The Basics in Appliances
Still Your Best Bet
What if your refrigerator gave today’s weather report each time you opened
the door? Or, your range printed directions to the nearest movie theater?
Innovative? Yes. Smart. No.
Technology for the sake of technology isn’t always a good thing. Just like
bigger isn’t always better. More than anything, you want your refrigerator
to keep your food and beverages at the right temperature, and to keep them
fresh for as long as possible. You want your oven to provide a great cooking
experience and food that tastes good. You want both to look great in your
kitchen – to look as if they fit within the lifestyle you have chosen.
I have been the midwest / midsouth distributor for Sub-Zero appliances
for nearly 25 years, and for Wolf appliances the last seven. During that time the company has been as
innovative as much as anybody. But the innovation has been to make what is, even better. For
example, the new line of Sub-Zero’s now being introduced won’t look all that much different to the
average consumer than they ever have. But inside, behind the interior shell, is a new air filter that
kills bacteria and eliminates gases that deteriorate fresh fruits and vegetables. A water purification
filter has been added so that the water you get from the dispenser is as fresh as water can be. And
now the crisper and deli drawers are two to three degrees cooler than the rest of the refrigerator – at
precisely the right temperature these foods like best.
While it seems like I’ve heard it a million times, I am still amazed at how many people – when
talking about refrigeration – call out Sub-Zero by name, and now Wolf as well. And even more
interesting, how many owners say words that are nearly 100% identical to our marketing themes:
Sub-Zero keeps fresh foods, fresher longer. It is because they see it. If 10 days after buying a fresh
head of lettuce it still looks fresh in the crisper drawer, then seeing is believing.
How much should the best in kitchen appliances cost? More than ever, you do get what you pay for.
But, interestingly, the cost of a Sub-Zero / Wolf / ASKO kitchen is not very distant from other
competitors top-line brands.
Whether you are building a new home, or remodeling your existing kitchen, you can now purchase
one of our appliance packages for around $15,000. For details, please see the list of dealers in this
issue of Fantastic Kitchens magazine.
If you happen to be in the Cincinnati marketplace, please plan to visit our
manufacturer showroom. Here we display every Sub-Zero, Wolf, ASKO, Faber and
Scotsman appliance made. We are proud to show it off, and to answer your
questions – with absolutely no obligation.
Thank you for letting us share your time. It is appreciated.

The Story Behind the Kitchen?
“We lost our last house to a fire. It was a total loss and
the last couple of years have been especially hectic

chance to cook and unwind in our own home.”

Designer’s Thoughts
“The sleek overall design is highlighted
by the choice of unique and quite
beautiful materials including afromosia
wood from Africa for the cabinetry, teak
wood and marble from Pakistan for the

Venice on the backsplash, and custommade concrete for the countertops. Each
one makes this kitchen special.” – Donna Rosenthal

Freshness Above All
Sub-Zero Introduces
all New Built-In Series
The art of kitchen design meets the science of food preservation in the new
Sub-Zero built-in series. Beneath a refined exterior, advanced technologies work
together to create something more than just a refrigerator. It is a comprehensive
food preservation system, guarding the freshness and wholesomeness of food and
water like nothing before.
Air Purification
Crisper Crisper
Purer Purification
Lots More
Our new exclusive and patented Air
Purification System continuously
scrubs odors, ethylene gas, and other
contaminants such as bacteria, mold
and viruses. Air is completely
refreshed every 20 minutes. The
system even removes odors and
gasses naturally emitted by some
foods (apples, for instance) that
cause over-ripening and hasten the
spoilage of other foods.
Thanks to the innovative redesign
of the evaporator portion of the
refrigerator, the crisper and deli
drawers form a special lowtemperature zone that stays two to
three degrees cooler than the rest
of the refrigerator. This enables
vegetables, fruits and meats to be
stored at precisely the temperature
these foods like best, just above
32 degrees.
Advanced Water Filtration removes
not only suspended particles but also
chemical pollutants, viruses, and
bacteria. And unlike systems that
leave water with a flat, sterile flavor,
the Sub-Zero system preserves the
refreshing, clean taste of water as
nature intended it. With our pushand-release feature, you can quickly
change the filter with one hand.
■ Freshness Cards that keep storage
tips and use and care information
always at hand.
SubZeroFresh.com
■ The Redesigned Control Panel that
puts more information and greater
control at your fingertips with
touch-sensing technology.
■ A new “max ice” command
produces 40% more ice for a party.
■ A Flip-Up Grille provides easy
access for quick routine
maintenance. Vacuum out the
condenser or change the water
filter with ease.
■ Door Shelves adjust at one-inch
increments for increased customization. The new design creates
more usable interior space too.
■ Advanced Hinges are lower profile
than before, creating a new cabinet
customization option: flush inset
for a more integrated look.

Our Priorities for the Kitchen
“We wanted a kitchen large and inviting enough for everyone to join in with
the cooking. The large Wolf range was a must. It had the professional quality,
size and features that we wanted. Everything else worked from there.”
The Most Fun in the Kitchen?
“Pizza parties with our daughter and her friends. There’s room around the
island for everyone. Everybody joins in making their own. You set the ovens
to the highest temperature which is 500-degrees, then put the fan on. The
pizza stone goes in the oven to heat up. It cooks pizzas just like a pizzeria.
And you can do loads at the same time. It’s wonderful.”

Designer’s Thoughts
“Larry is a culinary trained chef and a very big cook. He wanted professional
standard appliances, loads of countertop, loads of functionality. Everything
was designed around the enormous range. It was a challenge to ensure the
range didn’t overwhelm the kitchen. I think we did it.” – Connie McAlister,

INTEGRATING THE SUB-ZERO REFRIGERATOR/FREEZER
into the cabinetry by using a matching stained, glazed and
distressed overlay panel means that the appliance blends
discreetly into the overall look of the kitchen. “It gives

Frequently Asked
Questions About Sub-Zero
Question: It’s one thing to have a great looking refrigerator. But I
want it to function in the best way possible by helping me keep
foods fresher longer and reducing wastes. How does a Sub-Zero fit
my requirements?
Answer: Sub-Zero is the most recognizable high-end appliance brand in the United States. Outside, our
styles are legendary so we’ll always look best in your kitchen. Inside, we continue to deliver technology
second to none, including our top-rated refrigeration systems – one to regulate the freezer, one to regulate
the refrigerator. And in our newest models, our crisper / deli drawers keep their contents 2-3 degrees lower.
This enables vegetables, fruits and meats to be stored at precisely the temperature these foods like best, just
above 32 degrees.
Summary: A Sub-Zero keeps fresh foods fresher longer, up to twice as long as competitive products. So while other
Americans waste an average of $728 year in spoiled food – or 21 million grocery bags worth if you put it all
together, Sub-Zero owners can be happy knowing that this is one statistic they won’t be a part of.
Question: Don’t refrigerators use a lot of
energy? How can I save on energy costs?
Answer: Do what Dad always said: Keep the door closed when not using – plan, don’t browse. But for those
who don’t want to follow some of the best advice ever, and even for those who do, we advise the purchase of
a Sub-Zero. Our selections include Energy Star rated appliances, packed with the newest in energy saving
technology, insulation, and two refrigeration systems which mean the most efficient use of cold air. Even our
largest unit can operate on pennies per day, or less power than a 100-watt light bulb. Now that’s savings!

the moist air in the dishwasher is mixed with dry air from outside, and
the machine dries completely.
