The Integrative Pain Medicine Workshop The Integrative Pain Medicine Workshop is a two day workshop, interactive with a panel of experts and the meeting attendees working as a team to evaluate and develop a treatment approach to a live patient with low back pain.. The panel will consist of: Marla Golden, DO; Steve Wheeler, MD; Brent Anderson, PhD, PT; and Albert Ray, MD, who will also moderate the workshop. On day one, we will have a brief introductory lecture on Pain Perception, Pain Transmission, and Sensitization Leading to Chronic Pain. With that background understanding, we then will proceed with the evaluation of a live patient by the panel of experts from an integrative approach. This evaluation will include physical, mental, nutritional, and social aspects of this patient’s condition, placing in perspective an integrative view that includes all aspects of this person’s gestalt. Audience participation is encouraged in this evaluation phase. On day two, we will use the assessment from day one to focus on potential treatment approaches that would be appropriate to improve this person’s pain and ability to functionally take charge of their life again. Each panel member will be discussing what treatment approaches they would utilize from their individual perspectives, including their clinical experience as well as the latest scientific literature, to develop an integrated treatment for this patient, and include newer developments within their own area of expertise.
