He is also currently visiting professor in the department of economics at University College London. Paul has worked and published extensively on the economics of public policy, with a particular focus on income distribution, public finances, pensions, tax, social security, education and climate change. Steph McGovern Over the past ten years Steph McGovern has reported on business and finance from around the world, from international finance summits to small business successes. Steph began her TV career after winning the title of Young Engineer for Britain, which led to work experience on Tomorrow’s World and in turn onto producing the financial news for Radio 4’s Today Programme where she covered Conrad Black’s trial and the biofuels industry from Brazil. Liz Rylatt Liz has overall responsibility for ICAEW’s financial management, its members, the UK regional operations, marketing, information technology, property and corporate services. Prior to joining ICAEW, Liz spent 19 years with the BBC where she held a number of senior finance roles before being appointed CFO for the Operations Division, covering Property Technology, HF, Marketing Communications and Audiences and Strategy. Bhevan Chandrasena Sally Jones Jay Shah Bhev is an ICAEW fellow and an Associate Member of the Institute of Corporate Treasurers. He is currently MD of HYLA Mobile EMEA (formerly eRecyclingCorps) based in Brussels, Belgium. HYLA is the world’s number one trade-in operator and redistributor of carrier-grade mobile devices – redirecting electronic waste from landfills and helping to bridge the digital divide. Sally’s main role within Tax Policy Group involves formulating Deloitte’s response to arising tax policy matters. She also has specific responsibility for client communications and media relations, working with a wide range of clients. She has worked with Sovereign Governments, including the UK and Jersey, to write feasibility studies and assessments of international best practice in the area of corporate income tax policies. Jay heads the Origination team at the Pension Insurance Corporation where he has led a number of pension insurance transactions, including £500m and £200m bulk annuity buy-ins for the Cadbury scheme and London Stock Exchange schemes respectively. Jay previously worked as actuarial adviser and Director of Corporate Finance at PwC and then as Corporate Development Director at Prudential UK. Ed Cottrell Tim Morgan Ed Cottrell is head of Investec Growth & Acquisition Finance. The team provides entrepreneurs, management teams and private equity houses with flexible and bespoke finance for UK and Irish midmarket companies, working across the capital structure from asset-based and cash flow lending, to mezzanine finance and minority equity investment. Before joining Investec, Ed worked for KPMG, and the Investment Banking division of Merrill Lynch in London. Tim is an experienced finance director with commercial and charitable expertise. Both a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Secretary, he has considerable experience as a non-executive director with several successful businesses. Tim’s main interest is working with organisations that combine financial sustainability with a clear social purpose. Tony Greenham Jon is Vice President and Lead Financial Officer of American Express’s Global Corporate Payments business in Europe. He leads a team of 25 finance professionals who provide consultative support to the Executive Vice President of the Division. Over his 14 years at American Express, Jon has held numerous positions in the UK and New York, specialising in financial planning and analysis, credit risk management, investment optimisation and pricing. Tony leads the programme of research into reforming the financial sector, aligning the interests of society and business. He is a regular commentator on banking issues, having contributed to various programmes and newspapers including BBC Today, Sky News, the Guardian and Daily Mail. Since qualifying as an ICAEW Chartered Accountant, Tony has worked as an investment banker and has been appointed director of a range of companies. Sarah Hunt Sarah founded Equity FD in 2000, following this with Equity FC in 2004, EquityChair in 2010 and EquityInterim in 2011. She has a strong interest in encouraging young people (in particular, young women) to go into business, undertaking many visits to schools and speaking at numerous events. Sarah is passionate about the ever evolving role of the FD and has been a judge for the FD’s Excellence Awards from its inauguration. John Neal John O’Mahony John is a Director within KPMG’s Financial Management Advisory team where he leads the enterprise performance management capability. John spent nine years within industry, where he held several senior roles including Finance Manager and divisional Financial Director positions for technology related aspects with global blue chip firms. Richard Porter Richard represents the ICAEW on the FEE Sustainability Policy Group. He is also PwC’s UK leader on non-financial reporting and assurance and one of the firm’s Risk Assurance Services partners in the Midlands. Richard led PwC’s assurance services in relation to the adoption of a single European currency and he is currently working with a range of clients on the emergence and rising importance of non-financial reporting. Charlotte Sweeney Charlotte is an experienced and pragmatic change agent with over 20 years’ experience leading significant change programmes in large global organisations, coaching, facilitation and training. She has created and delivered large scale Diversity, Inclusion and Wellbeing strategies for global organisations, most recently developing and implementing Nomura’s first Diversity and Inclusion Strategy whilst appointed Head of Diversity and Inclusion. Peter Williams Peter is Chairman of two online retailers – boohoo.com plc, a UK quoted company selling young fashion, and Mister Spex, selling eyewear from its base in Berlin – and also the fashion brand, Jaeger. He is also a nonexecutive director at Rightmove plc, Cineworld Group plc and Sportech plc, and is a trustee of the Design Council. During his executive career he was Chief Executive at both Selfridges plc and Alpha Airports plc. Richard Young Richard spent eight years producing magazines for and about FDs, first as editor of Financial Director, then of Real Finance. Since 2006 he’s been a freelance writer and editor, working with organisations such as Microsoft, ICAEW, CBI, EquityFD and PwC, while also writing for a clutch of business and accountancy magazines and websites. Richard also runs courses on Better Business Writing and chairs a number of conferences and web videos.
