WELCOME to the 28th Harford County Farm Fair Open Class
Competition. Wishing all exhibitors the best at this year's Harford
County Farm Fair.
Events and classes listed in this catalog are open to all adults and youth of any age, except
as stated in specific classes. All exhibits must be the work of the exhibitor and entered in
his or her name.
Home Arts“ Walk-in” entries are accepted at the Fair on Wednesday, July 29 – 12 noon
to 5:30 P.M., but for your convenience you may pre-enter your exhibits online at
www.farmfair.org before July 22, 2015 or by mail before July 17, 2015. (See entry form
on opposite page of this catalog). Farm and Garden Products: Premiums for Home Arts
& Farm & Garden Products are listed under each department heading. Premiums will be
given to the winning exhibitors in each class and may be picked up with exhibits on Sunday,
August 2nd from 6:00-8:00pm. No vehicles will be allowed on the fairgrounds until
7:00pm.

FARM FAIR TALENT
CONTEST - MAIN PAVILION

Preliminary Competition:
Friday, July 31 at 7:30 pm
Finals:
Saturday, Aug. 1 at 7:30 pm
Registration: Entry Form available on the
website and from [email protected].
Contestants to arrive from 5 pm to 6:30 pm
for sound-check and set up. Not more than
24 contestants will compete on Friday.
Contestants: All Ages are invited to compete.
Contestants will be divided into categories
Youth (up to 11 years of age)
Teen (12 years to 17 years)
Adult (18 years and older)
Separate judging categories for individuals
and groups. The Finals will be held on
Saturday, August 1 at 7:30 pm. Not more
than 3 contestants from each category will
compete for cash prizes and ribbons on
Saturday. Contestants will receive an entry
pass and a parking pass for the night of
competition, only. Friends and family must
purchase entry passes.

LITERARY SPELLING BEE MAIN PAVILION
SPONSORED BY HARFORD
COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY
10 years old. The contestant’s family
must belong to the Harford County
Farm Bureau or be willing to join if their
daughter is chosen. She should have a
desire to represent agriculture in Harford
County and to work with our Miss
Harford County Farm Bureau during
various events throughout the year. Each
contestant will participate in a brief
interview prior to the contest and give a
short speech onstage about her agricultural
experiences. If you have a contestant in
mind for our Little Miss Harford County
Farm Bureau Contest, please contact

Sunday, August 2 at 2:00 pm
Contestants compete for ribbons, producing
delectable delights using seasonal ingredients.
Entries are judged in the categories of hors
d’oeuvre; entree; side dish; dessert. Youth, Teen,
Adult, Amateur and Professional Categories
are offered. Contestants must describe the
ingredients, noting which are seasonal, which
are obtained locally. Ribbons to 3rd place are
awarded. Entries may be delivered between 11
am and 2 pm. Judging will begin at 2:15 pm.
Guest judges to be announced. Registration
on-line, during the Fair at the Info Tower and
from 11 a.m. on Sunday in the Main Pavilion.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
1.The contest is open to residents of
Harford County and within a 20 mile
radius surrounding the fair grounds,
8 years old and older.
2. Only one exhibit per entrant.
3. Sign-up is at the Harford County Fair
for the next year’s competition.
4. Compost entries must be received at
the University of Maryland Cooperative Extension - Harford County Office
by 4:00 pm on the 16th of May 2015.
5. Compost entries must be submitted
on or before the due date to allow
adequate time for judging.
6. Compost entries must have been
made by the entrant from farm animal
manures, yard materials, and/or
garden materials.
7.Compost entries will become the
property of the Harford County Farm
Fair following judging.
8.Winners will be posted during the
Farm Fair.
9. Compost entries may be on display
during the Farm Fair.
10. Compost entries will be judged for
completeness of composting, organic
content and amount of soil-like material.
11.The decisions of the judges are final.
12. One (1) gallon of compost is required
for each exhibit. Compost entries must
be submitted in sealed (Ziplock©
type) plastic bag and can be measured
using a gallon milk container with
the top cut off. Entry must be labeled
with the name of entrant and the

9. All entries should have been completed
within the past year, August 2014 – July
2015. An exhibit which was entered
in the Harford County Farm Fair in
previous years will not be accepted.

RULES
RED STAR merchandise award items will
be given to the winners in the yeast bread
categories.
1. The contest is open to male and female
contestants, 17 years old and up, and
youth classes 10-16 years.
2. Only one entry (pie) per entrant.
3. A previous winner of the champion
award is eligible to participate again
after a lapse of one year.
4. The pie must:
1 - be made from fresh peaches
2 - be made from “scratch” (filling and crusts)
3 - have two crusts
4 - be cooled before contest
5 - be baked in a clear glass pie plate
of your choice, but entrant is
responsible for picking up plate after
sale of pies following the contest.
5. Recipes must accompany the Pie and be
legibly written or typed.
6. McCormick & Company has been and
will continue to be a contributor in
judging as well as sponsor of some awards.
7. Pies will become property of the Harford
County Farm Fair following the judging.
8. A
ny profit from the pie sales will be donated
to Harford County Soup Kitchens.

1. Entries in classes 1 through 67 must
be entered on stiff sturdy cardboard or
sturdy paper plates and placed in plastic
bags to retain freshness until judged.
2. No box cake mixes will be allowed,
except in classes 36 and 37
3. Only ½ cake will be accepted for entry,

5. Fine Arts will provide divisions in Adult

FLOWERS AND PLANTS

Wegmans of Abingdon will sponsor a
gift certificate for the Grand Champion
exhibitors in the Plants and Flowers and
the Arrangements Classes. Kroh's Nursery
will sponsor a gift certificate for the Reserve
Champion exhibitors in the Plants and
Flowers and the Arrangements Classes. The
Master Gardeners of Harford County will
award $10 each to the Grand Champion
and Reserve Champion in the children’s
category. The Master Gardeners of
Harford County will also award $25 to the
Grand Champion and $15 to the Reserve
Champion in the Teen Scene category.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. Entries open to amateurs only.
2. Arrangement container must be labeled
on the bottom with name and address
of exhibitor.
3. Cut flower entries must have been
grown by the exhibitor. Flower, fruit,
and vegetables in arrangements must
be home grown with “The Country
Bouquet” being the only exception.
4. Cut flower specimens should be in
a clear jar or bottle; arrangements
should be in type of container
specified, weighted to support flowers
when necessary. THE HARFORD
COUNTY FARM FAIR IS NOT
RESPONSIBLE FOR CONTAINERS.
5. All potted plants must have been grown
by the exhibitor or in his/her possession
for at least three months and not
exhibited at the Harford Co. Farm Fair
in the last three years. Please do not
dig anything from the wild.
6. Tall, top heavy flowers must be entered
for display in containers weighted with
marbles or rocks.
7. All arrangements should be in lined
containers so they can be watered
during the fair.
Helpful Hints
1. Groom the potted plants – clean the
leaves, remove all dead/damaged leaves,
clean the pots.
2.Cut flower specimens: Flowers should
be blemish free. There should not be
any foliage below the water line, but
some foliage should be attached to the
stem above the water line.

This is a competition with the antique tractor to maneuver the tractor in (1) a slow
tractor race, (2) a barrel pushing contest, (3) trailer obstacle course, (4) blind folded
tractor driving competition, (5) slow reverse race, (6) fast reverse race,
(7) low gear fast race.

The Harford County Farm Fair will hold its Annual Seasonal Sensations Culinary
Competition on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. The Seasonal Sensations Culinary
Competition showcases the best of amateur and professional local chefs utilizing fresh
ingredients currently in season in Harford County.
Entries will be judged in the following categories:
Appetizer – Entrée—Side Dish—Dessert
This event is FREE and open to participants of all ages.
Entries may be hot or cold. Participants are responsible for the temperature control of entry. A single
serving is required for judging. Entries will be judged on taste, use of seasonal item, and creativity.
Seasonal items may include fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices. Meat, seafood, dairy and egg
entries are to incorporate seasonal ingredients.
