He has developed, revised and presented training based on the Canadian Electrical Code, M421—Use of Electricity in Mines, and Workplace Electrical Safety. He is the Technical Editor of multiple CSA Group Electrical products including the Canadian Electrical Code Handbook, dating back to 1990, and the 2006 and 2009 CEC Pocket Reference. Bob is a member of the NETCO Solar PV Committee developing the training and the personnel certification and has worked on the development and technical content on the e-learning material to update the Alberta Safety Codes Officers on the changes to the 2009 Canadian Electrical Code. He is a member of the College Curriculum Advisory Committee on Electrical Apprenticeship for both the Construction and Industrial Electricians, the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I Technical Committee, and the National Electrical Code Committee for Grounding and Bonding (Article 250). Bob holds interprovincial certification as a Construction Electrician as well as an Industrial Electrician. Robert Colclough, PEC Rob has been involved with the trades for over 20 years and been part of Quality for 10 of those years. Rob has worked as a Quality Inspector, Quality Lead, worked as a Quality Representative for the Client and spent 4 years as a corporate Quality Manager for an Industrial Electrical Company. Currently Rob is conducting consulting work for various companies from development to Quality Management Systems to auditing and improvement plans as well as work for an Industrial Mechanical company as their Corporate Quality Manager. In the past, Rob has helped develop and teach the Quality Inspector and Management course at the IBEW 424. This presentation is about Developing a World Class Quality System. The presentation includes how to start your own program, improve an existing program, implement change and tracking in order to separate your company from the competition. Richard Kotowicz Richard was born in Calgary and raised in southern Alberta. He developed an early interest in electronics as a hobby and by the age of 10 years old was fixing radios and televisions. By 12 years old Richard had attained his Advanced Amateur Radio license and started the Electronics/Ham Radio Club in high school. Graduating in 1979 at age 17 he was quickly accepted as a Communications Systems Technician in the Canadian Armed Forces. After completing trades training in Borden, Ontario at CFSAOE (Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Ordinance and Engineering) Richard was posted to CFB Cold Lake, Alberta. Within a few years a trade amalgamation transformed into a Communications/Radar/Electronic Warfare/Instrumentation/Electrical Specialist on Canada’s Premier Fighter, the CF18 Hornet. In 1987 he was posted to CFB Baden-Baden, West Germany. After the Gulf War stationed back to Cold Lake where Richard continued to work for the Canadian Forces and started his own business custom building computers, installing Satellite Systems and fixing small electronics. Duties at that time were a Flight Simulation Technician maintaining and operating the CF18 Flight Simulator allowing him to attain NDT credentials through NAIT and was doing LPI and MPI inspections on pulp and paper plant shutdowns for 10 years. In 1999 he was deployed again to Aviano, Italy to support the Kosovo mission as a Radar/Electronic Warfare specialist. After 6 months returned to Canada and completed his 22 year career with the Canadian Forces and joined forces with Bombardier Aerospace NFTC program to train NATO pilots to fly. As the senior Avionics specialist on the Hawk aircraft now for 14 years, Richard continues to run his incorporated business as well, installing satellite/TV services, home security, home automation, now into its 21st year. As a member of numerous Associations (ASET, IEEE, ACM, CEDIA, COPA, AOWMA) and a ROI, maintaining currency with the rapidly changing world is a priority to him. Norm Kaiser, PEC A Journeyman electrician for 35 years, Master Electrician and PEC. Norm has been teaching at NAIT for nine years and was a former contractor leaving the business to become an instructor at NAIT. Norm loved the business but always loved the teaching component the most. Norm has been teaching the Master’s course and has done so many times. He taught the transition to the 2012 Code for all NAIT instructors, and also at the provincial instructor’s conference. Norm has also taught a 90 hour code class over six weeks to CSA from the 2012 Code Book. He is a husband of one, father of 7 and grandfather of 4. Jeff Bailey Jeff Bailey is the Chair of the Electrician Program at NAIT. The Electrician Program delivers technical training to all four periods of Electrician training. The program is also active in delivering continuing education courses such as the Masters Certification course. Jeff has been part of delivering Kevan Jess Kevan Jess is currently the Manager of Flood Recovery for the Public Safety Division technical education for the past 24 years in Alberta and also worked for of Alberta Municipal Affairs and until recently was concurrently the Chief Fire Apprenticeship & Industry Training (AIT) as a Program Development Officer. Administrator for the Province of Alberta responsible for the development and interpretation of the Alberta Fire Code. Kevan has worked for over 35 years in emergency operations, safety compliance and training in provincial and municipal government service. For the eighteen years prior to being appointed as Chief Fire Administrator in early 2009 he worked as a Fire Service Advisor for th e Fire Commissioner’s Office in Southern Alberta and as Assistant Fire Commissioner and Operations Manager for the Alberta Emergency Management Agency. Kevan currently sits on the Canadian Advisory Council – International Standards Organization, Standards Council of Canada and Underwriters Laboratories of Canada S500F Fire Alarm and Detection Systems and S500B Fire Department Equipment committees, the Provincial/Territorial Sub-Committee on Fire and Building Codes and the Standing Committee on Hazardous Materials and Activities for the National Research Council. He also serves as an Advisor to the Canadian Council of Fire Marshals and Fire Commissioners and the Alberta Fire Chiefs Association. He holds most NFPA and SCC certifications in fire and emergency services including those of Fire Inspector and Fire Investigator. Kevan has served on the Canadian Board of the National Lifeguard Service and the Provincial Boards of the Royal Life Saving Society of Canada and the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association. Kevan has been honored with the Commonwealth Recognition Badge and Service Cross of the Royal Life Saving Society, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Canadian Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal, the Alberta Emergency Services Medal and the Alberta Premier’s Award of Excellence. Kevan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Recreation Administration and a Management Development Diploma and currently registered in the Senior Executive Development Program, all at the University of Alberta. He has been a regular contributor and instructor for the Emergency Training Centre (fire etc.) at Lakeland College, Lethbridge College, Medicine Hat College and the Safety Codes Council. He has presented to classes and audiences across Canada and the northwest United States on most aspects of firefighting, fire service leadership, codes and standards development and application, public sector management, dangerous goods response, fire prevention and fire investigation. Terry Becker Terry Becker, P.Eng., Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP), IEEE Senior Member is the owner of ESPS Electrical Safety Program Solutions INC. a total solutions provider for engineering based electrical safety consulting services and products based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Terry has over 23 years’ experience as an electrical engineer working in both engineering consulting and for large industrial oil and gas corporations. Terry is a Professional Engineer in the Provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Ontario. Terry is the First past Vice-Chair of the CSA Z462 Workplace electrical safety Standard Technical Committee, and currently a Voting Member and leader of Working Group 8, Annexes. Terry is also a Voting Member of the IEEE 1584 Committee, Associate Member of the CSA Z463 Guideline for maintenance of electrical systems Technical Committee, and a member of the NFPA 70E Annexes Working Group. Terry is the visionary, creator and subject matter expert of the unique processes, and systems established at ESPS delivering Electrical Safety Programs, Electrical Safety Audits and Qualified Electrical Worker Electrical Safety Competency Validation. ESPS also provides classroom based low and high voltage arc flash and shock training for Electrical Workers and Non-Electrical Workers.
