality of Service Module Managing Congestion Avoidance Cisco IOS QoS allows Class-Based Weighted Fair Queuing Configuration (CBWFQ) with Weighted Random Early Detection (WRED). Entuity allows you to appropriately modify congestion management through displaying class configuration and its performance, for example: Whether explicit congestion notification is enabled for the class, precedence thresholds for the service profiles Performance statistics such as number of transmited packets, tail dropped packets, random packets. QoS Port Details Report shows pre and post policy rates Managing Packet Marking Managing QoS Traffic Shaping Packet marking allows partition of your network Traffic shaping attempts to control the into multiple priority levels or CoS, by either: Marking packets by setting either the IP precedence bits or IP differentiated services code point (DSCP) in the Type of Service (ToS) byte. Packets are classified by this value and receive appropriate differentiated QoS service. Associating a QoS group value with a packet. This allows users to associate a group ID with a packet, which can be used to classify packets into QoS groups based on prefix, autonomous system, and community string. Entuity QoS identif ies the packet marking method applied on the parent class map and displays its conf iguration details. 3 volume of traffic sent into a network, and the rate at which the traffic is sent. Entuity QoS can show the separated traffic flows and the individual shaping of each, indicating where the current configuration can be improved to better manage the current traffic. QoS Warning Events Warning events can be generated on top of existing threshold information configured via the Threshold Settings dialog in the client. These events cover QoS class characteristics of bit rate, bit drop rate and packet drop rate resulting from buffer shor tages. The four th event allows high queue drop bit rates to be flagged as events as well. DATA S H E E T Entuity Quality of Service Module Reporting on QoS Entuity QoS Module Availability Entuity QoS integrates with Entuity’s The Entuity QoS Module is a separately licensed existing repor ting tools. A new QoS Por ts repor t allows monitoring of por t pre- and post-policy per formance. It provides a summary of QoS inter face and policy per formance, sor ted by average bit rate. Panels for each por t: module for existing installations of Entuity. Entuity is available on the Windows Server 2008 (R2 and SP2) and Windows Server 2012, 64-bit; Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Linux, 64-bit; Microsoft Hyper-V Server, and VMware ESX/ESXi Server. Graph pre-policy traffic rate/class per formance Summary Graph post-policy traffic rate/class per formance network device availability and performance, the Entuity QoS module reduces QoS administration and improves troubleshooting and mean time to repair. It provides a detailed inventory of your QoS configuration, together with monitoring in realtime of each interface’s performance. The Entuity QoS module allows: Tabulate pre- and post-policy per formance statistics. Entuity QoS information is available to Flex Reports, allowing you to report on, for example: The busiest classes, graphing their traffic profiles to examine the highs, lows and general pattern of traffic flow through different classes QoS configuration, showing the association of device to port to policy map and finally through to class map By illuminating QoS details within the context of Monitoring of QoS configuration, availability and performance Retention of polled readings for both interactive exploration and reporting purposes Viewing of QoS information within the context of the managed network generating warning events when threshold settings are reached Traffic flow, allowing improved responsiveness to changes in traffic characteristics CPU utilization of QoS enabled devices to identify potential service problems caused by hardware performance issues ABOUT ENTUITY Entuity takes the work out of network management.
