A cow, brown indeed, has
got an admit card issued by
authorities on her name to
write a professional entrance
examination next week here
and former Jammu and
Kashmir chief minister Omar
Abdullah is keen on seeing
her appear in the paper.
In a strange turn of events,
the admit card for the
entrance examination for
Diploma in Polytechnic was
issued by Board of
Professional Entrance
Examinations (BOPEE) in
the name of Kachir Gaaw
(Brown Cow) who is
supposedly daughter of Gura
Dand (Red Bull).
The cow was allotted a seat
at Government Degree
College, Bemina, for writing
the examination scheduled to
be held on May 10.
The incident came to light
after opposition National
Conference spokesman
Junaid Azim Mattu uploaded
a copy of the admit card on
social networking site
twitter.com.

Professional Entrance
Examinations issued this rollnumber slip to a cow after
due verification.
I have both the Provisional

India relaxes border
trade norms with China
NEW DELHI, MAY 02:
Ahead of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi's visit to China,
India today relaxed the border
trade by raising the transaction
value of consignments between
the two countries.
"For border trade between
India and China, the CIF (Cost,
Insurance and Freight) value
per consignment is being
increased from Rs 1,00,000 to
Rs 2,00,000 in case of Nathula,
while for Gunji and Namgaya
Shipkila, the existing CIF value
limit of Rs 25,000 is being
enhanced to Rs 1,00,000," the
Directorate General of Foreign
Trade said in a notification.

has no plans to engage with
the Kashmiri separatists,
according to senior BJP

Democratic Party, its

He also warned that any tampering with holy dates of

Kashmir Himalayas should be restricted to 30 days.

Zeshtha Ashtami falling on

thousands of yatries are likely to participate from Jammu
as well as from across the

free bus services for the
Yatries as per past practices
for to and fro journey to
Khir Bhawani Temple in

active in subversive activities and have been waving

sense of insecurity amongst

BSNL faces protest
for poor services
Jammu: The activists of National Secular Forum (NSF)
today held strong demonstration in Campus against the
BSNL for its poor mobile/ internet services in the Jammu
city. The protesting NSF activists raised slogans against the
Chief General Manager (CGM). They asked the BSNL
authorities to improve the mobile and internet services.NSF
General Secretary Narinder Singh led the protesters. He categorically asked the BSNL CGM not to test the patience of
Jammu people. He said, "The mobile services of BSNL
have touched a new low. Sometimes it is poor connectivity
that harasses the mobile users and sometime it is the misconnectivity that irritates people."Stressing on the issue,
Singh mentioned that students of Jammu University in particular are suffering lot because of poor network of BSNL
.Even though there has been increase in the bill payments;
there is no improvement in the services provided by BSNL,
a government of India undertaking. Singh further mentioned that most of the rural areas are uncovered by BSNL

Shivalik Brigade, under the aegis of
Tiger Division organized a Medical
Camp at Chuwadhi Area as part of their
Human Assistance Programme today.

Rajiv Gadihoke Commander, Shivalik

unconditional and constant support of

A medical team comprising of two
doctors provided the much needed specialized medical cover to the women,
children and elderly people during the

Yatra is declared open for the
season after the snow melt
enroute on the auspicious day
of Jyeshtha Purnima and
Chhari Pujan is performed
on Shravan Purnima (i.e.,
after about two months)
every year at the Holy Cave,"
the VHP statement said,
adding,
"There is no restriction in
Hindu religion on performing
pilgrimage during any time
of the year. History is quite
clear about performance of
Holy pilgrimage by Hindu
devotees throughout the
year."
"It is worth mentioning
here that when preparations
to handle rush of pilgrims to
Kashmir
have
begun,
Pakistan tried to poke its
nose over return of Kashmiri
Hindus to Kashmir; and in
continuation, Geelani has
chosen to speak the same
words to pursue Pakistan's
nefarious agenda," the statement said, and added,
"Demographic change, that
Geelani is referring to, infact
had happened in Kashmir
with exodus of Kashmir
Hindus from valley a quarter
of century ago in 1989, and is
required to be corrected; and
no Geelani or his likes shall
be allowed to interfere in this

The VHP is of firm view
that Geelani and his separatist aides try to fuel controversies every time before the
start of summer Yatra rush in
order to create a sense of discomfort to intending Hindu
pilgrims; and thus request
State Government to take
appropriate legal measures to
ensure that promoters of anti
national agenda are not able
to disrupt the pilgrimage, the

need of science and scientific temperament in the present time
among students, teachers and hence the common masses.
Dr. Ashiq Hussain said that NCSC is targeted to spread the
concept of the method of science among the children through their
project activities adopting the principle of 'Learning through doing
'across India since 1993 but we are far behind in this mega event
as compared to other states of India. He said that this program is
catalyzed and supported by National Council for Science and
Technological Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science
and Technology, Govt. of India and is implemented by different
Govt. and non government organizations across India.
During the programme about 60 teachers and 90 students drawn
from different schools of District Kishtwar were given first hand
orientation of the focal theme for the 2015, Understanding
Weather and Climate with six different sub-themes. Later on some
ex-child scientists who had represented District Kishtwar at State
and National Level during NCSC - 2014 were facilitated by the
dignitaries present on the occasion.

Katra: As a sequel to checking drive against traffic
violations, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Reasi
under the supervision of ARTO Reasi-Rajesh Gupta
today conducted intensive checking of vehicles on
Katra-Reasi road.
About 10 vehicles were challaned for various offences
under the relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. A
tractor was seized at Naun Devian, besides five mobiles
and tape recorders were also seized. The tape recorders
were on the spot destroyed by the officials of MVD.
During the drive, ARTO informed the people about
their duties while traveling and said that it was also the
prime duty of the common citizen to raise his voice
against the overloading and use of mobile phones by the
drivers at the time of driving. He also issued stern
warning to the drivers of passenger vehicle and urged
them to strictly adhere to the traffic rules to avoid any
action from the department. He advised the transporters
to appoint the drivers for their vehicles after his proper

Many governments, fearful of this lack of control,
are trying hard to restore or fortify barriers to
trace, block, target and censor those who offer an
alternative view or champion the truth. While
checks and balances are required to ensure equity
and avoid misuse, it is important to be vigilant
about media freedom.
Clearly, even among the current media clutter,
there are voices and views that never reach us or
find space. However, the good news is that new
technologies and tools are facilitating free speech
and information flows across physical frontiers or
national boundaries. They are enabling
participation and also throwing up hitherto
unheard voices and unseen images-beyond the
barriers created by politics, commerce and vested
interests.
But serious thought is given one finds the
journalism is under threat from itself. Our
Constitution that gives citizens the fundamental
right to freedom of speech and expression has
been and continues to be stretched to levels its
founding fathers possibly didn't plan for. The case
of a Delhi schoolteacher, who, following a fake
sting operation by a TV channel that reported she
was forcing students into prostitution, endured a
public beating, social stigma and 10 days in jail,
may have been forgotten in the age of short
attention spans. But the damage to this innocent
schoolteacher and her family's reputation, leave
aside the internal scars, could be permanent. The
proliferation of social media has brought a new
dimension to this problem. The huge number of
online trolls could, at one level, be seen as an
expression of anger by people who largely choose
to abuse anonymously. Face to face, no sane
person would dare to speak what many trolls
tweet. Some of this abusive behaviour has been
adopted by fairly well-known faces.
All this is done behind the Constitutional shield
called free speech. But neither traditional media
like print and TV or new media like internet, social
media and their convergence, have unfettered
freedom. In many judgments High Courts and
Supreme Court, the protection of free speech
under Article 19(1)(a) has been almost
immediately followed by the phrase of
"reasonable restriction" in the subsequent Article
19(2).
"This freedom is not absolute and unlimited at all
times and under all circumstances but is subject
to the restrictions contained in Article 19(2)," said
justices AN Sen, ES Venkataramiah and RB Misra
in an October 1985 judgement. "Unrestricted
freedom of speech and expression which includes
the freedom of the press and is wholly free from
restraints, amounts to uncontrolled licence which
would lead to disorder and anarchy," the
judgement ''Express Newspapers Pvt. Ltd. and

"The freedom of the media is not absolute," said

person or an institution amounts to defamation.
This falls under the 'reasonable restrictions' clause
under Article 19(2) as well as Section 499 under
the Indian Penal Code. Remember, there is a
'media' in the term 'social media'.
A reasonable restriction is different from
reasonable criticism. Critiquing government policy,
a politician's statements, a company's actions and
so on based on and backed by facts is reasonable
criticism and must be encouraged in any
democracy, and certainly India's --- it's indeed our
job and for which we get the protection of Article
19(1)(a). But damaging reputations of citizens,
companies, governments, legislative bodies and
the judiciary, do not form part of free speech. The
'reasonable restriction' clause will come to life, we
will have to deal with and be sensitive to Article
19(2).
Right to free speech and expression is a
fundamental right that must be protected. But it
can't be an unfettered right --- it not an absolute
right anywhere in the world. Reporters and
editors in general and citizens on social media in
particular would do well to engage with and
understand the idea of the expression 'reasonable

I tend to believe that Mr Modi
was right for the simple reason
that his decision added
unpredictability to India's
diplomatic discourse and
recognised the emerging
dynamics of the region where
perhaps India could end up
more isolated.
Pragmatic analysis shows that
Pakistan's geo-strategic location
is its greatest asset. A key player
in the New Great Game in
Central Asia and peripheral
areas,
Pakistan
is
internationally crucial for three
aspects of any modern strategic
relationships -- accessibility to
the ocean, energy conduits and
ideology.
Being the realist that our prime
minister is, he is bound to
appreciate this. It is better to be
engaged, even peripherally,
than find yourself outside the
ambit
of
international
dynamics which are hurtling at
speeds faster than can be
responded to.
Mr Modi has lost nothing by
making this engagement and
can progressively decrease or
increase his outreach. With
China it will need to be
strongly registered that the
infrastructure built in GilgitBaltistan and Pakistan
occupied Kashmir infringes
upon what is considered as our
territory.This is the second
time such liberty is being taken
with territories which are
Indian but under Pakistani and

we need to be clear that
Pakistan is not going to allow
access to India to take benefit
of the emerging New Silk
Route connecting China with
Europe. There is no option but
to aggressively pursue the
Chahbahar route for access to
Central Asia and perhaps band
wagon on the New Silk Route
too. For this, we need Iran
more than ever before.Lastly,
Pakistan may feel emboldened
to give an upswing to the proxy
war in Jammu and Kashmir,
having secured a better
international consensus on its
own strategic importance.
The situation in J&K is
undergoing progressive change
with terrorism at a low ebb.
Recent events such as the
raising of Pakistani flags by
separatists is an attempt to win
some psychological space and
more of this can be expected as
we go into the summer.
Pakistan should remain warned
that pushing India on this issue
will be dangerous. In fact our
diplomacy
must
now
sufficiently sensitise the
international community on the
dangers of a resurgent Pakistan
and any of its actions targeting
J&K.

When it comes to sheer hypocrisy
and double standards, it is hard to
beat the Sangh Parivar. It
strenuously claimed the legacy of
Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, a
principal author of India's
Constitution, and a Dalit, on his
124th birth anniversary.
This was motivated by nothing
nobler than the coming election in
Bihar, where a Dalit (former stopgap chief minister Jitan Ram
Manjhi) has emerged as the
Bharatiya Janata Party's potential
ally against Messrs Nitish Kumar
and Lalu Prasad.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak
Sangh tried to usurp Dr Ambedkar
as one of its own icons not just by
highlighting his differences with
the Congress, but by likening him
to its own founder Dr K B
Hedgewar who opposed the values
of equality that Dr Ambedkar stood
and fought for all his life!
The RSS further added a
communal angle to this when it
asked why India's highest civilian
honour, the Bharat Ratna, was
conferred on Dr Ambedkar 10
years after it was given to Mother
Teresa. This takes forward RSS
chief
Mohan
Bhagwat's
tendentious charge that Mother
Teresa used charitable activities as
a cover for religious conversion.
The Indian government had no
choice but to give Mother Teresa
the Bharat Ratna after she was
awarded the Nobel Prize in 1979.
As for honouring Dr Ambedkar,
there was stiff resistance from the
Maratha lobby (then in the
Congress, but which the BJP-Shiv
Sena is trying to cultivate through
a 16 percent reservation in state
jobs). This was evident from the
decades-long delay in naming
Marathwada University after Dr
Ambedkar, which happened in
1994.
Strangely, the BJP didn't make a
big fuss when the Bharat Ratna
was bestowed on its real icon,
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, even
later than on Dr Ambedkar! The
fact is, the award -- so far given to
45 people -- has lost a good deal
of its prestige. Its recipients' list is
replete with anomalies.
What is pertinent is that the
Parivar's ideology and politics was
and remains the very opposite of
what Dr Ambedkar stood for. He
had nothing but contempt for
Hindutva, with its narrow faithbased definition of nationhood, as
opposed to his broad, expansive
idea based on equal rights and
citizenship cutting across ethnicreligious identities. He repeatedly
said 'Hindu Raj' would be 'the
greatest calamity for this country.'
Dr Ambedkar regarded scripturally
sanctioned and actually practised
Hinduism as inseparable from
Brahmanical casteism, and
incapable of reform within
Gandhi's framework, which
patronisingly yet piously saw Dalits
as Harijans (God's children).
It is no accident that Dr Ambedkar
burned the Manu Smriti. He
converted to Buddhism after
declaring: 'I was born a Hindu, I
had no choice. But I will not die a
Hindu because I do have a choice.'
More important, Dr Ambedkar
wanted a separate electorate for
Dalits, but was blackmailed by
Gandhi's fast-unto-death into
dropping the demand via the
Poona Pact of 1932. The separate
electorate idea remains a sacrilege
for the Parivar, which champions
the myth of 'Hindu unity' as the
backbone of 'the Indian nation,'
thus denying India's diversity and
pluralism. BJP and its sister
organisations reject secularism (or
basic separation of religion from
politics and public life), which was
pivotal to Dr Ambedkar's
Constitution. They regard
secularism as a false doctrine.
Hence, the Parivar's dangerously
misleading slogan of 'pseudosecularism'!
Rejection of secularism and display
of aggressive majoritarianism now
manifests itself in increasingly
virulent ways: Banning the
slaughter of bulls, old buffaloes
and cows, and making the sale or
consumption of beef a punishable
crime (Maharashtra); attacks on
Christian churches (Delhi, Haryana
and Uttar Pradesh); and hounding
Muslims out of 'Hindu' areas
through intimidation and violence.
Hate speech is fast becoming 'the
new normal.' It is bad enough that
BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj makes
hysterical statements about
Muslims having '40 children from
four wives' and gets away. It is
even worse when Sanjay Raut, the
editor of the Shiv Sena newspaper
Saamna, demands that Muslims be
deprived of the right to vote
because they are used as 'vote
banks.'
Besides falling foul of the hate
speech clauses of criminal law, this
is a flagrant attack on the
Constitution and the fundamental
right of universal franchise which it
guarantees. Raut is a Rajya Sabha
MP, who made a pledge to defend
the Constitution. It is simply not
open to him to make such
obnoxious and inflammatory
statements. He must be
reprimanded by the Rajya Sabha
chairman and asked to apologise,
failing which he must be punished.
India has been far too indulgent
towards communal excesses by
important functionaries. It took the
Election Commission as many as
13 years to declare the late Bal
Thackeray guilty of seeking votes
for a Shiv Sena nominee in the
name of religion during a 1986 byelection. Eventually, he was barred
under the Representation of the
People Act from contesting
elections or voting for six years.
During the last Lok Sabha election,
Narendra Modi repeatedly invoked
Lord Ram in his campaign speech
at Faizabad in May. A model of the
BJP-proposed Ram Mandir formed
the backdrop of the stage from
which he addressed the meeting.
Former
chief
election
commissioner S Y Qureshi, no less,
questioned
the
Election
Commission's 'silence' and asked
why it had not initiated action
against the meeting's organiser.
Logically, it should have acted
against Modi too.
No such action was taken. No
wonder a culture of impunity has
come to prevail among communal
politicians who know they can get
away with the worst kinds of antiminority atrocities.
The
greatest
long-term
beneficiaries of such failures are
the forces of right-wing
intolerance. Bal Thackeray may
not have been able to drive many
non-Maharashtrians out of
Bombay or put the Shiv Sena in
power on its own in Maharashtra.
But he succeeded in inflicting
grave damage upon the Left and
trade union movements, shifting
the entire political discourse to the
far right.
Similarly, a Sanjay Raut won't be
able to disenfranchise Muslims, but
he has already shifted the political
terrain to the right, making it more
favourable to the BJP and antiConstitutional forces.
There is no point merely noting
this danger or bemoaning it. It
must be actively combated by all
those who are committed to
secular democracy and a humane
society.

option on Facebook to support
local relief efforts. In two days,
more than half a million people
donated and raised more than $10
million to support the

effort," a status posted by
Facebook founder and chief
executive officer (CEO) Mark
Zuckerberg said. "Facebook will
donate an additional $2 million to
local recovery efforts to help
those in affected areas."The
popular social media platform
had also activated a safety feature
where more than seven million
people in Nepal have been
marked as safe.The Facebook
CEO has also stated that it is
inspiring to see communities

Hindustan Times had
quoted Kumar who claimed
that he spoke to a “jittery”
Dawood three times in
June 1994. “I spoke to a

in June 1994… He seemed
to be toying with the idea
of surrendering but had
one worry — his rival gangs
could finish him off if he
returned to India. I told
him his safety would be the
responsibility of the CBI,”
Kumar told Hindustan
Times. Kumar was leading
the CBI probe into the 1993
Mumbai serial blasts, which
claimed 27 lives and
injured over 700 others,
and was later appointed as

commissioner until his

Public information, grievance redressal, electronic
service delivery, citizens’ engagement, waste to
energy & fuel, waste to compost, 100% treatment of
waste water, smart meters & management,
monitoring water quality, renewable source of
energy, efficient energy and green building, smart
parking, intelligent traffic management system.
What's the next step?
The next step is identification of the 100 cities and
for this a city challenge competition to be conducted

Smart Cities Council India has been formed
It is part of the US-based Smart Cities Council,
which is a consortium of smart city practitioners and

All states will get at least one smart city
A Special Purpose Vehicle will be created for each
city to implement Smart City action plan. The SPV
will be signed with the urban local body, state
government and the Centre for implementation of
the project.
How it will work
After government announces the guidelines, states
will be asked to nominate names of cities for a ‘City
Challenge Competition’and the chosen ones will get
Central fund of Rs 100 crore each year for 5 years.
The basic criteria for selection of a city/municipal
area
Area-based development
1. Retrofitting 500 acres: Planning in an existing
built-up area in a municipal ward, preparing plan
with citizen participation (example: Connaught
Place in Delhi, Bhendi Bazar in Mumbai).
2. Greenfield 250 acres: Introduce smart solutions in
a vacant area using innovative planning (example:
land pooling/land reconstitution in Outer Delhi,
GIFT city in Gujarat).
3. Redevelopement 50 acres: Replacement of
existing built-up area and preparing a new layout
plan with enhanced infrastructure by way of mixed
land use (example: Kidwai Nagar in Delhi).

Minister for Agriculture,
Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura
today visited various areas of
Chrar-e-Sharief Constituency
including Bonan, Kotibal and
Chauntinar villages and took
stock
of
the
several
developmental works under
execution in these areas.
The Minister directed the
Geology and Mining (G&M)
department to conduct survey of
Chauntinar area and prepare
detailed report about cause of
landslides and soil erosion in
the area and submit the same to
the concerned quarters at an
earliest so that the necessary
measures are taken for its
prevention.
The Minister was informed
that the residential houses of 43
families were affected by the
landslides and soil erosions in
the Chauntinar village.
The Minister also inspected
PHC, Haproo Batpora and Sub
District Hospital Dalipora
Nagam and took stock of the
facilities available for patients
there. He interacted with the
patients and enquired about the
facilities being provided to the
patients in these hospitals. He
directed the hospital authorities
to ensure all medicare facilities
and asked for maintaining
cleanliness in and around these
hospitals.

Lashing out at the state
government for its failures in
alleviating
the
mounting
problems faced by people of the
state, Peoples Democratic Front
(PDF) president and MLA
Khansahib Hakim Mohamamd
Yasin Saturday asked Chief
Minister Mufti Mohammad
Sayeed to clear his policy on
several issues.
Addressing a public rally in
Khansahib area of Budgam
district, he said, "Corruption
and
unemployment
have
become serious issues in J&K
but the government which had
made huge promises during
elections is engulfed in
controversies. Controversy after
controversy has been the
achievement of the coalition
government so far."
He said that Kashmiri Pandits
who want to return to the Valley
must be settled in their
respective areas. The PDF chief
asked Mufti sahib to come clear
on the policy of rehabilitation of
KPs.
"Mufti sahib makes one
statement in Delhi on the return
of Kashmiri Pandits, another in
Jammu and when he reaches
Kashmir, takes entirely different
position. Recently Mufti sahib
on the floor of Assembly
categorically stated that there is
no question of providing land
for separate colonies for
Kashmir Pandits. He also said
that no land has been identified.

September 2014 flood victims.
"There is dire need for
rehabilitation of the flood
affected people especially those
who have lost their livelihood,"
Hakim Yasin demanded.
While strongly condemning
the civilian killings in recent
months he reminded the
government of its promise of
zero tolerance on human rights
violations.
"It seems government's
promise within and outside the
Assembly of peace, freedom
and zero tolerance is a hoax.
Such incidents can derail peace
in the state and it is the duty of
the government to ensure that
such incidents aren't repeated,"
he added.
Hakim Yasin also urged the
government to immediately
review the new recruitment
policy. "Based on the past
experiences it has been
observed that under the new
policy political interference in
making recruitments will erode
the credibility of institutions.
The policy would in no way
help the aggrieved jobless
youth of the state but would add
to their agonies and woes at
large. This is joke with
educated unemployed youth,"
he added.

Yatra arrangements reviewed
Bandipora: To ensure adequate arrangements for Amarnathji
Yatra 2015, an officers meeting was held under the Chairmanship

BSNL on Saturday slashed
roaming tariff by up to 40 per
cent for its prepaid and postpaid
mobile connection with effect
from May 1.
The decision had been taken
in the wake of telecom tariff
order issued by TRAI, the
company said in a statement.
Roaming tariff for incoming
calls has been cut by 40 per
cent, STD by 23 per cent and 20
per cent for local calls.
Local and national SMS
tariff has been reduced by 75
per cent, the statement said.

Auto majors post strong sales growth in
April, hope for better year ahead

and Honda have begun the new fiscal on a
high note by posting robust sales in April,
riding mainly on new models.
However, Mahindra & Mahindra could
manage just 1 per cent increase in sales and
General Motors India saw its sales decline
during the month.
Maruti Suzuki India said its domestic
sales increased by 27.3 per cent during the
month to 1,00,709 units against 79,119
units in April 2014.
Sales of mini segment cars, including,
Alto and WagonR, rose 35.9 per cent to
35,403 units compared with 26,043 units in
the year-ago month, while the compact
segment sales comprising Swift, Estilo,
Ritz, Dzire rose by 8.7 per cent to 42,297
units in April this year as compared to the
same period of the previous fiscal.
Rival Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL)
sold 38,601 units last month as compared
with 35,248 units in April 2014, up 9.5 per
cent.
Commenting on sales, HMIL Senior
Vice-President (Sales and Marketing)
Rakesh Srivastava said the growth during
the month was achieved "on the strength of
strong and young product portfolio led by
12,425 units of Elite i20 and i20 Active in a
challenging market conditions especially in
the rural market."
Honda Cars India had a good run in
April, registering 14 per cent jump in its
domestic sales at 12,636 units during the
month as compared to 11,040 units in April
last year.
Utility vehicle major Mahindra &
Mahindra saw its domestic sales rise by 1
per cent to 34,467 units last month as
against 34,107 units in April last year.
"The auto industry is hopeful of a better
financial year as we see positive
sentiments on the back of various policy
and project announcements leading to

DoT extends MNP deadline by two months

An FIR has been filed against Snapdeal, its CEO Kunal Bahl
and others after Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) clamped down on the e-commerce major for online sale of
prescription drugs.
FDA Commissioner Harshadeep Kamble said Snapdeal has
been found to be selling these drugs despite its warnings and an
earlier undertaking by the company to stop such sales, while
investigations into other e-commerce giants like Flipkart and
Amazon are on to ascertain if they were also involved in similar
activities, Kamble said.
Soon after FDA orders, Navi Mumbai Police today filed an FIR
against Snapdeal and Bahl among others.
The FIR has been filed against relevant sections of the Drugs
and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954
and the Drugs and Cosmetic Rules, 1945.
Last month, FDA had raided premises of Snapdeal here
following complaints about sale of medicines, including
prescription drugs, through its website.
Kamble told reporters that FDA had ordered filing an FIR
against all concerned persons, including Bahl, other directors and
distributors of the drugs.
When contacted, a Snapdeal spokesperson said: "In this matter,
we are assisting the FDA team in this investigation and we will
continue to do so. We have already delisted the products and said
sellers and also stopped payment, in addition to providing all
information to the FDA team as required by them."
Kamble said Jasper Infotech, through Snapdeal.Com, offered
for sale, exhibited for sale Vigora Tablets 100, a drug containing
Sildenafil citrate, to be sold on prescription of a registered medical
practitioner ? specialist endocrinologist, venerologist, psychiatrist,
dermatologist.
He said Jasper Infotech through Snapdeal.Com also exhibited
and offered for sale UNWANTED-72 sold by Horizon Medicals,
Bangalore, and I-pill, sold by Giriraj Pharmacy in Gujarat's
Gandhinagar.
The offence attracts imprisonment of 3-5 years with a fine of
not less than Rs 1 lakh, he added.

Gurgaon-based no-frills carrier SpiceJet has added six more
seats in SpiceMax and introduced additional features like
complimentary meal, beverage and priority baggage handling at

"The first five rows of SpiceJet's Boeing 737s and the front row

The second exit row (which has six seats) on Boeing planes will
also be configured in a similar manner," SpiceJet said in a release.
The addition of these six seats would take the total number of
SpiceMax seats on a Boeing plane to 36 from 30 earlier, SpiceJet
said. These seats are available for an add-on fee of Rs 500 to Rs
1,000 per sector, depending on aircraft and flight duration, the
airline said.

In a mixed pattern of
trading, gold extended losses
for the second straight day and
prices fell by another Rs 160 to
Rs 27,030 per ten grams in
tandem with weak global
market, while silver rebounded
by Rs 510 to Rs 37,210 per kg
on revival of buying by
industrial units.
Traders said weakening
global trend where gold fell to
a six-week low on mounting
speculation that the Federal
Reserve is moving closer to
raising US interest rates
mainly kept pressure on gold
prices.
Gold in New York, which
normally determines price
trend on the domestic front,
fell 0.7 per cent to settle at
$1,174.50 an ounce after
touching $1,168.40, the lowest
since March 20 in Friday's
trade.
Besides, fall in demand from
jewellers and retailers at
prevailing levels fuelled the
downtrend in gold, they said.
In the national capital, gold
of 99.9 and 99.5 per cent purity
fell further by Rs 160 each to
Rs 27,030 and Rs 26,880 per
ten gram respectively. It had
plunged by Rs 285 on Friday.
Sovereign,
however,
continued to be asked at last
level of Rs 23,700 per piece of
eight gram.
On the other hand, silver
ready recovered by Rs 510 to
Rs 37,210 per kg and weeklybased delivery edged up by Rs
25 to Rs 36,540 per kg.

BoI cuts
lending rate
by 0.25 pc
New Delhi, May 2
State-owned Bank of
India today reduced the base
rate or the benchmark
lending rate by 0.25 per cent
to 9.95 per cent which will
make auto, home and other
loans cheaper.
The new rate will come
into effect from May 4.
"The Bank has decided to
reduce its Base Rate by 25
basis points to 9.95 per cent
(from existing 10.20 per
cent) w.e.f. May 4, 2015,"
the Bank of India said in a
BSE filing.
The cut in the base rate
will provide relief to
borrowers as the rates of
interest on auto, home and
other loans are linked to it.
Several other banks
including the market leader
State Bank of India (SBI)
and private sector lenders
like ICICI Bank and HDFC
Bank have cut lending rates
by 0.15 to 0.25 per cent
following RBI Governor
Raghuram Rajan's tough talk
last month.
The RBI had reduced the
policy rate by 0.5 per cent in
two tranches since January.
Referring to the
reluctance of the banks to
pass on the rate cut to the
borrowers, Rajan termed as
"nonsense" the lenders claim
that cost of fund was still
high. "The banks' marginal
cost of funding (has) fallen,
the notion that it hasn't
fallen, is nonsense; it has
fallen!" Rajan said on April
7 triggering reduction of
lending rate by borrowers.

Srinivasan forgoes 29% of CSK
shares for ex-cricketers' welfare

president N Srinivasan, who
controls 29% of the shares
of India Cements Limited,
the principal owners of
Chennai Super Kings, has
transferred his entire stake
in the IPL franchise, to a
trust -- India Cements
Cricketers Trust -- which
takes care of the interest of
former cricketers employed
with the company.
Simply put, the 29% of the
money earned by CSK will
go for the welfare of former
cricketers (only those who
are employed by India
Cements). "Creation of the
trust and transferring his
(Srinivasan's) ownership
rights to the trust is
complete. That decision is
now irreversible. CSK is not
owned by Srinivasan
anymore and BCCI has been
informed about this
change," sources said.
Srinivasan confirmed the
development to TOI on
Friday. "My background and
history is of supporting
cricket. India Cements has
supported cricket for the last
40 years," Srinivasan said.
Srinivasan and his family
are the promoters of India
Cements which holds nearly
29% stake in the company
and consequently held
nearly 29% in Chennai
Super Kings Cricket Ltd., as
CSKCL was a mirror image
of ICL in shareholding
pattern. "Now, it's the trust
which owns the 29% stake
and rest by public," sources
said.
The scheme has been
modeled on the lines of the
BCCI welfare scheme, which
was formulated by the
current ICC chairman. "You

the total earnings of CSK
goes to its shareholders,

company will be benefitted
from the 29% that I used to
