FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
beginning of Term 2 on Wednesday 22nd April at
8.55am.
It is Friday in Jerusalem.
The smell of death is in the
air. Outside the city wall,
just north of the Damascus
Gate, in a place long
reserved for public
executions, three crosses
stand beside the road. A
crowd has gathered this
day. Not that crucifixion
was unusual. But this day is
different. An unusual man is being crucified. Up the
road comes a group of people. The soldiers know that
two of the men being crucified are the kind of
criminals that you find in any big city anywhere in the
world. That’s no big deal. But the third man, the one
from up north, the preacher from Nazareth, his case is
different. They don’t really know who he is. They
know it’s important because they sense the buzz in the
crowd. Today there were more people than usual, a
bigger crowd, noisier, rowdier, milling to and fro,
waiting for the action to begin.
Up the road comes a parade of people led by a brawny
foreigner carrying a cross. He couldn’t be the one they
were going to crucify. It turns out he was a man by the
name of Simon—Simon of Cyrene. The crowd swirls
around him and behind him is a stooped figure, a man
not quite six feet tall. Now walking, now crawling,
each step an agony to behold. He had been beaten
within an inch of his life. His back was in shreds, his
front was covered with the markings of the whip. His
face was disfigured and swollen where they had
ripped out the beard by the roots. And on his head a
crown of thorns six inches long stuck under the skin.
A shell of a man. A man already more dead than alive.
The soldiers laid the cross out on the ground and they
laid the body of Jesus on the cross. As they
adjusted his arms and legs, he let out a moan. But he
did not resist them. They did their work quickly. One
hand over here, one hand over there. Wrapping rope
around this arm and around that arm. Rope around the
legs, probably bent and partially resting on a small

UNIFORM REMINDERS - NO JEWELLERY
I have been disappointed lately to
see several students wearing
jewellery at school - particularly
necklaces. This is against the school
rules and is potentially dangerous as
necklaces could become caught or tangled while
students are playing.
A reminder that ALL students are not permitted to
wear jewellery at school. As per Faith City School
Uniform Presentation Requirements:
Girls may wear no more than one small, plain gold
or silver stud in each ear.
Boys are not permitted to wear earrings.
No jewellery may be worn except a watch. This
means no rings, bracelets, necklaces, anklets etc.
Body piercing is not permitted.
A full copy of the uniform requirements list is in
the School Office and on the School Website

WINTER UNIFORM CHANGEOVER
A reminder that all students should be in
their winter uniform at the beginning of
Term 2. For most students this means a
change from the short sleeved polo shirt into a long
sleeved skivvy (Year 7 & 8 Girls change into longsleeved white shirts) and changing from Roman
Sandals into Black School Shoes and Navy Blue
School Socks. Students may continue to wear the
old school sweatshirts until the end of the 2015
school year, but are expected to be in the New
Woollen school jerseys by the beginning of 2016
(end of phase in period for new jerseys) The
Woollen Jerseys range in price from $61.00 through
to $81.50 depending on size required. At this early
stage we do not have any second hand stock
available for this item. A full uniform pricelist can be
collected from the school office if you would like one.
SCHOOL DONATIONS & TAX
CERTIFICATES FOR THE 2014
FINANCIAL YEAR
Tax Certificates will be sent out
at the beginning of Term 2(after all the automatic payments and bill payments have been
processed for March) for all School Donations
received in the 2014 financial year (31 March
2014 - 01 April 2015.) Without parent support
via payment of the contributions towards
these activities, many of the opportunities
that we offer the children (e.g. PrEP,
Principals rewards, school trips and visiting
performers) will be unsustainable and we
may no longer be able to offer them. We do
appreciate your ongoing support of your child’s
education, through paying the School
Donations.
Please note: If you need to purchase items for your child
this will need to be done tomorrow as the school office &
uniform shop will be closed for the Term 1 holidays.
Faith City School Donations can be claimed
back from the IRD. You will need to complete
an IR526 form to do this. You can download the
appropriate form by visiting: http://

READING IN THE HOLIDAYS
Please enjoy some quality family time over these
school holidays and remember to read with your
children. Encourage senior children to read each
night. There are many long-term benefits of
continuing your child’s learning in the school
holidays. This includes reading with your children
as well as doing other activities that can benefit
their young minds. Perhaps these holidays you
might take a trip with your children to
the local library, the museum, or the
art gallery. Cooking during the holidays
can also help them learn skills such as
measuring quantities etc.
FAITH CITY SCHOOL MINI CRICKET WORLD CUP
The Mini Cricket World Cup Final was held last Thursday (26th March) The two teams
who played off for 1st and second place were; New Zealand and England. The result of
the Final Match was New Zealand (Black Caps) won by 4 Runs. Thank you to all the Parents, Caregivers and Family members who came along to support your children on the
day.
20 HOUR FAMINE - TERM 2 - FRIDAY 23rd MAY
Students from Years 6 to 8 (from Rooms 4 & 5) will be taking part in the 20
hour famine on Friday 23rd May. The famine is a fundraising and education
event, which raises funds for children living in poverty in developing countries.
Participants ask for sponsorship for doing without something for up to 40
hours. Our students will be asked to go without food from 6pm on Thursday
night (after dinner) until 2pm on Friday afternoon (20 Hrs). The global food
crisis, causing hardship and poverty has never been higher than it is at present. With this in mind our students have decided to raise funds for those children in desperate need. More information and Sponsorship Booklets will be handed out to these students
at the beginning of Term 2. Mrs Sue Little will be organising the 20hr Famine at Faith City School.
