(DIGITAL) MARKETING & EVENTS CO-FOUNDER
KHULA IS AN UP AND COMING BAG LABEL THAT PROVIDES SOUTH AFRICA’S ARTISTS WITH
A CANVAS ON WHICH TO PRESENT THEIR WORK AND SHARE THEIR VIEWS ON THE STATE
OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN NATION AND THE PSYCHE OF ITS PEOPLE. AND WE’RE LOOKING
FOR A PASSIONATE CO-FOUNDER TO HEAD UP OUR (DIGITAL) MARKETING AND EVENTS.
Meaning “growth”, the name Khula embodies the vision behind the brand – to facilitate
the growth of the artists involved by showcasing their work to the mainstream market
and allowing broader society to experience and engage with it.
Artworks are translated into high-quality bags and the range as a whole presents a collectable
portfolio of stylistically unique paintings, photographs, graffiti, and illustrations that are
printed onto the bags.
The bags are ethically produced in South Africa and a percentage of the sale of each bag
goes directly to the artist.

HEAD OF (DIGITAL) MARKETING
Digital marketing: Building and developing digital marketing strategy | Coordinating
content across social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and
blogging sites | Developing and managing content for our website and blog | Monitoring
and evaluating the success and impact of online and social media platforms with regard
to its intended purpose
Marketing events: Co-developing Khula pop-up stores concept | Setting up Khula pop-up stores |
Organizing Khula exhibitions and art performances
QUALITIES
A background in Communications / Branding / Event management
Excellent written and communication skills in English
Knowledgeable on Adobe InDesign and other related software
Very creative
Highly detail oriented
Knowledgeable on social media ethics and practices
Excellent organizing skills
Affinity with pop-up store concept development and set-up
LOCATION
Based in, or willing to move to, Cape Town or Johannesburg (head office), South Africa.
CO-FOUNDER PROFILE
The ideal co-founder has either started their own business before, or has working experience with
digital marketing and marketing events in a corporate in the fashion industry and is now ready to
take the plunge and become independent. The co-founder has an existing and strong online
presence. You’ll be running the business together with the founder. The co-founder must be
passionate about Khula’s social mission and about building an innovative international brand.
There will be a trial period to assess the ‘fit’ with the company. Any equity share shall occur
on an earn-out basis.

About the founder: Khula brings to life the creative vision of Moniek van Erven, a social entrepreneur from
Netherlands (MSc in Finance) who finds herself living in Johannesburg, the cultural epicentre of South Africa.
Moniek was immediately attracted to the city and its entrepreneurial vibe – a place where everything seems
possible. It was here in the CBD of Johannesburg that she met a couple of artists. Their works carried
a strong message about South African society, expertly expressed however their voices didn’t reach far.
The idea for Khula came from a desire to share and showcase the city’s artists and their visual commentary
on the social or political consciousness of a country still trying to reconcile the past with the present,
across a broader audience.
