When to Expect your Award Letter

Financial Aid 101: When to Expect your Award Letter
What exactly is an "award letter?"
A financial aid award letter (sometimes called a financial aid "package") is a document that will list all of the
types of financial aid (or "awards") you are eligible to receive from Southern New Hampshire University. The
aid listed may be provided by a combination of federal, state or institutional sources.
How are my awards determined?
The types of aid listed on your award letter are based on several things, including the information you and
your family supplied on the FAFSA and your planned enrollment.
What do I need to do to receive an award letter?
In order to receive your award letter, your "file" must be complete. That means:

You have completed the FAFSA

You have been accepted to SNHU
So when will I receive it?
We will begin sending award letters to students who have completed all of the steps outlined above in mid-to-late
March. If you haven't taken all of those steps, be sure to do so as soon as possible.
How will I be notified?
You will receive a comprehensive award packet in the mail. This packet will include additional information and
resources that will help you understand your financial aid options at SNHU.
Anything else I should know?
Most of the awards in your financial aid package will be offered to you. This means that if you don't want to
borrow a loan you were offered, for example, you don't have to. Also, know that many types of financial aid will
require you to take additional steps before you can receive funds.
Additionally, please be aware that in accordance with Southern New Hampshire University policy, we cannot
negotiate financial aid packages. However, if you or your family has an extenuating circumstance that is not
reflected on your FAFSA, please contact us.
There will be a lot of information included in your financial aid award letter—be sure to read it all carefully!
